Ever do any self analysis trying to figure out what one thing would improve your Pool Game maybe 200% or more.

I know my main weakness, but am still trying to figure out how to get over this hurdle!

Easy for me to know the fix, kinda tough to do. If anyone knows how to make me 30 years younger give me a shout!

I couldn't agree more. My stroke is all over the place lately. I've been shooting like a newborn baby for about two weeks now...

As for playing better players: the other day I couldn't run two in a row to save my life. We asked a lvl7 to join us in a game of Cut Throat, much to my chagrin, and suddenly I got serious about my game.... can't say I beat either one of them, but I did experience a 'change' in my 'luck'.

Mental

I admit that my stroke does need work on consistency, but I would say my mental game needs the most work. I can't seem to get past the frustrating moments where you only get about 6 shots in 4 games and they are all shots where you are just trying to make a good hit and usually have to hit a couple of rails just to get to the ball. Then you make a good hit and leave your opponent straight in. The same opponent who has been lucky enough after every miss to leave you bad. I can handle and respect a good defense, but repeated lucky leaves kill me!

Position

position, position, position. How to do this so i wont have to force whitey to my next ball. Its not about position for easier shot, its about postion for an easier positon. Just cant drive that into my head:confused:

I need to practice more and play under pressure more . That and prob. my biggest downfall is I keep changing cues and shafts so I am always adjusting . I know I need to stick with one cue and get used to it but its hard to resist the temptation . When I first started switching cues a few years ago I thought I would find the holy grail of cues and play with that cue for ever . Since then I have tried many many cues that all were great playing cues that would have worked just fine . I am now convinced that a person can play good with just about any well built cue given a little time to get used to the way that cue hits . So that is my advise find a cue you like and stick with it .

Keep your body STILL! That's all. Quiet everything when you're shooting. Stay calm and relaxed and you will definitely play better.

Discipline. If I only had more discipline. I truly believe that's what separates the players from the top down.

never miss another shot, that'd do it. If I had zero missed shots my game would improve a TON. I can play decent safeties, get my shape more often than not, but even if I miss once every couple of games.....that equals losses. Usually it's because I'm so worried about the next shot, and the shape is great - but I'll jaw the object ball trying to cheat a pocket or something to get that good position. All the things mentioned above are great, but a repeatable stroke, staying down, or still, controlling the cueball etc. only matter if you make the shot.

straight stroke is probably the right answer, but I really want to work on kicking. I look competitive in 9 ball up until the first time I get hooked, then I look really dumb when I miss super easy kicks.

your stroke works just fine, its not a traditional looking stroke but like Mike Davis you make it work real good. i agree playing more often is great when there is time, its nice to be able to play.

I would need to play in alot more tournaments, play alot more money matches, and generally just play good players alot more then I do at this point in my life.

I used to complete ALOT more then I do these days and while my playing ability was only marginally above how I can shoot today when I am just practicing my ability to play that well under the pressure of competition is a fraction of what it used to be.

I do get flashbacks once in a while in tournaments, but what are flashbacks for me today used to be alot closer to my normal game when the pressure was on.

It is all about being out there playing as much as possible against quality opponent after quality opponent in matches you don't want to lose. Eventually you build the mental eqivalent of calluses that harden you against the nerves and jitters that players who are not used to pressure pool usually succumb to.

Confidence.
I second (or third) guess way too many shots, and give up too many shots as a result of it. THe difference in a 7-8 ball run and a 6 ball run.
If you're going to clear balls, then clear balls, otherwise it's just an open freeway for your opponent to run out with.

But if I could do just one thing to improve my game at least 200%...... make Archer take me on the road for a year!lol

I believe the real secret in improving is with the assistance of an experienced instructor.

Being able to say with the mental part of the game 111% of the time.
