I'm not regularly careless but I've had multiple cues stolen when I've left them unguarded. I've also had cues returned to me when I have left them behind.

I had a Joe Ezell brown phenolic ferrule and brown phenolic joint collar stolen about three years ago at another pool hall. I left it attended and it wandered away never to be seen again by me.

Recently, I was trying to sell a Sneaky Pete that HOward Ikeda had made for me years ago along. I brought in two cue cases and showed the cues off to a couple of guys and left the case sitting there hoping someone else would take a look and they did. The thief removed the Howard Ikeda Sneaky Pete and the OB-1 shaft that Mike Gulyassy had made for me and left the Gulyassy forearm/butt, plus the Stretch bridge system and Instroke cue case with broken latch.

I was disgusted but amazed that someone would take only those two items and leave the rest but that's what happened. My amazement grew further when I didn't think it could get any worse. I left the Instroke case, the Gulyassy butt and the stretch system behind the bar and within two weeks a thief got them too.

The Gulyassy forarm has a SCAR on it and the OB-1 shaft has the longest pro taper you have ever seen and no OB-1 logo on it.

I hope the thieves get what they deserve.

I forgot to check off the other boxes. I've had cues returned to me when I have left them laying around. The world isn't all bad. :) And I've secured many cues left unattended and left them with the management of the pool hall.

In 1984 I went to the rest room. When I came back my cue was gone. In 2004, I saw the same exact cue for sale on the internet. The person that had it had paid over $5K for it - it was a Gus Szamboti. After a few phone conversations with the current owner, I decided that the cue just wasn't mine anymore - the guy had invested 10 times what I had into the cue - so much time had passed and I really had nothing to gain and more to lose by ripping it away from its current owner.

Cue thieves are A-holes. If you want something, earn the money for it and buy it. Not everybody has the happy ending, but the feeling you get when you realize the cue is gone - that sucks. For me, it was like losing a limb. Really it was.

I had a case stolen. Whitten case, Espiritu playing cue. Falcon Break/Jump cue. Predator shaft. The whole set-up worth over 2k.

I've also found cues countless times over the years and have gotten them returned to the rightful owner each and every time.

My first cue

About 1962 I purchased a cue for $25 from John Abruzzo, I was about 13years old. They all kept their cues behind the counter at the Villa Park Bowl, so I did the same. 3 days later it was gone. Never saw it again. I don't even know who the maker of the cue was. I was too young to know they could actually be valuable. I have always wondered about the cue. I didn't buy another cue until 1974 in Colo Springs. It was a Schmelke, paid $50 for it. I still have that one. In fact I just had it re-finished be Schmelke for sentimental purposes. If anyone knows anything about my first cue please PM me!! :D :D

JoeyA I've got a great story about a cue of mine that was stolen and returned in the same night but I aint got all that typing in me right now.Good shyatt though.

On a side note I'll offer up something that happened to me a few months back:
I'm playing in my regular PH where I know most shooters, but certainly not all in attendance.I go to the bar or john or wherever and in those few short minutes I can't find my cue.I know I had it just a few short moments before which was a plus, but it wasn't where I left it.

I do the usual searching in corners, under rails,in some drunken idiots hands who thinks its a nice house cue ect...nothin....and I'm starting to get pissed.

I go back to the bar thinking maybe, just maybe, I carried it over and leaned it on something when I ordered a beer.
AND low and behold there it was.

BUT,it wasn't in front of the bar...it was behind it.Tucked in a hard to see corner with some house cues and a few assorted cases. Now this really had me bumfuzzeled.HTF did it get back there???

Turns out someone picked it up and brought it to the bar saying something like "This is my stick, but I don't want to leave it out...but I'll be right back...can you hold it back here for me?"
The barkeep of course says "sure".

Now If I hadn't noticed it,it would be gone today...

Thats a clever scheme to steal a stick without leaving the room with it at the moment and dealing with arse whoopin if caught.I asked her to point out the SOB so he could catch his arse whoopin properly, but he was gone when we looked.

But if I hadn't seen it (and I just barely did)...and he would have come back later...she would have gladly handed it to him because she knew it was his...after all,he gave it to her to hold.

Just food for thought boys.It happened to me.

I didn't find in the poll the thing that happened to me, I actually got 1 Shaft stolen.... and thats all.

