Best player in Texas?, have another beer, I thought Sylver is. Successful?, isn't this guy always scuffling around to get by and broke. Talking about Accu-stats, I believe the players get a percent of all sales, Pat hands out checks. I will agree on the point of some promoters not doing the right thing as they should, such as this fiasco with Tony Annigoni and some of the stuff Barry Behrman has done stinks too.
We do need the US Open 9 ball and I am sure its not an easy task to do it by any means and raising the added money but why not ad what you can instead of promising X and delivering Y. I applaud Mark Griffin, Greg Sullivan, Allen Hopkins, Dragon Promotions and others whom are doing what they promise as far as paying players.
He mentions athletes that do not even play anymore, he does not get that there is no money in pool for the run of the mill pro. This is not a huge spectator sport like the MLB, NBA, NFL and other organizations. It is boring for the average person to watch, big sports games do have exciting moments but are boring at times to me even being there live in person front row.
He speaks about millions of dollars, pool is a multi million dollar industry, count manufacturers, pool rooms and everything else. What does Predator make a year? I know a good deal of cue makers are scraping to get by except for the top guys and I doubt they are rich. Poolrooms are closing up regularly but so are other businesses. When I was green and still am a little bit, I thought we could draw a big sponsor and pool will be revived, maybe one day in our lifetimes but it does not look good.
He is wrong about all the players from PI getting paid a salary, some players in Asia do. I know some of the players from PI are here just trying to earn money for their families and are broke. I heard that a top PI player did not buy back in one tournament because he was broke and would not pay it, there were a 100 guys there that would have put him in for sure. With most players I would not judge a book by the cover, some are in good positions and others are not doing so great but you might think they are. It is kind of like Mr. Hunt here, he comes off ghetto, drunk and in shambles but is probably a good dude I am sure.
He is right about the players not going out to enough amateur events and promoting themselves along with sponsors and the home room they play out of. I appreciate Jason's honesty and I am just giving an honest reply to his interview. It sounds from the end of the interview that he needs some new threads and wants a clothes sponsor. For a good laugh just fast forward to 1:02:10 , funny stuff.
Mike, thanks for posting this interview and also for the fine streaming work you do. I have gotten to check it out here and there and wish you success in it, you do a very good job.
