THROWING A PENALTY FLAG ON THIS PLAY
STOP PLEASE.
Eric, you are not going to do this. We all know you are not going to do this, you even say you wouldn't do this, why use it as an empty threat?
If there was a business model you found attractive in pool, you'd be in the pool biz.
You yourself have claimed that being in Vegas was one of BB's biggest mistakes. Yet here you are now claiming you'd go into a business you know is ill-fated all in order to hurt TAR? Why because you hurt Justin's feelings with the way you worded something and he was bad enough to illustrate that to you?
I guess building a business to compete with one of the good things in pool, all in order to hurt a guy because he reacted a way you didn't like is one option (or more precisely, THREATENING to do that rather than actually doing it). I mean please, the guy is in the pool business. You are saying that guys in that business are dumb. How do you expect him to react? Thank you ? I read it as a guy telling you your words had power and letting you know how people in the pool biz feel when they read those words.
Here's another possible response (not telling you how to act, just saying here's one of many alternative reactions to what he said). Take a look at what Justin said. Take a look at the words you said that made him react that way. Put yourself in his shoes. See how the way he reacted could makes sense, regardless of what your intent was. And apologize.
Just saying.
Kevin
WAVING MY ARMS IN THAT CONTINUE PLAY MOTION
Kevin,
your correct I did and still say BB made a HUGE error in setting up shop in Vegas, from a operations stand point and if they intend on making $$$. If they have a different agenda then Vegas is a genius move. I dont know their intentions so i cant speak for them.
For myself If I was going to do something in pool to make $$$ I'd be in Tx or Fl because there is no State income tax, Mark Griffen is VERY smart with CSI inc, being HQ in Vegas for that reason and the summer league stuff. He is positioned very well, and his partner in Diamond tables is scary smart, he is the only guy who can fabricate tables and be profitable in America-thats beyond amazing, Olhausen had problems OSCHA, environmental issues makes doing any manufacturing in America almost impossible and Greg figured it all out. That impresses me.
Those 2 guys right there I respect, and the absolute last thing i'd do in pool is piss on them, i'd embrace them. True I perfer to play on a GC, but if I did anything pool in America I'd use Diamond products. period.
When Mark got in with JCIN that also influenced me not to do a studio in Vegas, its not like i can rent the space out, so it sits. But lets say I stay pissed at JCIN forever-which I won't. And did flip the switch, i only been in pool since 85 so i could pull off the streaming biz, maybe not as good as TAR. What would I accomplish? The real loss would be damaging TAR and Griffen, JCIN is tough he will be fine. Its a scumbag move. and i'd suffer long term damage to my reputation , sure some people hate me, or disagree with me and thats cool let them i'm always open to a counter point, i learn when i'm wrong. Point is i'm shitting where I eat if I open the studio I have and knock off TAR(as in copy) i aint putting anyone out of biz, thats just dumb to think that way, sure i say dumb things when i'm mad-i think we all do. so for that yes-i'm sorry! sincerely sorry.
I was going to make it a pool school that instructors could use for like 15%-20% of what they charge their students. I have a 12'X8' mirror thats in there and another huge one, so it would be good for instructors. Like Max for example, he is a good friend, he lived at my house for 6 months i think, point is I trust him, 100%. If I gave him keys and asked for 15% to cover costs-i'd bet he would got for it and he don't pay table time, neither would the students. The reason I didnt do that is because I dont want the responsibility of having that and insurance i'd need-see i need insurance for farting, cause when you have $ your a target for fraudulent claims, thats a ongoing thing in my life. to this day. having any $ requires lots of responsibility, it aint easy as it looks. Sure its worth it, if it wasnt i'd donate everything to charity.
So "Fatboy's Pro Billiard Academy" could happen , i wouldnt be a instructor-LOL, thats for sure. but I know I could get lots of qualified instructors who could use the tables, mirrors for 15%, And the students would benefit. If I was in Vegas I'd be on that, I wish I had a spot in LA to do that, but the rents are too brutal and there is not the instructors or students that Vegas draws. That would be a viable biz in Vegas, if I wanted to make $$$ I'd kick it up to 22.5% on the first $1000/mo each instructor charges. Then drop the rake on the rest of their monthly income, i'd do it on the honor system too. Why? I believe the instructors wouldnt shit where they eat-a turn key pool room with no charges except the rake on their fee's-students are free as well. That the nice part of OWNING the building. I'd also lay out biz plans and packages to fly students in for a week etc like RandyG does(to help my instructors sell more time and benefit their students). But before I even did that biz, I'd fly to RandyG's school, pay him for a weeks lessons and discuss my biz plan with diplomacy. Thats the correct way to set up a biz. If RandyG had a problem or Scott Lee or CJ or Neil or Stan Shuffet, i'd do my best to iron it out with them before-stepping on toes. Cause they are the guys(if I left someone off the list-sorry), and furthermore I would contact them and not make this post, IF is was a real plan. Its out-of-pocket to do biz like this on AZB IMO.
Am I sounding like JB?
Sorry JB-just bustin' balls, had to lighten up the mood,
best
eric
PS: I'll lay 50-1 Bartrum never makes a post this long.
