Agreed. It's not worthy of an initial response when someone tries it.

My typical greeting is, "Play well and let's have fun." But, if they use that line, all they get is, "Play well."

And, if I win, I sometimes toy with them afterwards and ""confess" something like, "Your initial sharking attempt scared the heck out of me and caused me to redouble my efforts to win. Because, when somebody I don't know says that they're usually a strong player and will stab me in the back the first chance they get."

Seriously, it all depends on who & how they say it.
Yrs ago, I had a young Latin lad say dat to me after watching me miss for 15 minutes straight.

I always heard it as "red-headed step-child", although I suppose the child abuse implication is not in vogue--not that it should be.... Mostly though, I think the rhythm of the words is better. :unsure:

As for the topic, I've had people to ask me to take it easy on them more than I've said it to anyone else, but it's usually either someone expecting to get trounced, or the complete opposite.

I agree with the cent I ment butt 😉 The word ignore, well pretty much is better. I think of as putting the box back on the shelf and continue. Just using their request to elevate my "game face" attitude. "Yeah sure let's play patty cake. ☺

Jean Balukas (for newbies, one of the all-time greatest women players/unbeatable gamblers) got hit with that cutesy move by hundreds of first-time women opponents (who never did it a second time).

Many us dedicated fans-of-Jean heard her knock those foolish gals flat and shaking in their sneakers when she -- icy-cold and stone-faced -- looked directly in their eyes up close and said: "Lady, now I'm going to shoot your ovaries off" :mad:

When people tell me to take it easy I try to sound sincere when I say I will. Then I lay down the best set I can often coming out smoking the first few games. When the smoke clears some comment about me saying I would take it easy. "That was taking it it easy."

Some that played me often for small bets were surprised when we met in a fair sized tournament. "You didn't give me a chance!" "No, I am in business mode tonight."
