I think I'm getting ripped off

The other day on the for sale board I sold a Scruggs Titlist cue. The buyer went by tripod who didn't have any posts to his credit. He tells me he doesn't frequent the board but his daughter does and she really liked the cue and wished she could afford it. He wanted to buy the cue for her. We did the deal and he paid me with a echeck on paypal. I told him I wouldn't send the cue till the check cleared and that I was going to the SBE on Thurs. He asked for me to reconsider because he really wanted to get the cue to his daughter.
Well, I sent it yesterday. Since then I've tried to call him to tell him to expect the package. The number is bogus. When I checked my caller id I found that his number was blocked. He told me he was 65 years old and lived near Shea stadium and his bio on the AZ site says he is from Florida and is 21 years old.
I am expecting that the echeck will never clear and that I will be stuck for 4300.00!!!. And I forgot to mention that he also has been banned from here and has gone by the handle of Paris and Jasxe amongst others. I didn't know this at the time of sending the cue.
If the payment never clears I'm hiping that he can be traced thru his bank accnt that transfered the cash into his paypal accnt that has a confirmed address. Also thru his post office box where the cue is to be delivered today by 3:00. Should I be worried that this guy could get away with ripping me off for 4300.00.

TommyT

I would call the postmaster of the zip code that you shipped the cue to immediately and tell them your story and ask them to delay delivering the package. Ask the postmaster or whomever you talk to, "How do you stop the delivery?" There has to be a way to stop it from being delivered. That's a lot of dough. It sounds like fraud is about to be committed and the post office doesn't like to be used as a mule.
JoeyA Call them and don't accept "There's nothing we can do". Keep going up the chain of command, supervisor, post master, post master and continue on until someone says they can do something. Get phone numbers email addresses and of course names...
Good luck

Does not sound good!

YES, you should be very worried. Too many red flags to send the cue. It is a shame that there are so many scammers out there. But for $4300, I would have not shipped the cue until the funds were in my account.

Shipping to a PO box is another RED flag. Hope it all works out but you may have some trouble on your hands.

Best luck, JBK

This is from another thread - where Azbilliards detectives confirmed shipment to a J Holmes - at the address on the package in the photo...

the zip is correct and the thief signed for the shipment

This pr#$k needs to do 30 days. This is becoming a habit for him. No matter what it took, I would stop delivery and pursue this.
30 days is not even close to long enough, we should be talking years for his nonsense. And the thing is, when (and I do mean when because he will get caught) he gets caught, he is looking at some federal offenses due to state lines and especially the use of the post office. With federal offenses, the sentences are generally pretty stiff, and you serve the full term, no getting out early for good behavior. If this guy was smart, knowing that he has really pushed it too far and will be caught, he will refuse the package by taking it to the front desk at the post office and saying the package was not intended for him and to please return to sender.

Do I? It must be a coincidence, I don't chime in on your posts intentionally. I would have said the same thing to anyone on here that posted that. People love to say they would track someone down and hurt them, I don't think it will EVER happen. I sincerely hope I am proved wrong.

I have been ripped off twice on ebay and I tracked the guys down both times and confronted them in person and they made it right. Once law enforcement was involved and once was in a mall in Atlanta.

The amounts were $1200 and $400 and no violence was involved (implied maybe). :D For $4300 violence might come into play.

MM...not a badass but don't rip me off:eek:

If it was shipped by express USPS then the package can be stopped, I have stopped an express package before, go immediately to your post that you mailed it and they will get on the phone until they actually get in contact with the driver that has the package on the truck. Thats what they did for me, if its not an express package they can not stop the delivery I was told.

???????????????

Pay pal, e-check looks pretty iffy to me. Postal money orders is the way to go in my humble opinion. You get your cash right at the post office when you ship. Send cue USPS Priority with insurance an a must sign for package. It is simplicity at its finest. Hope it works out for you but it looks like a scam from the beginning. Since you have gone this route I would involve the blue coats as soon as possible. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for clearing that up! I Do not know why the site I linked to did not list 11352 as a zip code.

Just goes to show that I can not believe everything I find on line.

Steve
glad to be in MI :)

You are a diamond in the rough, Sir. I wouldn't think of ripping you off:D

I've contacted the local Police and filed a crime report. While they were here they spoke with the local postmaster who called the Flushing branch and asked to have the package held because of suspicion of fraudalent activity. I will let everyone know how this plays out. Thanks for all your advice.

Just in case this info gets lost in the thread:

Pulled this info off of google.

J Holmes

4266 Phlox Place
Apt E2
Flushing, NY 11355

Mailing the cue makes it a federal offence. Assuming the cheque bounces.

I would never put myself in a situation to be ripped off by someone like this. I can assure you though, if I paid someone $4300 for something and then they didn't ship it, I would be on the next flight to wherever they were and most certainly would hunt them down.

That address was referenced in another thread, but this address seems to be the most recent -

J HOLMES
4720 208TH ST
FLUSHING, NY

FWIW, I think "John Holmes" is just an alias he uses to hide the fact that he has a little richard.

You seem to want to chime in when I post. The post was meant comically. I would notify the police and the post office as I already mentioned earlier.

However, if I received no satisfaction through legal channels and it were my $4300; I would pay someone $1000 to catch him at his house, yes.

Bad advice in my opinion.

If you're going to do something, don't say you're going to do it. Don't even say you would do it. Don't suggest it in an email. Don't have someone else do a dirty deed for you. Do the deed yourself? You're the only one who might keep a secret.

Most people will squeal like a stuck pig if they are even threatened with incarceration.

This quasi-legal advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

JoeyA

You gotta' do something... and fast. I'd start with calling your local post office, the PO receiving the cue, your local police, the Flushing police, your local DA's office, and anyone else you can think of. Maybe you'll get lucky. I hope so.

Awesome!!!

MM...btw what kind of discount could you give me on that Scruggs you almost threw away?!?;)

The Post Office isn't going to do anything! Believe me.

MikeM said:
The closest PO to that address is at 4165 Main Street Flushing.

Tommy at this point I'd first call that post office and tell them you think you have a problem with a bad address and ask them to return the shipment to you until you get a good address.

The number to that PO is 718-321-6890.

Good luck.

Mike

I have many experiences too long to get into here, but, I can guarantee you one thing for sure. THE POST OFFICE IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING.

He can go in there and have the mail transferred/delivered to another PO box or address and you will never see him. You might as well figure this cue is gone.
