Last night in leauge my son grabbed the good chalk cubes we brought to use during his match and since the only stuff around was dug in almost to the paper, I just starting shooting around without chalk.

For 4 full racks. I used spin, I hit hard, just regular games.

In 4 racks I think I ended up with 3 miscues on the last game and that was probably because I got lazy with the stoke.

People say Kamui chalk is great becasue you can use less, well if you like to play without much chalking, try the Ki-Tech tips because my soft did just fine without putting any chalk on it for quite a while.

Have been trying to push this tip out in my country to the pool players but no good results. Mainstream tips are the winners in my country.

I put the soft on my cue about a week or so ago. Played around on my table for a few days getting right with a new tip and how it works and all. Two days ago I lost count of how many I ran in straight pool with it--it was well over 100 and made shots out of no where--I hadn't done that in almost a year--and never strang that many with the Kamuia on there--
I'm likeing them just fine--got me working hard on my game again--

I am going to try them again. Ren got ahold of me and asked if I wanted to.

I said yes because I didn't give the first tip a long enuff fair try out.

So my review on them wasn't worth a crap in other words. And, I also felt kinda shitty about my review. With the amount of tips that I stock and try out, I could have been more professional than I was about it.

I am one of those people that resist change in some areas. So, when I change a tip, I shouldn't be like that but I was and didn't get to try the tip out for the length of time that was needed to see what was happening.

I get all comfy in my own little world and sometimes resist change even tho it will do me good in the long run. Not just a tip thing. Hahaha.

I believe that Ren has also made some changes from the original tips so actually looking forward to using them as League Season is upon us here.

Anyone that has put that much work and study into building a good playing tip, along with some of his other projects and experiments has to be onto something.

Can you believe that at one time, I hated the thought of putting Sour Cream on a Perogie. Now, I won't eat a perogie without it.

Yeah, same with Turnips. I didn't like the color or texture. I was missing out.

Still won't eat that sweet Jello crap that people put out at Christmas time tho.

just got my sampler pack in the mail yesterday and having the soft put on today! I'm salivating!. my kamui clear medium was starting to "harden" and glaze over after every session. I ordered on monday and got it on Friday, service doesn't get much better than that! :grin-square:

If Ren sends me one, it will be replacing a Black Kamui soft.

I had tried the Brown SS and S before. Done in approx one month.

I got a couple of HXT shafts with the Black soft. Still have to shape them more than I would like to to but feel that there was much better performance.

Re Glazing. I don't feel that a tip should have to be scuffed as much as I have had to with the Kamui tips.

Every Dog has thier day and I believe that Kamui has had theirs. Much better tips available these days.

Great Tips

I got the sampler pack....I'm not a fan of the soft but the medium and hard are 2 of the best tips I've ever used. I'll be ordering more.

I ordered 5 soft tips and had Bob Frey install them and they expanded during the install. Is this typical? The tip now wiggles side to side.

I had a soft put on and I have had no problems. Not even mushrooming.
Maybe my tip installer person is better.

had my medium put on yesterday. it seems to be the "hit" is a little harder than the kamui clear medium I took off but control I think is as good. not much time yesterday though, I will put it thru it's paces this afternoon for a few hours playing in a match. after today I will decide weather or not to switch to the soft.

I only had one installed but it had no issues at all. Mike Webb did mine but I don't see Bob Frey being any worse at installing tips. I have not had to burninsh or shape the tip since it was installed.

If it wiggles and expanded he got them hot... Likely used a regular chisel or the razor blade was not new... Shoot me a PM and I will replace them... Bob likely had not seen them before and just installed them as he normally would so I cannot fault him... The fibers don't like heat and if the blade/chisel is dull they will bind and tear instead of cutting properly....

I've had the same problems with a few of the ki-techs. They seem harder to burnish than other tips. So if you keep trying to get it glossy with more liquid and heat they seem to stretch almost and get springy. I had a soft do that and then it was horrible after that. Just seemed to absorb the energy because it was like a sponge. I believe coating the sides with a sharpie helps to burnish it to a glossy finish. These tips are still in my top 5 for sure. And it's funny my top tips are none of the big name brands. Chris was supposedly formulating a good burnishing liquid so I'm sure that'll make these tips even better.

I'm a block leather person and Chris's tip is by far one of the nicest and most solid hitting tip I've struck with. I have them all on my playing shafts and hell even on my snooker cue.

They do burnish but not the glossy kind. Like what Chris have mentioned, you do need a new blade for every of his tip, sometimes even 2 blades for a tip.

Here is a soft that was done with a new razorblade and wet burnished....

Looks like it's Dime-shape, Chris. Have you tested Dime vs. Nickel and found Dime to produce maximal performance (within each of the S, M, and H tip ranges) and perhaps personally recommend or lean towards using a Dime tip geometry?

I'm curious.... what was your favorite tip before trying these?

Reason is, I tried the Soft, and it may be too soft for me. I've usually play kamui black ss(trimmed way down).I need to get a good durometer , cause I'm thinking it is closer to soft/med.
I've switched to the K-Tech med, and it seems like It's closer to my liking.

These are great tips....:clapping:

Chris,

I have a new OB Pro Plus shaft coming on Wednesday so I can finally start trying out different tips. First on my list is your medium. So I'm wondering now...This is pretty much my process for trimming...let me know if you think I will have issues.

1) Once glue has dried, use lathe facing tool to basically cut off excess tip on the sides. I basically take about 3-4 passes, with the last pass being right up close to the ferrule and on auto feed. I honestly don't know how sharp my lathe tool is. It has probably cut of a couple hundred tips this way.

2) I have a different lathe tool that basically allows me to cut about 45 degrees to the face of the work. I use this to take the corners of the tip off quickly. Then I use a very sharp utility blade to turn that into a rounded shape, approximately a nickel.

3) I use the blade to trim the sides of the tip right up to the ferrule. I cut the sides of the tip ever so slightly cone-shaped. So like the crown end of the tip is a tiny fraction of a mm smaller than the ferrule end. Most people would barely notice, even looking closely. I find this helps eliminate mushrooming.

4) I clean up the sides of the tip with a quick hit of 400 or so sandpaper, then 600, then 2000 to burnish. I use some spit to wet burnish it. Seals the sides of the tip nicely without too much heat. I might finish off with a paper towel or a piece of leather to really make it shine. No much heat though. I always put my finger on the tip and if my finger can't take the heat, then I back off.

Sound ok?

LMK because I'm dying to try your tip out and want to get all I can out of it.

Thanks,

KMRUNOUT
