How does Cory get shapes on this shot?

I was just watching Pro Pool Videos on Dennis Hatch vs. Cory Deuel and this shot came up in the match. After pocketing the 3 ball, looks like Cory came up a little short on the preferred shapes on the 4 ball.

How do you think he got down on the 5 ball from here?

If you seen it, let others comment before posting answer. Thank you.

Firm stun shot, with CB coming off second rail between the 10 and the 6. Archer, Reyes, Deuel, Soquet, etc.. all seem to hit this shot consistently on target.

Another option is a soft draw, with max outside english... Try to get the CB as close to the side as possible.. If you hit it really good, it will hit the side rail with no speed, but tons of spin, and might even spin PAST the 6. If you get a decent hit, it will spin directly into the face of the 6, hard enough to bump it out of the way and have a cut shot on the 5. (With two rail position to the 6...) This seems like the sort of shot someone like Deuel would practice for hours at a time, so he would have some consistency at it.

Did I get it right??? :D :D :D

I've seen the video so I won't spoil the answer for anyone, but it was one of those shots that I thought I knew what he was going to do, and at the last minute was betrayed! Corey ended up doing something I didn't expect at all (I mean, shy of something silly like a 3-rail bank in the side).

If you tell me he shot an inside follow shot three rails on a tight Diamond table, ima be sick.... :D :D :D

I haven't seen it, but the way Corey's mind works... he looked at the gap between the 6 and the rail - shook his head - then looked at the gap between the 6 and the 10 and did something like this...

Either that, or he went went between the 9 and the 10 - Corey likes taking routes like this and opening up his stroke.

Hah, I love the diagram. It's not the shot, but I think you should take your smiley-faced cueball and make some suggestions to Wei!

Because of the way the question is asked.

I am going to guess that he hit it with max inside, the CB comes back cross table and the English takes and comes down between the 6 and 10, to get on the 5.

Very good suggestions Russ. You're thinking like about 99 % of all the other people playing this game of their caliper.

The stun shot off the side rail to just below the other side pocket and between the 10/6 was the shot I was thinking also. The draw shot leaves me up table too far for good shapes (for me) on the 5.

But as Steven already stated, not the shot Cory pulled off.

I don't know how he'd shoot it, but here's my idea: He might just shoot the shot with left english (wouldn't that be inside?) draw.... and draw the cue ball straight down table between the 6 and the 10. At least that's what I'd try to do, but what do I know.

LOL... I just watched it - I knew he'd look at the gap between the 6 and the raill and find another way - I knew he wouldn't go for position that way - (going between the 6 and the rail he could have scratched) - I like the shot he performed - he is one of my favorite players to watch because you can learn so much from the way he gets around the table.

Thin cross bank to the left corner. Hehehe.
Or High left 3-railer.
I'd have missed and slopped the 9 in.

Just watched it. Seriously, wtf?

The funniest part, was a few weeks before this he was showing me his tip and said he loves to get it as flat as pancake because he gets the most action on the cue ball when there is like just a thin piece of leather on the ferrule. I think "amazing skill" is also required to juice the ball up like that.

(For those wondering - its an extremely worn down LePro tip - watch the video and look at how much tip he has on there - not much)
