How far do you drive

Man, with me coaching my sons baseball team, I havnt picked up a pool cue in 2.5 months. Maybe after baseball season I can learn how to shoot again :)

Well let's see???

to get to your favorite pool room? 130 miles round trip college billiards in San Diego , How far will you drive for a evening weekday tournament? about an hour each way Or $500/1000 added weekend tournament? about 12 hours Will you drive an hour to go see a big name play some sets on their way thru to a big tournament? Sure I drove an hour to watch the match up between Oscar and John

And a related question-how many rooms are you known in? As a casual player. Or as player. Well although I'm not much of a gambler and play only occasionally in tournaments, socal pool is pretty tight nit, most socal players will recognise me as a player even if they don't know me by name

Is the drive to and/or back a consideration or is it all based on why you're going there?

all based on why I am going there. I could care less about the drive, but I'm used to driving. I used to drive from Redlands to Point mugu 3-4 times a week,

Hopefully that answers your questions...

The place I play at 80% of the time is about an hour each way, Chalks in Woonsocket, RI. The secondary place is about 30 min from me in Clinton, MA called Break-away Billiards.

There are several closer rooms (Boston Billiards and Jillians) but Chalks has all day/night specials to go from $5 to $8 (maybe 9, I forget exactly) for all day or night even on the weekends. Break-away has FREE pool on nice 9 footers Tue, Wed, Th. and very reasonable drink prices. And the equipment in both the places I go to is much better than the closer rooms.

In Chalks I'm one of the regulars, everyone there knows me, in Break-away not so much. Even though I go there on average once a week sometimes twice, I have only seen a few players there near my skill and none of them want to play. The manager knows me but he never steers anyone to me for a game. About 10+ years back I used to hang around Boston a lot, people knew me there somewhat at Boston Billiards. Brighton Billiards, which was probably the best action room in the Boston area before it closed, I was fairly well known in but not as a gambler, just went there to get better and play in their tournament.

Before I discoverd these places I was spending way too much money on table time. Between tournament and small gambling winnings I end up even or ahead of the deal even counting gas/food/entry fees.

I used to drive about 8-9 km to get my local hall before it closed, now when I decide to play it's a bit further away but it's all highway driving so the time is pretty similar to get there. When I used to travel around to tournaments regularly I would gladly drive 3-4 hours to get to a weekend event and have driven as far as 13 hours for a good one.

Sadly, the pool scene here has died and my cues are collecting a bit of dust. I did bust them out for a US Open 10 ball qualifier a few weeks back, was fun to get out playing again.

In El Paso about a 20 minute one way- in Clarksville about a 20 minute one way unless it's to Nashville which it is about an hour. For big tournaments distance is no object. I have traveled up to 2000 miles one way.

i drive 15 minutes to the local room, if i could to would drive 75 miles to hardtimes or 90 miles to hollywood billiards.
Hollywood billiards has the best and most friendly staff of any pool room I have ever been it.
If you go there at night say hello to april, she is a sweetheart.

35 minutes, though I can carpool for 15 of them.

I will drive an extra 20-30 minutes for good equipment and/or better atmosphere.

I live where all the bars in my league (all 6) are within a 2 mile area. I can walk to most of my matches but I still prefer to drive just so I have my truck close by if I need it.

I drove an 80 mile round trip from home to play in an 8-ball tournament Sunday. It's the pool room where I usually play. I work real close but sometimes make the long trip from home to play there.

How many rooms I'm known in depends on who is there when I walk in. Somewhere between zero and a few.
