I'm Finally Happy With My Game

I can finally say that I am content with the level I have got to again at 73 years old. I know I could play more consistent if my table didn't change conditions every few hours. The table is on a screened patio in Tampa, FL., with some of the highest humidity in the country and way up there in rainfall. I have the Ridgeback rails on it with 4 1/4" pockets that say, "Not today Jose", when you just brush a rail or mouth of pocket in humid weather.

On a low humidity day I can beat the 9 ball ghost in race to 10 and the 10 ball ghost a little less than 2 out of 5, going to 10. I've now run 106 and 111 in 14.1 on it.

I know I can't get much better than this, but I'm very happy and proud to play this well again at my age and health issues. I want to thank Mark and the good Doctor for writing the road map to get there if you work it. JT

Mark should have player accounts of their success in the 2nd printing of the book. Congrats Johnnyt you should be the first one.

Thank you. I know I push the book too much on here, but I can't help it. I've read many books and DVD's and a big percentage of them have too much fluff and silver bullets in them. This book, if you work it, will get just about anyone there. JT

Wow! Great runs! I'd be very happy to play at that level at your age too. Definately something to be proud of.

Very impressive Johnny. I got the book a while back, but have not really dove head first into it. After recent struggles and setbacks, I've decided to study it cover to cover and get busy on my game. Thanks for the inspiration.

Congrats,,good playing. I'm having trouble getting motovated to play anymore. There's a room about 10 miles from me,,but getting up to go over there when I have my Brunswick in the basement just don't hit me right....Don't need action anymore,,but can still roll the ball well--ya got me by 10 years--hope that I can hold together that well...Keep Your Head Down And Follow Through:thumbup:

Johnnyt-

That sounds great - feels good doesn't it?
Wish I was happy with my game - might be that I have only played about 6 hours in the last 6 months!!

Congrats JT. Now that I am back working full time my game has gone down so much I have to cry myself to sleep every night......:crying::crying::crying:

Bravo, JohnnyT. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying pool as much as you do. A 100 ball on a really tight table is a very high standard indeed.

In about 2002, they put a silly tight table (about 4 1/8") in Corner Billiards in NYC. It was almost ten months before anybody ran 100 on it. The guy who managed a 107 on it was none other than Mika Immonen and he sounded damn proud of it when he told me about it, even though his high run on a looser table was, if memory serves, 267.

You are in good company.

Well I guess I am glad that I am a long ways north of you so I would not have to get whooped in tournaments by you. Hope to shoot as good as you someday soon, keep up the good work.;)

Thank you all for the kind words. Unlike most on here I have nothing but time to play...and I do. Also don't forget, this is a BB. JT

First Congrats bud ! I'm in 50s and started playing when I was 48. Little late in life but love the game and bought a table for the house. I'll second the book. Just the thing on the stance has raised my game significantly that and tightening up my bridge. Another element came into place the other day. Been trying tip after tip trying to find the right one that I could do what I wanted with the cueball. Some I liked (I thought) and some I disliked. I finally found "the one". Its a medium Ki-tech from outsville. Un frickin believable tip. With the pointers I have picked up from Mark's book and finally have the right equipment in my mind I'm now running racks of 8 ball. I don't play much rotation, some, but mainly 8 ball. Lovin life right now ! Congrats sir !

You should PM islandtime/Bob Hyde he's from Exuma Bahamas and frequents the peninsula once in awhile just to play and get off island he's rebooted his game after a 50 yr layoff....he's a good guy to trust and hang with, and an X Bonefish lodge owner there for twenty years or so.

Congratulations and God bless you. You are an inspiration to us older gentlemen and you have proved one can play well or improve at:) old age.

JohnnyT, humility will get you nowhere. In all my years around the game, you are the only player I can think of whose game went up while in his 70's.

You should feel very proud.

With high runs in the 100's, if you had to average your other runs, what would they be?

I don't really no. Never took an average of any amount of games. I can assure you I don't run 100 in 100 tries. I probably can run a 50 in 10 tries...I think. LOL. Next time it's dry out and I think of it I'll give it a try. You have me wondering now too. When I'm running along pretty good I seem to get careless on the 4th or 5th rack. I'd love to get a book or DVD of a good 14.1 player running 100 on a BB. IMO leaving the right ball for the good break shot is different on a BB. I learned a lot from John S. MR. 400, watching his videos. I've never got any bad advice about anything pool from John. I didn't run right out and buy gold and silver though. LOL JT
