If you could recast The Color of Money...

Justin Bieber as Vince

Senator Barney Frank as Fast Barney

No longer any need for the hot chicka character

Yes, there would be some significant plot changes. Mostly to do with Vince trying desperately to get some distance between Fast Barney and himself, but he has no money and nothing else of value either, other than his grandfathers vintage McDermott D-44 Chameleon cue which possesses a magical power that allows him (Vince) to change his physical appearance just enough to stay barely ahead of the zombie-like, ultra persistant, Fast Barney.

It's like a 2 hour human chase scene (ala The Fugitive) with Vincent having to matchup way over his ever-changing, pretty little head, and, miraculously, winning just enough of these matches to stay ahead of the doggedly, persistent, Fast Barney.

Fast Barney has a wide network of informants on his payroll (Jude Rosenstock, Maniac, pt109, JoeyA, & justadub to name a few) who keep him in close pursuit but the magical powers bestowed upon Vincent by way of Grandpappy's McChameleon cue prove formidable. In fact, in one scene, Bieber (Vince) is completely unrecognizable with, get this, his hair combed straight back.

Then, the coups de gras, in an absolutely brilliant and unexpected twist btw, is when . . . what's that? Oh crap, the nurses are saying my time is up on the computer - it's time for my sponge bath now.

Best,
Brian kc

King Pin was a spoof, and I rather have a sequel than a remake of The Color of Money. Knowing Hollywood, the remake would probably be directed by Michael Bay and would include lots of explosions.

Here is my story idea of a sequel. Vincent, Tom Cruise's character, after a long career on the 9-ball circuit retires and buys himself pool bar league franchise. His bar league is so successful, he has a full staff of people just to process the weekly score sheets.

To keep his payouts, eh expenses even lower, he awards two trips to the nationals in Las Vegas ever since he started his bi-cup format.

Mars Callahan's character Johnny Doyle, after winning big from Pool Hall Junkies has gone back to selling RV in order keep his girlfriend happy. He plays on his brother's bar league team as a SL 4, and with his help they win the trip to Las Vegas.

As a scene homage to the Color of Money, Vincent takes a cue, screws it together and throws it to Mars Callahan. He tells Johnny, Mars' character that its a Balabushka given to him by Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman).

Out in Las Vegas Johnny's team loses in the first round. They're flat broke and can't even afford the buffet at the Peppermill. Desperate for money, he takes the Balabushka to the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. They're filming PawnStars that day, so he's hoping Rick Harrison, the owner will personally takes care of him. Instead he gets waited on by Chumley, who looks up the 3rd edition of the Blue Book and identifies it as a Joss N7 and only offers him $300 bucks, despite Johnny insisting its a Balabushka.

Dejected, while still lingering in the pawn shop he sees they they have 6 cases of Pre-Flag Masters for $25 a case. The dry desert air has kept the moisture level to a minimum, so they play just as good back then as now. He buys them, covers each chalk cube with new stickers calling them Fast Eddie Felson's own, complete with mug shot and inscribed as version .97). Using every trick from selling RVs, he's able to sell each cube for $25 a piece. Earning enough to pay for his team to have a good time in Las Vegas and fly home.

The End

i thonk you're on to something big here!!! who's playing Johny Doyle?

Decaf

Some of you out there need to switch to...DECAF! It has been an interesting excercise. It is also nice to see that the majority seems to agree that it could have been a much better movie with a change of cast and some script tweaks.

I like the idea of a comedy where two likable but weird hustlers set out to make scores and live the high life doing every weasel tactic on the way but end up at a huge tournament with the potential to go legit and quell some inner demons.

The Hustler was under-appreciated.

The original 'True Grit' held my attention for about fifteen minutes. John Wayne couldn't act his way out of a closet even with John Ford's brilliant directing. He could swagger and had a distinctive attitude, tho.

TCOM was a subpar movie that had a good premise. The Hustler was about the growth of a young man with inner demons. This was mirrored by Piper's crippled alcoholic portrayal of his love interest (meal ticket at first). TCOM was about the decline of the American male. This was shown by Vincent who had no respect, discipline or ambition and contrasted by Newman being the successful, but hollow man rediscovering a love--a love that was showing it's age and was different than he remembered, coming to grips with the fact that his love had changed and discovering that he could love it again.

Revamping TCOM has potential to be a great movie. It wouldn't be the same and done right could be a classic. I think it would still have to be set in the eighties.

dld

I agree with you on all counts. Newman said that "The Hustler" was his best performance. He and Piper Laurie should have both won Oscars for their roles. Being from that era, I could really relate to the portrayal of the pool world back then. The only drawback was the character of "Fats", which worked well for the movie, but was of course nothing like the "real" Fats (New York Fats).
TCOM was very disappointing, other than Newman's acting which, while not his best, was still better than the rest of the cast. Cruise was awful in an awful role. In real life, Eddie would have dumped Vincent after his first or second screw-up, rather than give him "one more chance" about five times...
The only good thing about TCOM was seeing all the players.
Believable pool movies may not be a possibility nowadays, as their seem to be no directors in Hollywood who know anything about pool...

The movie was bad enough, lets make it worse.

I tell ya. It would be real hard to find anyone to play the Eddy role better than Paul Neman. He nailed that role.

