The subject of one of my biggest complaints is rearing its ugly head, yet again.

Say our sport had a *World* event taking place and was even being televised.

And assume all involved including the players who were chosen all knew well ahead of the event that they were going to be there, playing for their country.

On the surface, it looks like a good promo for our sport and the exposure could be a big positive, right?

Then why in the $#@!!%! would they parade the best of the best players in team shirts with the %$#!!&! patches falling off.

Why can't the event organizers go this extra tiny step and have all patches embroidered or sewn on?

C'mon guys, it looks totally rag-tag.

even the teams country flags are decals pressed on the shirts. :rolleyes:

Betway, the chief sponsor of the World Cup of Pool, they must have been real pleased to see their company's patches coming loose on some shirts.

Earl didn't even have the betway on his shirt yesterday.

Whomever is in charge, please, try to project a more professional image.

That can also result in a costly foul if it falls off and hits any ball. I just saw one fall inches away from the table during a shot between Holland and Sweden.

You really shouldn't let some cheap patches cause so much distress
 
It really does look awful how bad those patches look, half falling off all of their shirts. Bottom line is no matter what happens in pool it will never be as popular as we all wish.

It has more to do with the adhesive and the type of patch. There are very good adhesives that allow the patches to stay on, but a lot of people don't request the right ones.

Also there is a type of thin woven patch, as opposed to embroidered, that adheres extremely well to fabric because it is flexible. The embroidered ones are really too stiff to be used for a sporting event where the body is in motion unless they are permanently sewn on.

Everyone is billboarded up though. It's quite interesting to see the array of sponsors on the shirts. Some well done, some hard to figure out. High def makes it easier.

Overall I am sure Betway doesn't care too much about the odd patch falling off. If anything they probably enjoy any conversation that results from it.
 
I have no idea why patches are falling off these guys, but I can tell you back in the good old days of drag racing, at a national event often you were approached or learned that should you win and have certain decals on your car you would get paid so we put them on last minute.

Maybe these guys find out about sponsors at the last minute and just stick them on quickly. That's nothing more than a wild guess. :D

and to be perfectly honest, I do try to keep things in perspective and so it really doesn't ruin my day.

But, seriously, if I were the chief sponsor of the event, I'd be making damn sure that at least my "Betway" logo was on every players shirts in exactly the same prominent position on all and they'd be sewn on.

If you do blow a gasket I would call a pipefitter, possibly a steamfitter, maybe even a
plumber..:eek:.but definitely not a seamstress.
 
I do get what your saying Brian and I do agree. I can't imagine what a local sponsor would say if their logo fell off my grandson's little league baseball teams jersey, but, am sure someone would get a ear full.
 
A few thoughts. 1. Patches poorly secured or otherwise have absolutely 0 bearing on the popularity or watchability of pool. 2. Only on AZ is there a thread with double digit posts soley on the subject of sponsorship patches. 3. Must we complain about everything? 4. I now realize with this reply I'm part of the problem.

Or we could have a variety of thoughts related to pool in some way, which makes for a lively forum.

Apparently, Loc Tite wasn't one of the Sponsors.

They should be. A couple of dabs on the patches and they could survive an explosion.
 
In a word, it's because they're all men and have no clue about proper etiquette.

If they had a woman by their side, those patches would be in sewn on, no problem.
