I have been going to the BCAPL Nationals every year since 1993 and have always stayed at the Riviera. For the last several years I have gotten a BIG break on the room rates based on my comp points for the amount of the light bill that I help pay. I recently called and was greeted by the worst personality I believe I have ever encountered and was told that there are no rooms available, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

So, the question I have: Has anyone stayed at the Circus Circus? I will be selecting a new place to stay and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Since the Circus is so close is it a nice place? Are there other places that you have stayed at that are close to the Riv. that are a good value or a nice place to stay.

What's up Jason!! Sorry to hear about your bad experience...I personally haven’t stayed at the Circus Circus, but Jim has stayed there for the past few years. It was ok, but nothing special as far as the rooms go. Knowing you, you won't be there too long considering you'll probably be on the crap tables. LOL :D

A friend of mine always stays at the LV Hilton every year, which is right behind the Riviera. The rooms are nice, and it still puts it in walking distance to the Riv. I heard there are some good deals at Harrah’s but not sure sicne I didn't personally check into it.

I believe the Sahara is reasonable and the rooms aren't bad. I think it's fairly close. I went into Circus Circus to check it out last time I was in Vegas and found the casino floor to be the most visually appalling and depressing I've ever seen.

Circus Circus

Hey Juan. I was looking on the website and they say that their rooms have been renovated. how much who knows. You are right about me not spending much time there. The only thing is my wife is coming and I dont want to stay in the slums. They have really good rates but rates are usually indicative of what kind of place you are staying in. 19.95 a night, and they dont leave the light on if you know what I mean. I have had some people tell me it was nice and some that said it sucked...

We go to Vegas frequently, not for pool. About 20 years ago I said to my wife that I will never go back into Circus Circus again and we haven't. It was a dump at that time, over ran with kids, noisy, dark, dingy ETC and I can only imagine that it has gotten worse.

The next time we go we are staying at Harrah's. We are getting 4 free nights and the other 3 are $27. It is rather far away.

Hilton is nice, but may be expensive.

Sahara is not bad fairly close and cheap around $40 a night go through a booking agent though i.e. Hotwire, cheap hotels,, travelocity

We stayed at the Sahara twice during APA Nationals and it does the job also. Pretty cheap during the week and of course goes up on the weekend. Its technically one block away but that block is about 1/2-1 mile. Hefty walk, short cab, and they have a super poker room with daily tourneys (100+ players) if you get knocked out early and need somethin to do. :)

I just stayed at the Hilton this past weekend and the rooms were nice. My buddy paid for the room on Saturday night it was $100 I think, during the week I would guess its cheaper.

When I got 3rd in '06 we stayed at the Best Western Mardi Gras up the road from the Riv on Paradise, again about a 1/2 mile-1 mile away. I think the rooms were cheap but and I now see why. I wouldn't stay there...unless you like being propositioned by skanks every time you go back to the room.

Go with the Hilton. It is right behind the Riviera and cheaper sodas and snacks at the quick mart across the street on the way. Saved me a bundle and I didn't mind the short walk.

Circus Circus

I haven't had any bad experiences at the Circus Circus and I'm staying there again this year. I'm not there much when I'm in Vegas but it is very convenient for the tournament. I am ataying in the renovated rooms from the 8th till the 17th at a cost of around 600.00. You can get into the front tower cheaper if needed.

Circus Circus

The year I got married during nationals

We upgraded to the Jaccuzi Tub room @Circus Circus wasn't much money either

I will never go to nationals again without that option

After being your on your feet all day playing pool nothing is better than to soak your feat in the Jaccuzi.

Your fresh and ready for another full day of pool and maybe fit in a 10 min wedding.

If your not at the Riv, stay at the LV Hilton - nicer than Circus and Sahara.

Anything else, is just too far away to be at all convenient.

check out i4vegas.com or something like that. you can google it.

i've been getting e-mails for all kinds of crazy deals from a lot of the hotels. MGM has been sending me rates for $52 a night. I booked my room at the Mirage for $65 a night even on the weekend. It's a little further away, but I figured I'll have my car and it will keep me from drinking til after being knocked out of the tournament:wink:. The Luxor has been sending me rates for $42 a night. Sometimes you can get good rates downtown if you are willing to cab it or what not. Good luck!

I've stayed at the Circus and the Hilton. I'd take the Hilton over the Circus anyday.

I think

I realize that they were rude to you, and if that stops you, ok. I've stayed other places, including Circus Circus, and don't care for the inconvience of the walk. The way the Riv works it, they release a certain number of rooms, every so often as the dates get closer. I had called a few years back, was told there were no rooms available, my buddy calls 3 days later and gets a room. I called back and complained, and the lady explained what happened.
The next year I called in Jan. and they told me they didn't have any rooms, and I just told the lady they lost my business, I knew they had rooms left, and once I stay across the street, they lose my action forever. I hung up and she called back about 10 minutes later, and had me a room booked.
Some of their people are probably a little rude right now, do to not knowing whether they will have a job much longer. Best of luck to you.

The rooms at Circus Circus that have been renovated are for the towers in the back of the hotel or the annex. You do not want to stay there as it adds about 10 minutes minimum to your walk to the Riv. If you book at Circus Circus, make sure you tell them you want the front tower - the rooms wont be renovated but you will be happier with your walk.

I always wondered about the Hilton behind the Riv but never checked it out. There are some other hotels on the street behind the Riv (not sure of the name of the hotel) but they have kitchens/extended stay ammenities that might be nice. If you could find those cheap enough and a cheap car rental, that would be an option. Budget/National all have last minute deals that are much cheaper rates when renting a car.

Calling back to the Riv is also a great piece of advice. Last year, I needed two rooms for friends at a late date. I got ahold of a real nice reservationist and she would check for me every day for cancelations. When she saw them, she would book it for me. I have her name and will sell it to you for a small fee. :D I won't be using her this year as I will not be staying at the Riv - thank God.

I stay at the circus every year & like it just fine. For the money, it's tough to beat. I don't spend much time there, just shit, shower & sometimes sleep. It's convenient with being right next to slots of fun, which has cheap beer :) And it's a stone throw away from the riv right across the street. Don't get me wrong, I love staying with my wife in fancy hotels & all the luxuries that come with it, but when playing pool I just need something cheap that has a clean toilet & shower. Everything else is wasting money that I could instead be using to gamble away.

I stayed at the Stratosphere a while back and thought it was very nice for the money -- friendly staff, unlike the Riv. Nice, clean accommodations but not luxurious. You could walk from Stratosphere to Riv in about 20 minutes, but a cab ride is probably more practical.

Good luck!

The Hilton is the way to go, it's a short walk and you can walk right into the playing areas usually. Much nicer than Circus Circus.

We tried the Sahara once and I gave up walking and cabed it back and forth which wasn't too bad.

You can get a room at the Riv if you keep trying, assuming you're open to that.

Circus Circus is perfect location. The only thing i suggest is to upgrade your rooms. The cheaper rooms have the worst beds....

We booked in the Circus Circus this year for the first time. The Rivera would not give us any better player rate, so we are going across the street. We booked at $24.95 in the tower.

Can someone tell me which are the best rooms at the Circus Circus, the tower or the manor.

Try the Stratosphere. If you sign up for their rewards program (which is free) the hotel rate is dirt cheap. The rooms are nothing fancy, but you won't be in them most of the time any way.
