How many times can a cue be bought and resold before the warranty expires?

Or does it expire?
There is thread gone wild at the For Sale section as we know.
So, if you made a cue for someone, then he sold it.
The cue goes across the continents and back maybe.
Two people or more might have owned, played and sold it.
Now, it might no longer be sellable for a profit.
So, does your warranty still hold?
Let's say the handle has a warp ( or is thought to have a warp ) , does your warranty hold?

Joey, I suspect that most cue makers only warrant their cues to the original buyer. We all know that cue are sold and sold and sold again and not always for their original price, in fact many times prices are reduced.

After a cue has been handled by some many individuals and no one knows how it was handled no cue maker should be responsible.

As far Warping of a cues handle, forearm or butt I do not know of any cue maker whose warranty covers it even to the original customer, however, most will correct those problems for that customer if damge is not his fault.

I think I know which thread you're refering to Joey.
That cue traveled many miles and has changed hands. Under those or any circumstances, I don't think the cue maker has any responsibilty beyond the first owner.

i always feel strange about posting in this forum but here's my opinion. as a buyer i don't expect a cue maker to cover any repairs if i didn't buy it directly from him.

of course these days i don't know what to expect. a friend of mine (who might read this today) bought a cue from a pretty well known maker. kept it in an instroke in his closet for less than a year and it warped. the cue maker basically told him tough titty and left it at that. i guess it's always appreciated but never expected in my book

Here's my take on it, If my cue comes back to me for a refinish, if for some reason I don't like the way the butt spins, I address it. If it's the first owner, I address it quick. If it's from a reputable dealer of mine that I know stores them correctly, I'm fine with that too. I have seen some dealers store cues in a pretty careless manor, (DUMB ASS) If it's a flip and re-flip, I work it out as professionally as possible, No complaints yet. Oh and if someone changed the wrap and re-cut the wrap section, it would be nice to know just because not everyone working on cues, should be working on cues.
By the way, I would still like to see the link, PLEASE!

Thanks Mike.

Joey, you make cues ... what are your feelings about that?

Would you warranty one of your cues to the third owner?

I will fix any WilleeCue ... if I can ... for the cost of materials and shipping.

Just one of the many reasons Webb cues are held in such high regard.

I'll guarantee the cue for life except for normal wear and tear of course.
But, think of a very popular brand whose cues take 7 years to make.
And most of them get flipped. All over the world.
Should the warranty their cues after they've been flipped all over?
It's a tough call.
For some of us who don't have 2000 cues on order, it's an easy fix.

See, I think that would be the one in the maybe 5% out of 100 that would be like that. Michael, Joey and Willee being in the other 95%.

If I were a cuemaker, I would prefer the cue to come back to me for repair.
Just imagine some unexperience cue maker doing work work on your cue and quality is different after that.

Thanks Willee, your to kind. At the end of the day, This is what you have, Yourself and nothing else. We are all, far from perfect but in knowing that, We're able to learn.

IMO, a new cue should be waranteed to the original owner for workmanship defects as long as he owns the cue and does not subject it to physical abuse or temperature/ humidity extremes. If a pin or collar comes loose, all the cuemakers whose product I sell will stand behind their product to the original owner. Some items like ivory joints, ferrules, and snakewood parts are covered only for a limted amount of time. Butt or shaft warpage would usually show up before a cue left the shop. Once a cue is second hand there is no warranty. Its unfortunate that some people attempt to abuse cuemakers by holding them to an unrealistic standard.

hmmmm, Looks like their having a lot of fun in that thread, Me thinks I go back to work cause I'm real good about minding my own business. If you pee in front of a fan, You get wet, But if you do it behind the fan, Others get wet.:grin:

I will warranty all of my cues from manufactering defects to the original owner. If someone buys one of my cue second or third hand that has a problem I would rather be the person that fixes the problem. It wont be for free, but it will be at a huge discount and in some cases free of charge. Depending upon the problem. But, as soon as the original owner or second or third owner takes one of my cues to someone else to be fixed there will be no warranty on that cue. Excluding general maitenance of course!! I am only as good as the product that I deliver! So if the product isnt good, neither am I!!! So far so good! That is also why I hit balls with every cue I build and check it very thoroughly before it goes out the door!!!! I wont let a cue go out that I am not 110% happy with!! And as everyone that has dealt with me knows, I am very easy to get a hold of!!

Each builder will have their own policy what is fair and how they handle warrantee issues.
I state my warrantee policy on every quote before they order a cue. I explain my warrantee policy again before shipping the cue so their is never any doubt if something happens.

My policy is simple.

If I built it it's guaranteed for life no matter how many times it sells. I don't care if the owner put a big ass scratch in it. If it warps send it back and I'll fix it. They pay for shipping if it's their fault.

I want the first impression on every cue to be WOW. You never know who might pick up the cue and take a few shots with it.

I'm sure most don't agree with my policy but it sure is nice to know it's not going to cost you $100-$200 to fix that scatch you just put in your new cue.

Quite a liberal warranty...very open for abuse in my opinion...Best of luck!

I believe this sounds right on. Cost effective for you and acceptable to the owners.

This is what I would expect from a builder.

Gracio is opening himself up to having to a lot of work for free. I would be fine with that too...lol!

I don't care how many people have owned the cue, it should still be warranted against any defect in Craftsmanship. As far as "warpage happening before a cue leaves the shop, therefore no warranty on that". I believe that is garbage! Many builders do not wait long enough to let everything settle before sending it out. So many times the rings pop out, the cue warps a bit...these should all be warranted IMO.

I think anything relating to craftsmanship should be warranted for life no matter how many owners.

Warranty not necessarliy meaning completely free fix but a large discount as Patrick cues suggested he does.
