Shane McMinn won with guess who in second.I wonder if Cardone offered McWorter a buy out.Thats strong picking Banks Jr for the win and him coming in second.

So I guess the big winner here on AZ is Jay Helfert, who squeeked by to take down the $40 from JohnnyT!! Nice payday, Jay...;)

Doc
wishing he had bet along with the Jayster

I bet

Billy was upset when Banks missed that 1 ball cut and scratched when it was
20-19 McMinn.

How in the world could he make such a blunder when he had been playing great for 3 days??? Could someone that was there watching it diagram the situation on Cuetable? What pocket did he scratch in?

Banks shooting too fast is one of things that held him back a little before he came up in the world.

Banks shot too fast all the time as far as I'm concerned. But that's his style I guess. Look at how Kieth McCready use to shoot...I sure can't fault his game for it. I shot pretty fast when I played...in fact I had a nickname in NY of "rabbit" because I just about ran around the table for my next shot. What happened to the kid was what Jay said would happen...the pressure would get to him in the end. Well it did in the very end. Jay was almost wrong.

Believe me I got more than $40 enjoyment and thrills out of the bet and I bet Jay sweated a little too. Johnnyt

Hardest $40 I ever made. Tang is here now and we're talking about the tourney. First thing he says, "It's a breaking contest." Both the finalists have HUGE breaks. And Shane VB never really got his break going. It was a feat for Dennis to finish third.

I think it helped them that it was played on Valleys. I hope that next year Dan can get some Diamond's in there. They just play much better, with tighter pockets. Tang's other comment was "The pockets are buckets." He should know. He won a big tournament back there years ago.

I agree with what Tang said...the pockets were buckets. That's the biggest reason most were shooting so fast. Playing on Valley's with buckets was one of the reasons I took the bet. I played 75% bartables and about 95% the last 20 years I played. With tables like that all you need is a pocket for the ball and be on the right side of the next one.

It takes away a lot of the shot-making of the better players...it don't mean much. Like Tang said...It's the break and don't scratch and you'll do OK on bucket pocket bar tables. Johnnyt

Tang and Johnnyt saw it the same way I saw it. The Valley table with
with bucket pockets, coupled with the rules gave the edge to the big breakers. Banks was the best breaker in the tournament. Great effort Mr. Banks , i'm not mad at ya.

I would have given at least 14 to1 odds before it started. This just proves how a ring game format can equelize a field. Mike is a friend of mine and he could get the 7 from most of the players in the field. The kid showed alot of heart throughout the competition. He could get the 6 from a few of them. I just want to know who had the balls to put him in!!!!! Thats gambling!!! It's nice to know a long shot can come threw every once in awhlie. I congratulate Shane too, I thought he there was about 10 players better then him too. I saw his run on the computer. Pretty sporty!! This format is a great format because it equelizes the field a bunch.

Billy Baby, welcome to the forum! So glad to see you posting. Please don't be a stranger. There are some wonderful pool folk who post here at AzBilliards. What a surprise to your name pop up this morning! :)

Hu -- (Shooting Arts is his name on AzBilliards) -- from New Orleans gave a raving five-star review of Diamonds in Dallas. I hope we can make it there sometime soon. It sounds like a pool player's dream!

Wishing you and yours the very best! One of my favorite photos of all time: Billy Incardona, Keith McCready, and Jimmy Reid. RickS of Arizona fondly named this snapshot, "Three Amigos." :D

Willy, stop over at Onepocket.org once in awhile. The Onepocket Hall of Fame election is coming up soon there, and your nomination and eventual selection is an overdue honor. You will certainly have my vote.

Billy, you are the greatest handicapper of all time. I tried to get all the action I could against Banks at 7-2. Fortunately there were not many takers. I would have been sweating bullets when he reached the Hill.
