Jeanette Lee defeats Ralf Souquet and guarantees her position into the 32 man chart today

Notable names such as Archer did not make it and Robles is hanging on and needs a win today to give himself a chance

full brackets and match info in round robin are at www.seyberts.com

Although her win over Souquet is an upset, nobody familiar with Jeanette's passion and talent for straight pool should be surprised by Jeanette's superb play to this point, in which she went 6 - 1, losing only to Sigel in the round robin.

I have posted on numerous occasions that Jeanette has run a 152 against me and a 124 against Mika Immonen. She can light it up at 14.1.

It is well known that she beat John Ervolino, Jimmy Fusco, and Dallas West back-to-back-to-back at the 1999 National Straight Pool Championships, and had a run in the sixties against each. Sadly, Jeanette was recuperating from surgery during the 2000 BCA US Open 14.1 and was unable to play.

If not a 14.1 by men's world class standards, she remains an exceptional straight pooler whose 14.1 excellence is far less celebrated than it ought to be.

Time to give full credit to a wonderful straight pooler named Jeanette Lee.

SJM,
What the heck are you talking about? You must have missed the other thread, where it was CLEARLY stated by several posters that Jeanette "had no chance" against men of any caliber (this of course is going to come as a tremendous blow to poor Ralf Souquet who used to think he had some game).

Is it possible that Ralf is not really a man?? I'm puzzled; and I can only hope that those particular naysaying posters (you know who you are) will step up and explain how such a thing could happen.

Meanwhile, GO JEANETTE!!!!

I honestly didnt think she could hang, still not sure how she will take it when the heat gets turned up. Ive never seen her play str8 pool though, who knows, more power to her.

i dont think JL will have a problem when the heat is on... she talks numerous times in her book about her love for straight pool, and how she prefers to play to 1000 or 1200!!

i'm really rooting for her in this tourney and to say she cant handle anything against the men is a simply sexist comment. imo

Jeanette

I am surprised and continually so by these kinds of upsets.....I guess I started out being a male chauvinist when it came to pool....Boy, have these women set me straight......I could see Jeanette defeating some lesser able men players, but Rolf Souquet??? He's a world champion in the upper echelons of men's pool........I am awed.....You go, Jeanette!

Jeanette has continuously surprised the men players when she has competed against them. Check her record in the World Eight Ball Championships from a few years back. And she made an amazing showing at Derby City two years ago. The girl has game!

If she gets into the IPT she will definitely win matches, and she is capable of beating anyone. In years gone by, I said many times the women play at a level below the men. No more my friends. Allison, Karen, Jeanette and friends can and will beat any man. Even the very best players must come with it, if they draw these ladies. They are not byes any longer.

Heat or no heat, on a pool table she is very mean & tenacious like a pitt Bull. She fights till the end.One should not forget that she beat Dallas west,Fusco guy ( ?Ray Martin ) in the past. She also can play very good in one pocket.

Onemoreyouth -

You have taken what I said in the incorrect way because I have, as a male pool player, stood up and argued till I was blue in the face about Allison and Karen and a few others being able to hang with the men and being able to still place very high if it were mixed tournaments. I dont want to get an a male v/s female thing but I just dont want you thinking im sexist when I have taken so much heat for defending women players and the talent they really have. This about J Lee was just my opinion, I didnt think she could do it --- she is -- I m wrong.

On the subject of women playing well at this event, I heard Jasmin Ouschan ran an 85 for a new women's tournament world record.

JH,
Truer words were never spoken.

I was able to observe JL's run 3 years ago at DCC. Not only did she compete well against the men (despite having a significant break-power handicap), she also stole the spotlight in the showmanship department. Her matches were just as well attended as Efren's (if not moreso). One of the best matches I ever saw was her loss against Mika Immonen. She shot a 1.000, but 2 dry breaks spelled disaster.

She also joined our straight pool league this year, and we were treated to a close up view of some ELEGANT old-school straight pool (somewhat painful however when you are the victim).

A friend of mine who was at the DCC was offered a 9-ball match with JL by George. The same person who gave Jennifer Chen the 7-out would not play JL after seeing her play that time.
He didn't think he had the nuts in the match. lol

Congradulations Jeanette ! !

Some men have hangups, they can't stand to get beat by a woman.. I love playing a woman that shoots as good or better than me.

Congrats to Jasmin...only woman in the top 16!
