How much did your playing cue cost?

$200 for a late 60's (black label) Brunswick Hoppe Pro and fell in love with it. So much so, I sold my backup cues, a 75' Joss West merry widow player and a Schon STL-9.

2012 - $200 Lucasi LCB6 w/ Flex Slim shaft upgrade

I don't want to relive the painful memories of the many beloved cues I've sold.:withstupid:

My playing cue is a $75 Brunswick that I won in a college tournament years ago. I've tried to replace it a dozen times, but I keep coming back to this one. By now it feels like an extension of my arm.

$200.00
In 1978 I bought a Palmer Model 5 Custom (first catalog) for $200.00
and for an extra $50.00 he threw in a Fellini case.

jnf...Difficult to believe, as neither Dan Janes, nor Bill Stroud sold any cues, even in the early 70's, for less than double your figure...let alone a custom cue that you designed.

In 1972 I designed and ordered a Joss BEM plain jane with an ivory joint, 14mm ivory ferrule, a courtland wrap, a TAD style dashed ring at the buttcap and the delrin buttcap 2" long. It cost $75.00 and I still use it most every evening.

I think $525. I got it from the Billiardwarehouse and it was on sale for $100 less than their list of $625. It was the monthly special and I was on the look out for a Schuler after hitting with one recently. It was kismet.

The price of it went up to $725 or so a little later.

Even though I have other cues that are worth many times more, the Schuler is still my main player.

I paid $25.00 a week (on layaway) for my McDermott G303. It totaled $319.00. I've never owned a nice one before and I've always liked McDermott cues.

I bought my break cue, an Elite 21 oz for $90.00...

I've got two kids, a wife, a mortgage and only a part time job. Money is tight and I can't justify spending a lot on cues.

I'll have and cherish both of these cues for years.

Now I just need a case for both of them. However, I typically only play on my table that is in my Man Cave. I never really leave....yet.

I have a plain black cuetec r360. Bought it new out of package for $63

I also have a basic Cuetec Jump/break cue for $53

I don't feel that I need a better cue.

the one i play with right now is about $10. just installed a pressed emerald tip this morning, which makes it about $12

$275 for my player
$150 for my break
Still looking for a jump cue

And $100 even for my Dale Perry bar cue.

The playing cue I used most for the last 3 years is a $150.00 Cuetec R-360. Love it. Johnnyt

The most I spent on a cue is for my Ariel Carmeli, which is a great cue that I don't use much anymore.... it's for sale for $1200 in the For Sale threads right now.... I only paid $5000 for it ;)

Now shoot with a 1940's model Willie Hoppe that I bought at the Chicago Cue Show for $225 a year ago, and had it completely refinished, including new joint, bumper, hoppe ring, leather wrap, and OB shaft. That's my every day cue now.

My average playing cue costs me around $2600 (Scruggs, Mottey & new custom being built right now). My Runde Schon set me back $800 in 1985 and that was a ton of dough back then too.........Pool Cues & Cases, Guns and Watches......those are my big three vices. I feel very fortunate to be a position to pass these things along to my children and in turn theirs as well, etc, "this was my dad's.: And hopefully that becomes..... "This was my grandfather's etc."

My pool cues will never be sold and that's why I buy higher end cues. Nonetheless, my collection is scant and pale in comparison to what others on AZ have........I betcha there are playing cues for some Azers that run above $5k easily..........Joel Hercek, Ed Prewitt, Black Boar, Szamboti, Dennis Searing........remember that a playing cue by purpose is the one you typically use to play with versus occasionally use.........so there are bound to be some playing cues that would be worth several of mine combined.

Funny thing is.....no matter how much one spends for a main playing cue........the cue doesn't make its owner a better player, improves the owner's nerves under pressure or expand the owner's knowledge of the game even a minute fraction. But it is sure nice to have a cue that others appreciate. I'm envious of some of the cues some Azers own as much as some would feel the same about mine. But that's what's life is about about....accepting what we have but nonetheless still striving to get what we want......and mine happens to be adding Level 6 Ed Prewitt and Joel Hercek pool cues to my collection.

Scruggs butt $2300 + Z2 shaft $220. It's the one I shoot with in my videos. No reason to change anymore but I miss trying out new cues.
