Just had it made, Cocobolo butt, forearm reversed BE maple and cocobolo
with 4 points, White w/brown specs Irish linen wrap, cocobolo/be maple rings
at all positions. 2 shafts Maple, weighs 18.6 oz. 13 mm tips with pressed triangle
tips.
In the process of getting know each other at present. Made by Wes Hunter of
Hunter Classic Cues.
For me that's easy. I had the same cue made for me by a number of cue makers. Willie Hoppie style four Ebony point butt with veneers, Rambow style butt cap. Once I got away from steel joints like more then 40 years ago I used ivory joints.
Today that would be phenolic. Flat faced joint, first one I played with was a Martin and that was it. Sleeved ferrule, not capped. Tip on shaft end grain.
For the maker, if Scruggs was still alive he would have the job. Today, Barry Szamboti. or Joel Hercek
I have an idea for a snooker-style cue using woods similar to the markings of a pheasant. I had this idea when it occurred to me that the tail is reminiscent of the grain/chevrons on the shaft of an ash cue.
I have a cuemaker in mind for the project, and the cue will be called The Pheasant Plucker. I haven't decided on all the woods to use yet, but the chest will probably be snakewood.
.
I have mine as well. After owning many others I went with a cue by Dave Kikel. My design, my specifications built by Dave on time, on budget.. With zero drama, cause he is a professional or was, I hear he may have retired...
I think I would like to have the fake Balabushka that Tom Cruise used in The Color of Money. That way I can smack him across the head with it. God I hated seeing him twirl that cue around like he was some baton twirling ninja cheerleader.
It was offered to me before it was to the fella who now owns it , it's Frank McGowan's Balabuskha cue that George made for him complete with extra shafts .
To watch Frank play with it was inspiring to say the least .
No I won't go ask the owner if he's willing to sell it if he hasn't sold it already.
My (2) SP8RWs are as close as I have seen to the cue I want to be seen with and playing with. Both elegant and plain at the same time.
Now, if I were have a custom cue made, I would do something with 6 points each point having 6 veneers {Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet} each veneer separated with a thin piece of black paper, Wood-to-wood Uniloc joint, no wrap. Shaft would have a pro taper, an 11.0mm tip with a 0.35" ferule of some white plastic material.
