Jennifer "shot clock" Barretta

Add this to a long list of yet another thread that couldnt possibly end well.

I hope Jennifer B can laugh this off as “haters got to hate.” The mark of greatness at this game apparently is to have your own bashing thread with your name in the marquee.

Jennifer is an excellent player, and she represents American Pool very well. We as players should count ourselves lucky to have her representing our sport.

Does she play slow? I’ve actually never put her in the obviously slow category. I’ve done commentary on a lot of agonizingly slow players. She doesnt compare to them.

Freddie <~~~ hopes this thread vanishes as well

I agree. She is NOT walking about looking at the shot over and over, hoping for the balls to mysteriously move so she will have an easier shot. She takes her time when she goes down on the shot and that's NOT a bad thing, its' her thing, it's Allison Fisher's thing, it's quite a few folks things.

I would not be bothered at playing against JB, not in the least. She's a very good player, and takes her time when she is on the shot. Good for her. We're not playing basketball, this is not a game played at lightning speed like other sports.

The funny thing is that this thread is more about her slow pull back and pause for delivery. She could take 5 seconds less while down on the ball and 10 seconds more while standing and I bet this thread doesn’t exist.

True- As i pointed out-She just 'will not fire' until she "sees" the shot- contact points, cue, and pocket lining up correctly. Most people after a while will just say screw it, shoot and hope. Not JB. As far as i'm concerned she has the BEST CONCENTRATION in pool. Period.

YEP. And she'd play better if she did take less time when down on the ball. Never seen JB in person but have seen enough video of her missing key balls in tough situations to see this. As for the "best concentration in pool"? For one how do you measure that?? And two, i kinda doubt it.

I was at the first SBE event held at the Oaks and was sitting with Mike Dechaine watching Jennifer playing an evening match against Stevie Moore. MD was scheduled to play on that table next and was having a tough time staying awake - this match was taking a long time. I went to get coffee and because it was night time the vendor area was all locked up so I had to exit the bldg then go halfway around to the food court then back. After all of that the score hadn't changed much, maybe 2 or 3 games. I think someone took a break.

And in fairness, both players were actually playing very well and it ended up going hill-hill where Jennifer had the win in her grasp but went out of line on I think the 7 or 8b and missed the next shot. Stevie cleaned up and won the next game to take the match. I believe they were racing to 9 so it took 17 games to decide it.

JB has a very deliberate routine and I think this is a big part of what makes her play so well. She is not nor has she ever been a world beater but her game is very respectable. Like Matt said earlier, she plays somewhere around shortstop speed. Not too shabby, imo.

She is obv very dedicated to our sport and to my knowledge she hasn't done anything to tarnish pool's image (or her own). I'd say she's a great ambassador and an asset to pool.

The youtube link on this thread showed both JB and Jasmin struggling some and it ended JO winning 7-5.

If anyone on here remembers the SBE Oaks match I referred to above against Stevie, they can confirm Jennifer has the ability to catch a gear and play strong.

Not buying it! You can't "see" the shot then miss by a ball. Dennis O does what you describe, this is something else entirely.

I've always liked JB, shes good for the game as far as her demeanor and dress, its the slow play I can do without though.

It's completely unfair and oftentimes rude when these slow players slow down an entire event. They never are the ones having to play a match at 1am because they took 4hrs to play a match, it's the people playing after them.

I seem to remember a match not long ago where a player ended up having to play around 1am, and then had like an 8am match in the morning when his match was scheduled for 10pm, but the 2 previous matches caused that player to have to sit till 1am to START his match, that's 4 friggin hrs late for start time cause of slow play.

JB is as cool as they come, she plays great, and I'm positive she is not sweating the negativity in this thread. She's one of the good ones guys, let's not push her away cause she doesn't pull the trigger as fast as some of you would prefer.

"Focus on the problem not the person." In other words change the system standards, that's a more worthwhile debate.

I have been criticized, critiqued before, someone leaves a negative yelp review for me or a friends business I don't go full on triggered.
People have a right to think Jenn plays slow, people have a right to review my business.

Some of you getting WAY to emotional over this

Watch how long she takes to pull the trigger once she's down on the ball especially at the end of the match. Looks like she just freezes-up. The lady can play but she just looks so indecisive when it counts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roOKmP1III8

She doesn't seem excessively slow in this video, at least not for the first four games I watched.

Question, though: why, after Jasmine breaks in game 4 and makes the 3, does she sit down, and Jennifer gets up and runs out?

guessing they were playing 3 balls had to either go in or make it back past the head string on breaks (not counting whitey).

I have watched JB play in the past, and my recollection was that she was a very deliberate player. But she does stay down on the ball a long time before pulling the trigger. When I do that, a miss almost certainly follows. Obviously she thinks it works for her, so who am I to judge.

One other thing, I consider myself a "fast" player. However, I've been in matches where other guys watching said I was playing slow. Some racks need a lot more time to figure things out. At a certain level of skill, IMO it's the mental aspect of the game and poor decisions that tend to cause the losses of games.

Yep. and here I'm still waiting for that guy to take me up on my offer. And I know you can make it happen Mikey. I'll gladly stake JB in the match, though she will probably want to bet her own to keep the cash herself, but my offer is still good is she wants a backer to play a guy she has never met ;)

Make it happen Mikey... this would be fun to watch. Don't know who would win, but like to see someone from AZB finally put their money where their mouth is :)

The people in this thread that questioned Jennifer’s ability to play....
...how many can take Stevie Moore to hill-hill?

The first time I saw Stevie play was in the 2006 US Open 9-ball....
...he won that match hill-hill also...he was playing the defending champion...

I admit, I could not, unless it was a race to 2 on a bar box :)

Since she has a 652 Fargo Rating, so she's just above the rating of the top guy in our county league. So based on that alone, I would say that most guys on this forum would have a tough time beating her.