Sorry to here this JoeyA. Thank God i have never had one took as of yet. I think thief's are just out there to get anything. They are a bunch of bums to dam lazy to work and its easier for them to just steel something. I dont never leave my sticks out and never leave them unless some can watch them for me. I put them under the table when i play or at my chair. Davie Hodges and I were at a tournament in Phillie one time and we had 2 laptops took right off out tables out of our booth. Somehow the thief's got between us and the crowd and unplugged them and just took off. We what what they call security cameras for 3 or 4 hours and never saw anything. All of the cars in the parking lot were broke into also. We have never got them back but i pry that someday i will find out who done it and then they will have me to deal with. Believe me a thief will pray for death if i catch one that has took something of mine. I wish you the best, Doug

I've never had one stolen, however, I have on a few occasions seen people walk up to a stick (leaning on a table next to a case and other items that would indicate it was in use by a person) and they just pick it up like it's a mint in a large bowl next to a cash register. Even when you tell these people these cues belong to someone, they act like it isn't obvious:eek: . Hard to believe.

I should of checked two boxes. I've never hada cue stolen and I have returned cues I found.

A friend and I found a really nice Fox case on the street leaning up against a car. Took it inside and asked who's it was, it was Mike Massey's case. He was sooooo thankful. It had three (I believe Tim Scruggs) cues inside. He was in Germany giving a demonstration. This was around '92 I believe.

I've never had one stolen. I have, however, left my first Southwest on the table and gone to work {2nd shift} after some sets/games that lasted a bit longer than usual, so I had to hurry to get to work. I could get to the time clock from the pool room in less than 15 minutes. A friend picked up my cue and put it in his locker. I got it back the next day, along with a friendly lecture about leaving it on the table. I acutally did this twice.

Years back I went into this bar regularly and ended up playing some pool. Afterwards the party was on and I mean "ON".

I had a very nice Joss Bill Stroud had made and itwas my pride and joy. In my drunkeness though, I left the cue on the table, stumbled out and went home.

I woke up the next day and for some reason went to the car just to check on it and wow, it isn't there. I called the bar and nobodyeven knew what I was talking about. I was just sick about it.

So, Monday rolls around and I stopped in the bar that evening on the chance that someone knew something about it. Iwasn't mad at anyone figuring I had done this to myself. It was though, gone.

A couple of days later I stopped by the bar again and nobody knew anything about it. Suddenly out of no where a young lady comes up to me and says shehadbeen looking for me and caught me totally off guard. She explained that she was in the bar and realized I had left the cue behind Saturday night. She furtherly explained that she had put it in it's case and that it was at her house secure. We drove over and she returned it to me. I was very lucky.

Here is the funny twist. I was sohappy andgrateful and reached in my pocket to give a $100 and she refused. Now I was really impressed andconvinced her to let me buy her dinner, which she accepted. Six months later we were married. It would have been much cheaper to let her keep the cue.

I just looked at all the choices. You should have listed "I've stolen at least one cue." I bet there are folks who would own up to it, even if not with conversation. That's the ones I'd like to see.

Joey Im really sorry to hear that man!! Were you at Buff's? In that neighborhood it does not surprise me when things tend to grow legs at a moments notice........

I really hope it get returned to you..... too many bad things happen to really good people!

I take my Schon to the mens room with me when I'm in a pool hall. Frankly I don't care what anybody thinks, I've never had it stolen.

I don't have any expensive cues....

but one guy I was playing with had me watch his two Richard Blacks when he went to the men's room. I stopped shooting and sat there staring at them. I wasn't going to try to explain how they disappeared when my back was turned! I try to keep my case and contents value under $200 when I am go out without a friend along. If they get that, at least I'm not hurt too bad.

You forgot to ask how many cues someone has stolen, Personally I have stole about 30 cues-i still paid for them but not what they were worth. ;)

on the square, touch wood-I havent had a cue stolen from me, I have had alot of guns stolen, but never a cue. I only once in my life left my cue on the counter and walked outside, i lose everything but cues. I couldnt steal a mans cue period, especially a players cue. Thats like breaking the never bang a married girl rule-its someones wife and thats just wrong. however I did that once but they were seperated and almost divorced, they never got back together, I didnt know that until afterwards and man I was pissed at her. Some things in life you just cant do and taking someones cueis near the top of the list.

Someone Want To Help Me Look ?

I don't know if my cue was stolen or I simply lost it in a wrinkle.
Doug
( I'll look for it again, later) :)

The airlines have lost my luggage a few times with my cue in it. Last time I was returning from Hawaii and it didn't show up for a week.

I've woken up a few times with serious hangovers, sometimes in unknown girls apartments, and not known where my cue was. It has turned up every time, by retracing my steps from the previous nights (or what I remembered of them.)
