That was an interesting interview….Greg Sullivan seems to be very knowledgeable guy and has a good insight….for the most part.
However, I think the foundations that pool is missing is the audience. Why do you think snooker is so successful and why does it have such a huge public participation and those handsome payouts often upwards of $200,000 to the winner of the tournament.
I'm a one pocket player myself and rarely play anything else. There is no other game that challenges with creativity, skill and thinking as does one pocket….It's the ultimate pool game. In fact, of all the games and sports I've ever played it is the best all round, most challenging game….That includes football, basketball, socker, tennis, golf and all the others.
But….most average people that still play pool choose 8 ball. Those are the people that would pay to view matches on TV IMO. And those are the ones that would draw the sponsors and advertisers.
And not knocking 10' tables…I think they have their place. But, people want to see their favorite players shoot perfect games every now and then.
How many 147's (the maximum score in pro snooker) have been run on a 6'x'12 table. Quite a few….even in World Championships. I can't see many perfect matches or anything comparable to a (maximum 147) ever happening on a 10' table. But I could be wrong.
IMO…that's what draws the people to snooker…The Steve Hendry's and the Ronnie O'Sullivans.
I know Kevin Tredeau tried it once and he ended up with some payout problems but….That doesn't mean someone with better management couldn't make it work.
Anyway…thanks for the interview and that's my opinion.
