How fast do you think your break is?

I am just curious how hard people think they break. That other thread got me wondering.

APA team nationals in Vegas this year....21, 22, 21 (didn't really JUMP on any of them, just a very hard break sroke). A buddy wanted to try it the next day, and all he could muster was 19 as his highest. He didn't believe me when I said all 3 of my previous tries were 20+....so, I gave it another go. 23,24,22; of course I was trying to CRUSH it since he didn't believe me. Right after, we went over and talked with Allison Fisher, and Gerta Hofstetter, and I had to ask if they'd tried the break gun. Allison, said she'd like to give it a go, so I told her I'd buy her 3 tries....she went 18, 19, 18, and decided she wanted to try for 20, and the guys let her go for 3 more - 19, 19, 18. She just smiled afterward, and said, yeah, but did you notice I made something on all of those. Of course, I told everyone I could that Allison had a BIGGER break than my teammate, and have ribbed him about it since

BTW, they had a contest for biggest break out there, and I didn't even try to enter it....there were a couple of 30+s recorded (I think 31 was the highest), and quite a few 25s, 26s, 27s, etc....sheesh. I was told the guy who lead with 31 had a 32 also, but didn't keep it on the table. THAT'S FAST!!!! 40??? would like to see it!!!!

Years ago

in Vegas, I broke at 24, 28, and 31, but couldn't keep the 31 on the table. I would say today, I probably break about 24-25.

A couple of years ago in Vegas, I clocked 22.8, 23.8 and a 24.6.

It shocked me because I always thought I broke maybe in the high teens on a good day.

At what point does the cb reach maximum velocity? Why would a break on a big table clock slower than on a bar box? It would depend on what point in it's travel it was clocked.... while it was still accellerating or after peak speed.

yeah, it was on a box, but I'm not sure where the gun takes it's reading??? I'm sure the fastest point is directly after contact. I doubt it'd be as dramatic as the baseball anaology. After I had the 24 mph, the guy running it said I should try for the contest....I told him I wanted to use my numbers from the launch monitor at Callaway (golf) from the day before - 170mph+ ball speeds He asked it I could keep that on the table??? Guess he had me there. LOL

BTW, I saw a buncha big (stronger looking) guys wailing away on this table with numbers around mine or in some cases lower. Looked like they were trying WAY too hard. I equate it to golf, long and loose = higher speeds. I only had one ball really get airborn (the 23 mph), and that's cuz I know I hit that one with a bit more of a descending blow (got probably a foot or so off the table, but came back down, and stayed on). But, I also made 5 balls on that break (9-ball rack)....???? I'd like to try it for anhour straight to find out what gives me the best, most consistant results...

Long Horn has a delicious steak that isn't cheap but isn't quite 100$ a plate. I don't think I'm gonna lose anyway. Also my first reply after re reading sounds like heads I win tails you lose. A friend of mine at the local pool room is an electronics hobbiest and made a makeshift radar gun so I know that I am right around 17mph. But I hit 'em square.

I've never used a radar gun, but based on the last few months I'd guess I break at about $500/hour..........

Another fella from MN has had several in the low 30's at VNEA Nationals last year. I think he controlled a 31.8 and had a few over 32 but couldn't keep it on the table.

Breaking the bank

I can break as high as 27 MPH, consistently at 24 MPH but have found that my break is most productive in nine ball at about 18 MPH. All of this was measured with a radar gun.

I am just curious how hard people think they break. That other thread got me wondering.

There is noone who can do 35MPH on a big table...

I always loved when they had the speed gun contest at Hopkins Show in Valley Forge.. I won several Sardo racks from that contest..
I have done 30mph..
I don't think people realize how fast that is in 5 feet...

I was wondering that too.

On a Big Table you certainly have more room for your bridge placement, stroking length which allows for hitting the cue ball harder.

I feel that I develop more speed, because I have more stroke length on a Big Table. It may not be 10%, but it feels like more.

Way back at the BCA (maybe 7-8 years ago?) I hit a high break of 23.something (I think it was .70 something)... so naturally I say my fastest break is 24 mph, I mean you can round up right? LOL

I broke over 21 at the Jimbojambo a while back but I don't think I kept it on the table. I think my break has gotten better but I've also gotten older so I'm guessing I break between 18-21 mph now days when I'm trying to hit them hard, that's why I chose the 20+ category in the poll.

There's a guy around Denver who easily breaks 24-25 in vegas every year and sometimes tops 28. He posts on here occasionally.

I break at 1280 feet per second, when I use my .45!

No real idea how fast I break, never chased a monster break. I can hit them pretty hard but even way back when it wasn't cool I used a moderate speed break. The idea was to pocket a ball or three and open them up, not see how hard I could hit them.

In Vegas last May, I broke 21.5 mph 3 times in a row and parked the cueball each time. I was breaking as I normally would in competition. I'm sure if I let it all out, I could probably get as high as 23-25

According to a Radar Gun at the BCA Trade Expo years ago I hit 37mph once. However, after a MC accident the last time I was tested by a Radar gun I was in the low 20's at best. The break is the best part of my game. I just wish I ran out 1/2 as good as I can break.

I have been known many of times to jump up and challenge anybody in the room to a break contest and I still will. I'm on a budget these days but anyone on earth has $100 action in a break contest with me.

I ain't talkin outta my azz either. You know where to find me on almost any given weekend. All'ya gots to do is step up and I'm in.
