yobagua said:Mika is one of the biggest cry babies Ive ever seen. Whinning about this and that. The match between Django and him was ridiculous. Busty just threw his hands and said rack your own then. After Mika went on some Jag about Busty's racking. Do you think Bustamante would try to cheat you to beat you.
He comes in to town and says he doesnt know one pocket and proceeds to drill everybody all the time whining about how he doesnt understand the game and he doesnt know it. He's a World Champion for christ sakes. Act like one.
Terry Ardeno said:Several people have made comments in this thread about Mika being involved in other "spats" or controversies with other pro players and his "prissy" disposition.
I'm the type of person who can usually find nice things about people. But, of all the pro players I've met in person and talked with, Mika is the only one who seemed cold and very much stuck on himself. I've read in other threads when somebody mentioned something similar to that comment, somebody else piped in "that he's shy"...No, what I saw wasn't shyness, it was arrogancy in the 1st degree. And not just once, anybody can have a bad day. The three different times I saw and spoke with Immonen, he was not very nice to those around him. I saw first hand a guy ask him for a photo and Mika said "No, you already have one yesterday." The guy said "my camera was not working and the picture didn't take, so can I please get another one?" And, (I'm not making this up) Immonen said "No, I don't feel like letting you have another one." A guy that was with Mika said go on or go ahead, "I'll take one of you with him" and Mika said "No, he doesn't get a picture with me."
Now, maybe I'm old fashioned here, but this was at the Valley Forge Expo and Immonen was walking around between matches. Fans were everywhere. And I would think that if a person was interested enough in someone to ask for a photo, well, the pro should not feel put off, but rather, flattered that someone even cared that much. But, to be fair, no pro is under any obligation to sign autographs or pose for pics just because someone asks. I guess it is a personal thing with every pro being different.
Immonen seemed very pleased with himself after he turned down that fan. That's what stuck in my mind, how he looked very smug, like he has control issues or something that he struggles with.
This is the first time I ever posted something that was not positive about a pro player. I have a great respect and admiration for the talent these men have. But the bottom line is that they are all human, just like we are. Maybe I saw him on the only three days in each of those years that he was having a bad day. I don't know. But my impression of him is that he is very much in love with himself.
He had a long term girlfriend, so I seriously doubt he is anything but heterosexual.
Quickly, JJ seemed like one of the classiest guys off the table I have ever met. Very soft spoken and gracious.

Well, that something else may have been the $$$ J.J. got from him. $$$ make a lot of bad blood.Andrew Manning said:I think JAM had it right by saying "the three sides to every story rule must apply here".
Saying "I guess we're even" when you're acknowledging that you got a lucky roll and that the other player has had one in the match, too, is totally innocent. I hear that exact comment made all the time in competitive play, and I've never seen anyone get upset over it. I'd be willing to bet either there was already bad blood between these two, or there may have been some other reason Jeremy was already very upset. The comment alone would not be enough to set any competitive pool player off, because I know they've all heard it a thousand times.
I do think a shouting match, and especially a nasty epithet like the one allegedly used, are not appropriate things to be heard during a match between "professionals". Exploding like that during the match rather than later in private is unprofessional in the utmost.

Mika doesn't have to be "likeable". It's not his disposition. He doesn't line up for hugs or photos or autographs. To make these kinds of comments about Mika without letting him defend himself isn't right. All you are doing is letting people believe that JJ was justified in saying what he did because Mika doesn't win popularity contests.

Its sad that this story is getting a lot of attention.
Mika will be Mika.
Once Mika figures out how to get under your skin, he celebrates by doing it as much as possible until he gets a reaction out of you. It's best to just wear ear plugs and ignore anything he says and does throughout the match. JMO.
JJ... real nice guy, but he does have a scary temper at times. A few years ago he became upset during a match and punched a hole in the wall (this was at Bankshots in Jacksonville, Florida) - I'm just glad I wasn't the wall.

Harsh words were exchanged between Mika Immonen and Jeremy Jones after their match on Table 2, which Mika won.
After a bad fluke by Mika he said "I guess we're even" in reference to another stroke of good luck by Jeremy.
Jones took exception and they had words soon after. This continued after the match. They almost took their argument outside.
Jones reportedly accused Immonen of being gay, calling him a F____t. I spoke to Jeremy and he did not retract this, saying that Mika "jumps the fence." He also said that Mika had no class because Jones, after luckily snookering Mika eralier after a missed, raised his hand in apology, while when Mika hit a lucky fluke he instead made his "I guess we're even" comment.
Supposedly the referee did not intervene in the argument sufficiently.
Mika also told afterwards that Jones once borrowed $700 from him and it took one and a half years to get paid, recounting how Jones tried to avoid Mika afterwards. He said "you can see what kind of guy he is." Mika told me he was only speaking to himself when he made the "now we're even comment." Immonen maintains that he allowed Jones to continue his outbursts and only said "are you done?" after each tirade.
This all happened an hour ago. I didnt see it but I spoke to eyewitnesses and spoke to both players.
In 4 years of WPC this is the most bizarre incident I've ever known to happen at this event.
Note-IS Mika saying "i guess we are even" really that big of a sin? Afterall, he is at the table -IM just not seeing that as something to be hung for. What do you think Cardinal sin or not?
