Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

Simonis dvds

Not sure if you convinced him, but you convinced me. I've worked on tables for 20 years-lots of Simonis, Granito, Tour Edition, crappy Imperial cloth, and everything in between-but if Simonis has a recomended way to install their cloth it's worth $30 bucks ($15 for bed, $15 for rails) to find out what it is. You can go to the Simonis website, call the '800' number, and get them on the way, like mine are!

Thanks for the support and order. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The question is, how much money do we all have invested in our tools and equipment? Is $29.95 for a tool that makes your job simpler and better a lot of money?

The Simonis DVDs were on the drawing board between Ivan at Simonis and Glen "RKC" for years. From my understanding, the issues we addressed in the DVDs such as shadow lines, difficulties in closing the pockets, covering rails, attaching the cloth, consistent tensioning of the cloth to prevent loose cloth after break in, were the issues that Simonis was getting service calls and questions about. I know, I answered many of them for years.

The DVDs were designed for the professional mechanics and installers who had questions about working with Simonis cloth. As Glen and I have said many times, "if you can install Simonis all the other billiard fabrics are easy".

The videos were shot in a three million dollar production studio (WCAT) with professional lighting, camera and sound production people. Our producer George Cox is an award winning TV and video producer from the Boston MA area. Our script writer worked for CNN news in Atlanta for years. What I'm trying to convey is that the videos are very high quality productions as well as good sources of information. Like everything that Iwan Simonis does, It's better than anything like it in the marketplace.

I'm not here to talk anybody into the DVDs, they sell themselves. I'm here to assure you that the DVDs will make your life easier and your work more consistent, and that goes for any cloth you might work with.

Jay

Rob,

"now that there is funny"!!! to quote Larry the cable guy. I will tell you one quick anecdote about the production. Glen may have arrived at the last minute and I was three months early, but when the lights went on and the director said "action" Glen never missed a beat, ran through most of his lines on the first or second take and to quote our producer "this guy Glen is very professional on camera". I, on the other hand, knew the script backward and forward and could get through anything without five different takes.

The reality is, Glen does a great job when he gets there and it's not that his watch doesn't keep correct time, it's that Glen only cares about the finished product not how long it takes to achieve it.

does anyone know where I can buy these DVDs in Europe
tahnks
rch

Simonis, North America..... Call 1800 SIMONIS extension # 21

hi A-1 billiards
thanks for your answer
not so simple.
I have sent 2 emails to them, they asked me where I am, what I do, and when I said I was from Europe, they never answered me.
I'll try again.
best regards

I am not.

I bought a new Diamond 9' Professional table and I didn't feel comfortable with my mechanic options in Salt Lake City, UT, so I decided to try it myself. I've studied all that I can find and I've bought an embarrasing number of tools for the job. I feel confident about most of it, but I could use more instruction on the cloth installation. I'm putting 860 HR on my table. I understand the reasoning behind not selling the DVDs to consumers, but I wish they could make exceptions. I've invested a fair amount of time and money into this experiment and I'm bummed that I can't get this instructional tool.

just a thought here....

"Hi I am a table mechanic in the ____ area. Could you please send me a copy of the install dvd's. "

now this is not a lie because you are a mechanic but your client list is very small (i.e. 1). Every mechanic had to start somewhere.

I would think they check out your credentials to see if your business at least exists before they take your work that you're a mechanic.

In other words, they still might not sell to a mechanic who does not have a business name and is not listed in any phone book or online directory and who no one can vouch for having work done by that person.

How bizarre this thread has become. All the advice of "buy the DVDs" and now you're saying you can't buy these unless you have a business working on tables? They don't want persons spending premium dollar for their product to have a chance to install it correctly themselves or close to correctly? Because why exactly? Even when they're willing to put out another 30 bucks for the DVDs on top of the cost of the cloth?

Well bad news for you Iwan Bogart, your DVDs have already been transcoded to MPEG 4 and are available for immediate free download on any of a number of file sharing networks. Those you won't sell to will probably just steal it now and you won't even get the 30 bucks the honest folks are trying to pay to stay honest. But your cloth clients will have a playable table. Satisfied customers after all. Makes perfect sense to me.

Yes, this DVD is meant for mechanics/installers with some previous experience installing cloth. You are somewhat of an exception to the norm because you've already spent quite a bit of money on the tools to do the job.

I think the goal here is to reduce the number of complaints about Simonis' product coming from it not being installed properly. The DVDs are meant to train those already in the industry on how to install it correctly so their product plays to its potential.

I guess it's the same thing as expecting a transmission manufacturer to sell you a step-by-step detailed manual on how to change your own transmission. I'm not saying the info isn't already out there if you want to try to DIY, but you may have to dig for it a little. They do however make that information available to the certified mechanics that are hired to change your transmission professionally and expected to do it correctly so that product performs to its potential.
