I get all the Breaks
Silver Member
I just thouhgt I'd let everyone know I broke my right wrist on wednesday, playing basketball. Busted it right at the joint, going to require surgery to repair. Pray for me, I'm kind of down right now. Business has been slow for and I've got cover the entire procedure out of pocket, no health insurance. You never know when something bad is going to happen, cherish everyday and protect yourself.

ouch!

You shoulda been shooting pool instead of hoops. I have never seen a broken wrist from shooting pool although it can be hard on thumbs!

Seriously, hang in there. "Stuff" happens, there are always better days ahead though.

Sorry to hear that. I broke my wrist in 8th grade a month before basketball season. When I got the cast off my forearm and wrist were weak so I had to strengthen it to be able to shoot. What a pain.

That sucks. I've been battling some shoulder problems lately, so I feel your pain. I was afraid it might be a torn rotator cuff, but the doctor said it's just tendonitis. Good luck with the wrist.

That's some bad news, BC. I hate being injured if it means no pool for me. I'm currently on crutches again as my left knee has decided to freak out on me, I went to the doc today & ended up having blood drawn (which I hate, me & needles don't mix. I'm a total wuss there) to try & figure the problem once & for all. My wife just says I'm broken & she needs to get a replacement from England!

I'm sorry to hear about your injury and I hope everything goes well wih the surgery.

It's about time you give up those physical sports. You ain't as young as you used to be. :D

I gave up those sports many years ago, but I'm still suffering from the injuries. :(

You're in my prayers, Cat. Hang in there. I broke both of mine at the same time once, badly. I don't play football any more. It will pass, keep the faith.

Both at the same time? Yikes! Now that must have been a nightmare! I'm curious, and not being silly, but which one healed fastest?

Sorry to hear about your injury Cat, and I wish you the best on your surgery and recovery! Remember that your strength and fortitude are not tested in the best of times, but in the worst of times.

Out of curiosity, is it your bridge hand or back hand?
Get well soon and best wishes.

That is the worst break possible, right at the joint. There are so many little bones in your wrist. Of course, you know all that now. I hope you didn't need pins.

Even after it heals, you must be very careful for a long, long time. No basketball, baseball or football. ONLY POOL!!! :)

Damn! I F'd my ankle up big time playin hoops in 2000. Couldn't put weight on it for almost 6mos. I used to be a star, now I MIGHT play horse.

You'll heal, still sucks in the short term. You wanna play $ome?!;)

Sorry to hear about your broken wrist. Hopefully tou will mend & things will be OK. One of our locals got his wrist broken. He was a good 6-7 speed before. After he played all summer in his cast, he went to 8-9 Speed. He's a 10 speed now. It was a phenominal change.

I have to wonder if his wrist in a cast made a great change in his grip. I don't know what happened, we just know it happened.

Right wrist was broken in seven places but the joint was ok, left wrist was broken in nine spots and the joint dislocated through the growth line, required two surgeries...right wrist healed faster! This happened playing high school football when I was 15. :p

Holy cow!!!

NO Insurance????? If you haven't been to the doctor much the last few years, I am afraid you will come away with 'Sticker shock' after surgery.

Medical costs have skyrocketed the last few years.

Hey BC, keep your chin up. When I first met my husband Mike, I wanted to go skiing and other physical sports and he always said no, he never wanted to take the chance of hurting himself so he couldn't play pool. That was certainly a new concept for me.

I cut my wrist deeply falling on a metal lid's jagged edge (going pee in the woods while drunk in college, lol) and had to wear a splint, and I will tell you, I never had a more stable bridge. If your cast is on your bridge hand, make an indentation for your cue to rest and you should be ok.

I will keep you in my prayers, and make sure to take this enforced time to contemplate, make plans for the future, and be productive in other ways. Oh yeah, and don't forget to play pool. ;)

Thanks for the support guy's. The break is to my back hand, not the bridge hand. The Orthopedics Dr. said it's going to need plates and screws. If my game elevates that would be a fantastic. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks, BC :) :)

I really feel for you, I broke my elbow (my stroke arm) last year and it was pretty devastating. I also did not have insurance. I was able to work out a barter deal with a very good sports medicine group. Luckily, I did not need surgery but I did need a lot of physical therapy. I do reccomend a sports medicine doc if you can and think hard, maybe you have something they need, you could barter a deal for?