Edward Norton or Robert downey jr as Vince
And Robert de niro as Paul character, am surprise no one mention Robert de niro so far.

Having grown up watching the GREAT ACTOR & ACTRESSES on the BIG SCREEN IMHO these people had TALENT, and did not need computer aided graphics, fancy stunts, and who the whoopla that make today block buster hits where this need breed of actor does not have the talent of say.

Robert Denero

Robert Duval

John Wayne

Charleston Heston

Betty Davis

and the list could go on, and on.

JMHO.

Morgan Freeman would make a good Eddie.

And DeCapprio as Vincent. Add in Mila Kunis and it's a box office smash.

How can you people not see Johnny Depp playing the part of Vince?

Do they get any flakier than some of the characters he plays???

Maniac

I'm diggin' it, but he's too old today I think.

I'm thinking obviously Tim Burton is the director and the whole film is very dark... maybe always raining. And back to B&W.

On the other note, I love the idea to make a movie close to the book, but two issues: The book wasn't all that great a read (IMHO) and what title do you give the movie?

Recasting

I think I would cast Mark Wahlberg in the role of Vince, and although I like the idea of Morgan Freeman (one of my favorite actors), I would cast Al Pacino in the role of Eddie (to add some spark to the movie as only Pacino can do).

i would like to hand everything over to quentin tarantino and tell him to just go easy on the killings and see what he turns out

my three versions

Ryan_Gosling.jpg
I think Clint wood make a great tougher street wise version of Eddie and Ryan Gosling is about the right age and caliber to play a much better believable Vincent than Cruise did .

I've also had a few thoughts about a black version of the Color of Money and I always thought Bernie Mac would of been a great black Eddie ,I could hear him barking now (I miss B man ALOT !!) .T.I. was great in the ATL movie and could be a cool ,smoother version of Vincent .
Alot of these are good ,I like the Morgan Freeman idea and the funny Will Ferrel ideas alot .

Snooker Version ......I said I had 3

I could not post but 4 pics in the last thread . I think this could be a good cast for a snooker version

Michael Cain is a great actor , I sorta think ol Harry Potter would sorta ad a bit of humor to it .
Of course I did not forget the ladies .You could use either of these women in any of the three combos and it would work .Rosalyn Sanchez is a little older than Megan Fox but can hold her own ......wait she would hurt ol Harry Potter :rotflmao1:

No vincent...instead... a different character who is a natural at pool but hates hustling because he feels hez robbing people of their hard earned money. However he has the need (for whatever reason) so he struggles with that decision. This character could be played by ? Foster (I think his name is Ben but not sure) 'guy from 3:10 to yuma' 'the messenger' or Ryan Gosseling as previously suggested.

Ofcourse there would have to be a mark included as well where they make the audience relate to him and sympathize with him so therez some drama to the whole thing ;)

Cast of Color of Money

Fast Eddie Felson = Efren Reyes or Ewa Mataya Laurance
Vincent Lauria = Jennifer Barretta or Jeanette Lee
Carmen = Ga Young Kim

Now THIS is a great idea. Screw remaking TCOM. Remakes are retarded.

Gotta be a fat/skinny combo for all the cliche jokes: Jonah Hill and James Marsden will headline. Johnny Depp will be the main antagonist as a fish, hell bent on revenge, following the duo around the country with his motorcycle gang. In the end, our main characters will run into Flyin' Ryan, famed champion of Idaho. They are surprised to find out that Flyin' Ryan is actually a smoking hot chick (played by whoever hot chick you want). Stay tuned for the ending...

Wow, time is not a friend to Tom Cruise. Seriously, when this movie came out, Cruise could do no wrong. I firmly believe the COM boom begins and ends with how popular Tom Cruise was in the 80s. Now, nobody can get past his shit-eating grins.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol starring Tom Cruise 2011 Worldwide Gross 700 Million (I wish I was that unpopular)

Reading the thread the other day about Pool Hall Junkies and how some people liked it and others hated it, got me to thinking about The Color of Money cast and what would you do different if it was your choice to remake the movie The Color of Money?

Here is the deal, money is no object and any star you ask will say yes. Who would you put in the roles? You still want to make a great movie so we will leave people like Earl to cameos. But the main cast is wide open.

What about Johnny Depp doing his drunken Captain Jack Sparrow around the pool table in the role of Vincent? Or Anthony Hopkins being cold and calculated, as in Silence of the Lambs style, while working the angles as Fast Eddie? Who would you put in the role of Carmen?

I would begin by using the book rather than just the title.

the movie tried to give people an insider look at what they percieve is really going on-"hustling all the time"what would make a simply good movie if pool had to be used is the real climb from the bottom to the middle.a solid climb from c player to middle level pro with one big win-but the twist is showing how hard it is to generate any real money playing at the higher levels, meaning you can have the grinder working and practicing getting better all the time trying to gamble and win(local tourneys) his way to some kind of respectabilty while there is an antagonist character trying to tell him hes waisting his time and showing both sides of the coin(the antagonist can be forever stalling).the big finale can be something other than the win,it can be the aftermath like he gets home from winning some kinda dragon promo event and realizes he doesnt have enough money to make it two weeks -you could add a little happy twist like the antagonist leaving him an envelope saying thanks i knew you could do it......maybe leave the window open from there
