mosconi cup is coming up and its got me thinking.
i havent played all the events this year that i could ,so making the team on points is gonna be close.
im gonna get lit up for this but i think earl is such an embarrassment for america and the team that im going to vomit if hes there again.
earl has treated me like a jerk my whole career and frankly im not going out of my way to not tell it like it is.
i want to make the team badly this year for several reasons , not unlike all the other players and feel that im playing good and will not make the team or usa look bad, and will help us play well because we get along and respect each other.

that being said if im picked and do not earn my way on from points im going to donate a 1000 if we lose and 2000 if we win to the bca billiards for youth foundation.

im not grandstanding or trying to bribe my way on team ,ok maybe a little lol,but if im fortunate enough to be on team i will gladly give some back to help pool .i think anybody who makes team should do the same but hey that jmho.

I have to ask though, has ES ever been nice to anyone (lol)?
 
Class, dignity, and tested ability under pressure. That is what we need to win the cup - and you epitomize all of those attributes. Best of luck, I hope they make the right choice!

Hello John- good luck ,you do deserve to be on the team-for other reasons than points. 1 question are you healthy? meaning didn't I see something about a broken arm- or was it bs. Hope all is well - keep on keepin on. Even the money matches on Tar- have helped toughen you up. Mark

GL to you man, I'd like to see you make the team. I think you deserve to be chosen based on your accomplishments.......but a little bribery never hurt.:p

John, I admire your intense desire to make the team. It seems (to me) unfortunate that the selection criteria came out so late. Had you known this criteria earlier, might you have played more events in a genuine attempt to make the team?

I suspect your MCup criticism here of Earl is going to draw mixed reviews. Perhaps not so much on the basis, but for how it's been delivered.

Good luck making the team John. I firmly believe you could be our super glue in the team chemistry department.

I believe the vast majority of the US fans now want a W more than a borderline pick on the team.

I do agree Earl's behavior has made the USA team look bad on many occasions but Earl is also one of the reasons why so many people will want to watch. The controversy he brings is something the promoters want, like the time Earl was giving a bunch of crap to the hot referee. It was boorish and very embarrassing for the American team but the promoters thought it was the nuts.

I was at the Carolina's OPen one year and he saw me walking down the street to the Hotel and he asked if I needed a ride...I told him there was no friggin way I was getting in a corvette with his crazy ass behind the wheel and I'd rather inchworm my way down the hot pavement for the 3 miles than do so..

OK, so the blue part is a lie. And I was not walking coz I was cheap!

You would be a great addition to the USA Team. I hope you get on the team and I hope you have have to donate a lot of money to the BCA Billiards for youth foundation!! I want to see the USA win the Cup!

John, I wish you luck. You and I have had a word or two on here and I still feel you are a great ambassador for our game. I think you could have left out any suggestion of who you might have booted off the team ... but oh well.

I think almost everyone will agree. I believe 90+% of people who have been around pool in the last three years would have to agree about Earl. I hate that it has come to this, but it should be no shock to anyone - especially Earl as it is his actions and attitude that have given us this opinion.

That being said, I think you would be best served to remove Earl's name from your post and just state that you feel you are more deserving than at least one or more of the current members.

i agree, it's not like we wouldn't WHO you were talking about. There is no doubt that Earl is a bit of a freak(and one helluva player) But he does put asses in the seats. Perhaps if the refs and TD could control some of the antagonizing, earl could (have) keep it together. And it wasn't just the Fans taunting and provoking him. The European players seemed to play a role in getting him riled up. The pacifier was funny but TOTALLY OUT OF LINE imo Either way you're a fine play John and I wish you the best.

John,

I do hope you make the team, and help bring home a win. The donation is a GREAT gesture, and shows that you care about the sport. BUT, rooting against Earl being there (even though your reasons are valid to some) is not in good form. I respect your opinion, your game, and think you are an all around good guy, but Earl (in my eyes) only hurts Earl with his behavior. I know that he is/was part of a team, but his antics don't really reflect that of the rest of the team, and I think most (the opposition) get that. Teams in many sports have guys that don't behave the best, and though this is a team event, it is very much an individual sport. If Earl can help the team on the table he should be there, and if he does anything to embarrass the team with his behavior, his teammates should make that known...then and there. But, like I said, I think one's antics do not represent the entire team or the US. If he makes an A$$ out of himself, then he is the A$$...

I know many will disagree with that, but I've had teammates that were outspoken, brash, and through fits at times, and I never thought their behavior reflected poorly on me personally....so, again, good luck, I hope you make it and represent us the way I think you will. Good on you for the donation. If Earl is on the team with you, let him know how you feel about his antics, and if he ignores you, you did what you could....
 
John you have definately been playing real good in the past 12 months or so. I was impressed with your performance at the last DCC. I know if you were picked you would put in some extra practice time to make sure your game was at an even higher notch than it has been. That being said I definately see you as a possible ringer for the MCup. Good luck and I hope it works out!

Oh and the donation is a great way to show that pros do care about pool and the millions of others who play. I like your thinking!
 
I've always heard that Earl truly is Bi-Polar and can't fade any BS when he's not taking his meds like he should. Whether this is fact or fiction I really don't care about. There is one fact that I do know, Earl can play play. Earl is a legend thats not all that far removed from his prime. He still can have long flashes of that scary gear he has. I think without Earl on the team...there is no team! Earl is a fixture on our squad and he produces every single year. Being a nice guy is not a requirement, last I checked. If it's close at the end, I think you and Earl should play a race to 50 for the spot.

I'd like to see some of the other Mosconi Cup guys weigh in on this topic. JS is a great player for sure and well deserving of a shot on the team, but Earl is the Mosconi Cup as far as I and lots of others are concerned.
