how do you guys cope......

dick neighbors out of ohio. i saw a few cues he made for chris bartram (in my sleep i play like him and have giant balls to bet big cash - then i wake up and realize i'm terrible and haven't had the nads to bet 10 bucks that water is wet) and loved the work. then i asked around on here and found out that dick's rep is solid, he makes good cues and the price and manufacture time would be more than fair. so i made the leap from 20 year old meucci to brand new custom.

Oops I just realized you mentioned dick's name in the original post. Silly me.

Out of curiosity, what's the design that you sketched?

when you're waiting for a cue to be built? i just sent my deposit and sketches and ideas to dick neighbors and i'm already going nuts with anticipation. i've never bought a custom cue before and i haven't bought a new cue in 20 years. how do you guys who have customs deal with the wait? one of the guys i shoot with sipmly told me "the juice will be worth the sqeeze". i wanted to hit him a cue ball :) at least i have this on my side, dick said once he gets all the dimensions together and starts it will only be a matter of 10 to 12 weeks. i've seen some posts about being on waitng lists for years i.e. southwest. i guess i'll just start rocking and pacing like rain man.

Dick has a pretty short wait.

I usually order 1-2 cues each year from various makers.

How do I handle it? Well, I usually have them staggered out so I get something every 6 months or so.

it's a pretty straight forward retro / balabushka style design. four points, four veneer, notched diamonds and dots in ponits and buttsleeve. birdseye maple forearm, ebony buttsleeve and points white butt cap and some rings in the buttsleeve. it's a look that i really like. some of my friends have gotten on me for ordering a design that's been done to death but it's my cash and i figure that's what i want to spend it on.

nice. i wish i had the cash to order a few a year. this is my first. i see in the list you have a tascarella. what was the wait like on that bad boy? can you still even order one from him?

Picked the Tascarella up on the secondary market. Dont play with it much, nothing against the cue, I just have really fell in love with this JW, I got from Troy.

ALL of my cues play great or they get moved down the line. Most get some play at home.

My recommendation is to get you name in on some of the top long lead cuemakers. I am working on placing ANOTHER cue on order with Showman and I think he is at 6 years wait.

While I dont have a Hailey cue on order, I recommend it highly for those who have the means.

probably wont be as bad as when its finally shipped and you make fedex your homepage and hit the track button 400 times a minute to see if it moved anywhere. You will end up like that guy in LOST who hits the button every 104 minutes lol.

By FAR the worst part. I've had a package sit in Jacksonville for 3 days.

Honestly, I used to do that hurry up and wait thing and it would drive me to drink - almost. Now when I order a cue, I just forget about it and if the planets align, someday I will get a call - "your cue's done!"

Currently on order:

Carmeli - 2
Morris - 1
Montalvo - 1
Searing - 2

there is no.

there is no easy way to deal. I am literally biting my cheek everyday until a pic shows up on the board and then all is right in the universe. Good things come to those who wait patiently. At least I have a fine piece of masterwork to keep me satiated but it's just like waiting for your birthday or Christmas presents.
Good luck!

Dick is a solid builder. You'll get exactly what you ordered & no doubt you'll love it. You won't pay to much & you'll get it on time. Cues are his job & he takes his work seriously. Sit back & relax, forget about your deposit. Every penny spent is worth it.

I will second that. I have seen and hit a few balls with C Bartrums cue that Dick made. Its great. I like the screw on extension he made for it and the extra long wrap that covers the beatiful butt sleve he had. Its a great player cue-one of the best I have seen, all performance enhanced looks aside.

I just talked to a guy tonight that ordered a cue from Southwest while he was in Vegas in 2000. They just called him this week to say that he would have his cue in 9 months... She originally told him it would be 6 yrs but it ended up 8 yrs 9mos. How would you like to be in SW's spot, they have to love it.....

Saw

Ohhh, BTW, Dickie makes one of the best playing cues on planet Earth..... JMHO

I find it therapeutic to send deposits out to several other builders while I am waiting. Then in stead of worrying about the cue. You spend your time devising a plan on how your going to pay for all of them.

I will second all the good things said about Mr. Neighbors! I purchased a cue from Dick and it was delivered on time. Dick will answer calls,(sorry Dick) questions and send pictures as the cue progresses but that will not make it happen any faster. Progress pictures are really not much to look at and I tried not to bother him during the process.Your cue will be worth the wait.

chris, thanks for taking the time to respond. like i said, i saw pics of one of your cues and liked what i saw. after everyone, including you now, gave high praises i made the choice to ask dick to make me a cue. i just hope once i get it i don't embarass his good name by shooting like crap with it:grin: keep up the playing can't wait to see ya in the box again on TAR.

There is a pretty good reference for you. Be patient and allow him to do his magic. I've learned over the years not to rush people like them and tell them you want it and rel bad When you do you often get it BAD.

I think I have 4 or 5 years to go on the Searing order. LOL!

I hope I still play pool then...

so i started this thread back in september when i ordered my cue and a few of of you guys told me it would be more maddening when i knew the cue was shipped. well, i'd like to say damn you all for being right. mr. neighbors let me know yesterday the cue will ship today and i am pulling my hair out with anticipation. btw some of you asked back then what i was having built so here is a pic.

i will put up a few more pics of the cue dick sent me from start to finish in the cue review section when i get it.

My current playing cue took 10 years to get from SW.

The wait was worth every minute.

Nice!

It looks like it's going to be well worth the wait. I like your design.

thank you. i have always liked cues with a nod to the older designs and i think dick knowcked my ideas out of the park. like i said it should be here tomorow or saturday and i'll get a review and more pics up after that.

I just got a pic of my "being-worked-on-new-cue." That sure helps the fix! Of course, it looks really funny at this stage. LMAO!
