How does Cory get shapes on this shot?

Also, I don't think the shot will work well on two-month-old cloth -- too much "take" on the first cushion.
The screen shot doesn't show the shot very well. You have to watch it. He had maybe a half ball hit which made this shot possible along with max spin, new cloth and balls.

There is another much more common version of this shot. It is in the Buddy Hall videos. It is similar in execution but different in set up. When a ball is being cut into the corner at a sharper angle than given in this shot the cue balk will travel up table diagonally and will generally die or straighten off the tire rail. Buddy shoots this shot as Corey did hard and loaded with reverse English. This way the cueball is still spinning when it hits the long rail and the English causes a natural three rail position from an unnatural entry.

You are a hero, 4 year old thread and updated the link for us! :D

Thanks. The Bustamante thread got me thinking about this one. When I clicked the link to review...I found it wasn't active anymore.

Therefore the update.

Any other shot is risky in comparison.

I was just watching Pro Pool Videos on Dennis Hatch vs. Cory Deuel and this shot came up in the match. After pocketing the 3 ball, looks like Cory came up a little short on the preferred shapes on the 4 ball.

How do you think he got down on the 5 ball from here?

If you seen it, let others comment before posting answer. Thank you.

The best shot is to draw it straight back to the end rail in between the 5 and the 6 ball using a touch of inside. This may not look like's "on" and I'll assure you that it is. Any other shot is risky in comparison. CJ Wiley

Looks as though the cue can be pulled straight down to the end rail passing the six on the inside (between the 6 & 10).

X2 CJ. In practice with my friends I would be inclined to play this shot but for the money I'm drawing it every time there.

Darn vid link doesn't work on my tablet.

If you are ever playing a stranger for money and you see him do something close to that, quit your in a bad game!

I don't think that's possible given the angle on the 4, but I thought the draw shot the commentator mentions--drawing to the cushion between the 6 ball and (below) the side pocket was available--but maybe even that wasn't available since Corey didn't shoot that shot.

The 3D perspective can trick your eyes. It often makes shots appear flatter/straighter than they really are. I think the top-down view paints a better picture. It may have even been thinner than I'm showing.

Drawing to the left side of the 6 ball may be possible, (it needs pretty soft draw) but you may bump it and you're on a track to leave yourself kinda thin on the 5 ball.

Between 6 and the rail is probably what I would have tried for, but you risk 2 bad outcomes... the draw takes a little better than hoped and the CB ends up drifting closer and closer to the rail, finishing with you frozen to the rail... or it doesn't take early enough and you hit the side pocket nipple.

Corey's shot avoids a lot of potential problems but honestly does seem like showing off a little. It almost seems table-dependent. I dunno if I can walk to the local pool room on dirty old gold crowns and hit with low inside and expect the CB to slide off the first rail with almost no effect, then bite on the second rail and softly drift all the way down.

the TOI draw shot will allow you to create angles that don't look possible

We know the TOI draw shot will allow you to create angles that don't look possible until you actually shoot them. I'm pretty sure I could draw this ball back and at least hit the 6....of course it's difficult to tell the exact angle here, but drawing it past the side is available for sure. I may have to set this one up and shoot in on a you tube video.

I've shown these type TOI shots to top pros and they can't believe what can be accomplished. It looks like an optical illusion the first couple times you see someone do it, that's for sure. ;)

tuff to see the angle from the still, but id likele be trying to draw it slightly below th 6, either side.

but my runouts tend to look a lot like drunk driving...and i have negative3 business questioning coreys choices.

This is a perfect shot for TOI draw. The cue ball will start to bend before it hits the rail and the slight inside stroke will hold it close to the rail. Outside draw will send it to the rail and the rebound angle will be away from the rail.

Best,
Mike

Meh that wasnt all that great. I thought a 3 railer with high left would've been more impressive. That or stun draw shot down the rail with perfect speed.

You want to see Corey do something special look at the 1:53 mark on this video. Most have seen this shot before but if you havent it will humble you!!

You found some top pros that don't know how to draw with inside english to widen the angle?
