Isnt This The Wanted/forsale Section ??

I think the raffles are great. Jump in there, Erik!

Robert, I've got a Murnak on order. How do you like the pocket set up on yours? Are you happy with the room available, etc?

How is it irrelevant?

You seem to think it's a high risk, poor-taste endeavor---so skip it, and move on. But again, voice your opinion, why not.

Hmm, I guess I made the mistake of not asking your permission BEFORE I voiced my opinion...in response to the question "what's not to like". You're right. The reasons I don't like raffles was completely irrelevant and off-topic. I'll check with you next time before I post. ;)

I'm just givin' you a hard time, but for real, it seems like every time someone posts an opinion about something on here people get so fired up and take every opinion personal. That's the most entertaining thing about this board to me. It used to be much more informative. Now it's rough action to find something you'd like to buy and just offer someone money for it, or to express an opinion without being attacked. But I'm sorry...THAT has nothing to do with raffling cues.

Okay, forget I said that.

The Murnak case is great.:D :D

Seems odd, but the side pockets on mine are deeper for jump cue butt and cue extension. At the bottom level, the pocket is more of a document / shallower area.

This changes toward the top, where I use the next to top one for a cue ball, and very top one for chalk/chalk holder.

There are more and more examples of carving and options as time goes on.

Heck - I ordered a 3x6 and mid stream figured out 4x8 cases were possible. Jim let me change mid stream with no hassles.

If the raffle is legit and there is a charity involved I have no problem with them.

the problem is there's been no raffles here or on any billiard site for that matter, that i've seen that are legit. to be legit you have to be a registered not for profit group and get a permit to run one. it also means that no one gets any gain (profit) except for the charity running the raffle. the proceeds then get distributed to those they represent. in these cue auctions, either the "raffler" of the cue/case or the maker of it receive the spoil. the last time i checked i don't think there's any not for profit makers out there. it's been done allot and i guess more power to them if they can get away with it. i don't think it's necessarily a bad thing but then again i wouldn't get involved in them unless i knew the proceeds were going to a great cause and not just another way to sell an item......my $.02

I personally do not understand everyone getting so excited about the cues auctions. What real difference is there between Raffling off cues honestly and fairly, and using the site as a sales platform for your business. Lets face it, doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure out that these auctions are for profit, the funds received in most cases are going into some ones pocket not a Charity. This is just another form of sales that members are using to move their cues on the forum. If the auction is legit, it is a great deal for forum members, and the only people who are getting upset are the forum cue sellers.

But how does anyone know for certain that the auctions are legit? How can they be proved to be fair and honest?

Just my thoughts

All this time ive been thinking that this is the WANTED/FOR SALE section and all i can see is AUCTIONS/FOR 25.00 DOLLARS YOU CAN HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN ???????????????????????????
w.t.f has this site come to??? :(

I'd much rather see buyers and sellers trying to deal with a slow market with an innovative approach, than read about people complaining about how they go about it. I'm well aware this is a public forum but if you're so concerned about the contents of the "WANTED/FOR SALE section", why would you start a thread that doesn't contain something you are trying to buy or sell? Auctions are a public sale in which property or items of merchandise are sold to the highest bidder. Raffles are a form of lottery in which a number of persons buy one or more chances to win a prize. I think the raffles are a great way to deal with the state of our current economy and I hope they continue. Just my opinion though

Raffle on brothers! :D
Im all for it and tried to do one on here about a year and a half ago but couldnt sell enough tickets cheaply.I do think its a great idea and is not rigged since they are using the powerball to do it,whats the difference between a cue seller and a person raffling?

In my opinion it is a method of selling and gives others the chance to own something they couldn't or wouldn't pay for at a great price..

wow whats the big deal

I have been in on two or three of these .I did not win one yet
and I am ok with that .I may win one yet .I have one of my cues
up for grabs .I could just take 25 or 35 bucks and go gamble at
the pool room .I just like the idea of a nice cue for cheap .God knows
I have spent enough buying them strait up .If you don't like it dont
bother with it .

What the hell is that suppose to mean? :)

I don't mind the raffles as long as I win!

raffles are great in my opinion, reason being that you normally spend much more when you play a full day of pool, unless you keep winning and such..

For less than the money you spend in a pool hall in a day, you stand a chance of winning a cue that you might wanna try..why not?

It's just like taking $25 to try to win a 500 or 600 bucks cue..why not???

Hmm...possibly the fact that raffles are illegal in many states. Possibly the fact that 13 people or 20 people or whatever pay and get nothing. Only 1-2 people come out of a raffle ahead depending on if it's legit or not. Possibly the fact that it's so easy to scam. Possibly the fact that it looks like a desperation move from guys that can't otherwise sell a high dollar item in today's tough economy. And hey for me, it could even be the fact that it's so trendy and I don't like to follow the herd on every new thing that pops up. Sorry. I'm sure I'll get blasted for having an opinion that clashes with the norm. Oh well. Just my 2 cents.
Very well said,sir..............:)
