Yeah thats right!!! To write a book. All these great posts are wonderful but they just fade away after a while, before you get too old ;) and your memorie fades, get going on a book!!!!. I'd bankroll that in a quick minute, I promis you that if properly titled and packaged it would or could cross over to main stream people, a look into the dark side or something but more positive, accounts of players, hustlers, cons, good guys, what being a player is like at all levels, tournments etc.You have it down cold my friend, nobody could do it good as you, and what you dont know you know the people who do to keep it right not fiction.

Let me do the book cover art

Let me do the book cover art, if you pursue this. I plan to submit some more free art soon, and I'm just learning how to
get "dust in the air" to look good. Keep me in mind...

Thanks Whitey. Sounds good. I'll send you a PM with my plans for this book.
And thank you Fatboy for the encouragement. I tend to be lazy at this point in my life, and need all the encouragement I can get.

Jay on the square, if we record conversations between you and I hell we can get a writer to do the hard part then you can clean it up but it would get the ball rolling it would be a shame not to consolidate all this history and share it with the world. It could be done easily, whan I get back from Germany we can make a plan. We just turn on the recorder and talk, were both good at that, we can write an outline and then decide what were gonna talk about, I've been around in the mid 80's to 94 and saw alot and remember it well.

there are a million things we could do with this.

thinking about it, we could do a series of books and release one every 6 months, I know alot about marketing, thats what bankrolls my life and how we/market the books is key to making $$$, just one big fat book written for a nitch market isnt the way foward. and you know as well as I that it could be 100% truthful and NOT be boaring to people who dont even know about pool, hell look at poker the general public grabbed on to that like ducks to water, are we going to save pool, no but it could make $$$, and archive some wonderful times and bad times too.

I'll send you an email daily if that will get'r done! ... (fine line between encouragement and harrassment :D ) I dammed sure would love to read your book Jay. I actively look for your posts on any/every topic just to get the inside word from a guy with integrity... and that's the line on you.

Jay,
With you being the stand-up guy you are as far as paying up on bets and the like, what if a few of us prepay for an upcoming book? That way you'll be obligated and motivated to not let us down. Just a thought.

Hell, I'll prepay for two. One to read, and one to have autographed and sit on the mantle.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat! But I hope it wouldn't mean the end of seeing Jay's tales on here.

That is a great idea. Freddy did a great job with Gospool, lots of good reads and great pics and illustrated shots. I like format he used, maybe you should get with him as far as how to put it together and how to get it published and distributed.:)

Jay,
You write well, especially as it relates to pool. You understand pool and it's patrons as well as anyone and you still have the fire burning inside for the Sirens of the Green Felt.

My son asked me to write a book about our family's life a couple of years ago. It is a unique story especially about my grandfather who survived the Great Hurricane of 1900 in Galveston, TX. And at first it was difficult to get started but what I decided to do was to write in Chapters and finish off one section at a time. I might go for months without writing a single word then when the mood strikes me, I crank out a lot of memories of THE FAMILY. There were difficulties in writing continuously because I am not a trained writer but the words flow when they flow and I don't try to push it except to finish one chapter at a time. Writing about anything can be kind of therapeutic in many ways. There is a satisfaction that comes with knowing that someone down the road will at least know the story of our family's history as recorded by one of us. If you haven't already started typing, get to it.

You have a talent for writing and you have witnessed many things that pool addicts would love to have seen. You are also savvy enough to not believe everything that you have seen and heard, yet young enough to remember many of the details of what you experienced and saw first hand.
Good luck,
JoeyA

How about "9-balls of fury" for a title ? if the book concerns nine ball
" A Hole in 1" for 1 pocket.
those are the ones I've come up with as of the moment.

Thanks, but NO prepays please. I have a lot of work to do first.
Don't worry about me. I'm not missing any meals.

How about "A Brief History Of The Modern Era Of Pool". This would begin in 1961, the year The Hustler came out, and when I got started in pool as a young'un. And move forward to present day. Whatcha think gang?

I like it!! Put me down for one when you're through with it. :D

That sounds good, but I think the scope would end up being much broader than just pool. With all of your experience in so many aspects (tournaments, palyers, gambling, the road, hustles, cheats, scams) it would seem that calling it a history of just pool would be too limited. It would be awesome to see it done, not just for the pool niche, but as a mainstream read.

I agree and since Jay knew Louie Roberts, I think that would make a great story. A no punches pulled story about Louie's life would not only make a great book but a movie as well. A lot more there than just pool.

Book Title

Jay, the time line sounds great and would appeal to persons of all ages but the proposed title is vague, broad and covers far more than what one person experienced. Like all of us individually, our experiences are only one biased snapshot of a larger picture.

Your perspective however, is probably far broader than most pool aficiandos.

I think you should consider letting your "fans" on AZ offer titles for the book. It could be fun and generate interest as well as give you additional ideas.

While many of us know a great deal about what you write here, we can only assume that the book will be similarly written. You could elaborate what you are going to cover and from whose perspective and what you are trying to accomplish with the writing of the book and then AZ could respond with the collective "wisdom". :D :D

All of that is part of the history as I see it. I plan to make it far reaching.
