I did commenary for the Predator 10 ball tournment, Charlie asked me to as I was leaving last night, I was VERY tired but did my best-but it wasnt so good. One problem with doing the commentary on this match was all we could see was a 5" monitor, nothing else. so it was impossible to see if balls could pass other balls etc they were dots on a screen, after a shot we could say"good speed" or "that was the right/wrong shot". But to comment on the possibilitys ahead of time would have been worse than talking about vacations etc. because we tried and were awalys wrong about what was going to happen. So it was more open mic conversation, Its hard to do commentary-i suppose thats why there arnt alot more people doing it. JoeyA has a natural ability and is great, I'm not-but I'm gonna give it my best effort. I dont want to be a fulltime commentator but good at it, so when I do it I dont dissapoint.

I was glad to help(it felt great to be part of the event) sorry if I disappointed anyone-I know I did, but it was one of my first times commentating without thinking about it ahead of time and being perpaired.

I'm the first to admit Im not a good commentator, but I have improved and I was trying my best. I will improve, will I be like Cardone-no, can I be bearable to listen to, I hope so..So please dont hate on me too bad, i did my best.

I did do good with JA at the Appleton/Hatch match for TAR, but I had time to perpair and I know JA so he coached me a bit before we went on the air.

Not being able to see the table(not even the skirts of it) really made it hard at the predator event, but no excuses I need to work on it, and I will. If I suck after my best effort or I dont get better, yes I will stop. But I do believe I can be a good commentator, not as technical as Cardone, Grady, Jay. But I can and hope to be fun to listen to.

Well, a 5 " screen isn't much to go on, so a pre shot commentary would be most difficult to do. You can only be as good as the equipment you have to work with on occasion. BTW, you gonna be hangin around the Riviera next week. Wouldn't mind bumping into you and any other members here for a beer.

Eric I listened to the commentary and heard nothing wrong with it. Although it was late and I was deep into a 6 pac;). I have enjoyed this week of free pool immensely. and I am going to have with drawls I am sure. I t was good enough to put me a week behind on my vegi garden but the tomatoes are kicking a$$.
 
That explains a lot I knew the booth was far from the table but I didn't realize the monitor was so small.

Hopefully I can make it next year and see the great matches in person.

Don't worry I can be bribed with beer.

If its any consolation Eric you and Cris were better then Max and Charlie, they were horrible, you guys were okay. I wish I could have seen you in Vegas, you were in and out of Pool Sharks pretty fast when I was there I did not get a chance to see you, you were in luck. :grin-square:
 
I liked hearing max and charlie.

I was wondering why people were avoiding talking about the actual pool going on in front of them. Now I know. It was hard to see it >_< During the semi's and finals, people did a ton of talking about the pool world in general but not much about interesting, tricky situations in front of them (like when dennis had to shoot into a hanger and play position on the ball after the hanger, just in case both dropped... but also had to worry about position if the ball he shot didn't follow it in).
 
I was there so I didn't have to put up with your crappy commentary on the internet;). I'm sure it was difficult with such as small screen and from the announcing area you could hardly see the table at all. It happens all the time on the TV telecasts where Hopkins etc. think a ball does or does not pass and they're wrong. Same thing with avenues of position etc.

So while you may not have had a good perspective to call the action I'm sure your contribution was good since you certainly know pool.
 
You can't win!

First the stream was crappy because there was NO commentary, then people were critical OF the commentary when it began.LOL

You and Cristina did a great job!! I'm surprised Kozoom was so unprepared for commentary. The camera angles and switching was excellent! A little overdone at times, but I'm REALLY happy that we have LIVE pool to watch and commentary from familiar people!!

I always go back and listen to MY commentary and it's brutal to do!! I am so hard on myself.

Overall......I would say it was some of your best commentary Fatboy!! Cristina makes a great partner in the booth, she knows so much about the game and the sport

Keep your head up, you did pretty good man. Keep pluggin' at it, it will become natural to you.
I am just betting that John Madden wasn't great at it the first few times he got on the mic either........OK, bad example.:)

LOL, Chris Berman did some pool matches early in his career. He was terrible!!

Now, He could go A L L T H E way!!!

I didn't listen the commentary. Two things I like to hear on commentary are A. Discussion of the pool match that is going on and B. annecdotes about pool that are relevant

Especially if B. doesn't overshadow A.

What I definitely DO NOT like to hear is people talking about themselves and all their great accomplishments in life (save that for AZ) - not saying you did or do this Eric, I did not hear the commentary - I am just giving you and every commentator reading this tips from a fan's perspective.
 
I didn't tune in, Eric, but I'm sure you did just fine. The only way you could have done bad, or disappointed anyone, would be if you hadn't done anything at all. You've got heart, sir. :thumbup:

Hey fatboy, you did ok. They should get a real screen to watch on.

One thing. When the 10 doesn't move, it's because the rack was good, not bad. The ball above and to the side of the 10 was sticking to the 10 because they were breaking from the side rail. That doesn't mean it's a bad rack when they stick and the 10 hasn't moved. It's just a bad angle.

And when the 10 shoots out it is always a bad rack. It's not any breaking technique. There is none that will do that with a good rack. (I'm not sure if you were in the booth when someone was speculating on that)
