At around 23 minutes in he insults Earl's intelligence. "well that's his problem, is when he thinks" "whwn earl goes into the thinking mode it's not good ok"

And earlier in this video he was mocking him and calling him dumb as well.

Jimmy must still be bitter from Earl beating him so bad.

IMO Jimmy has the wild 8 and a game to the hill.

* ALL THE POST IS EDITED & DELETED *

Only couple of words instead as an accu-stats customer & listerner & a guy who never knew Mataya in person. He's not my favorite commentator. I rather not listen to him as a commentator in a game, I watched the whole match, all 4 parts. He's not outgoing with the other commentator also, and so stubborn.

Again thats my personal taste in commentators as a listerner who doesn't know one of the them in person and thats from first impression in a game.., and I really do enjoy it when Billy & Jimm in accu-stats Vids.

I don't care for Jim's commentating. He's too much of a smart0-a$$ for my taste. Get's old real quick. Edit: I just watched that whole thing and he was not so bad this time. I think that he was drinking a couple times that I heard him and he was clearly out of line.

Don't care for the jerk talking ,guess who he was married to? How stupid is he?

Earl Strickland and "intelligence" should not be used in the same sentence. Apparently he can dish it out but doesn't like to take it.

Funny! :D

Just for those nay-sayers there that don't have a clue about Jimmy Mataya, here's a couple of facts:

1) He is more gamblier than tournament player (correct me if I"m wrong :o )

2) He used to have one of the meanest masse strokes around back in his "prime-times" in the late '80s, mid '90s.

Jimmy "Pretty Boy Floyd" Mataya doesn't get mentioned as much as he should in discussions about top players of old. He was definitely a force in the 70's and 80's. One of the top money players of his era and a formidible tournament player as well. In the big Ring Games of the day, Jimmy was always one of the favorites to take it off.

A great guy when away from the table, with a keen sense of humor and a soft heart (really). Put him in the commentators booth and he's liable to say anything. He does not hold back with the "mic" in his hand. Jimmy is opinionated and has his own take on everything, good or bad. That's Jimmy!

He'll be my buddy forever, no matter what he says "on the air".

I know he's a legendary money player, but he was also a top-top tourney player too right Jay? My memory is terrible, but isn't he either the only person or one of two all-time to win the world 9-ball championship back-to-back? Something like that.

I met him briefly at DCC last year. Very friendly guy, I thought. He's no worse at commentating pool than Johnny Miller is at golf. You either love the guy or you don't.

I dont dislike him at all, and his commentary is ok sometimes, but i did think he shouldn't be making comments against earl on video for whatever reason he doesnt like him.

Jay's absolutely right about Jimmy. I had the opportunity to see him a lot at the Stardust tournements in Vegas in the early 70's and he had more charisma than anyone. He looked like a movie star, played great pool, and had more pure gamble than anyone, with the possible exception of Cornbread Red and Ronnie Allen. I made a small score and bought a round of drinks at the lounge, Mataya was there, and he wouldn't let me buy another drink the whole time I was in Vegas. Very generous, cool guy. When you hear him on Accustats, you're hearing the "hustler patter" from the old days. Everyone talked like that, probably copying Minnesota Fats, the way all airline pilots talked with a southern accent, mimicking Chuck Yeager. After listening to all the slick, packaged, "producer-in-the-ear" commentators in sports, I enjoy hearing real, unfiltered, uncensored reports on events. Jimmy, you've earned the right to say whatever you want IMO.

I thought the commentary was hillarious. I actually busted out laughing a number of times watching that video, and the next two until the end of the ring game. I don't think Jimmy was being too hard on Earl at the point the OP mentioned. Later (maybe one of the next two videos) he did say something about Earl being "No Einstein." But they were making fun of eachother and Billy Incardona too. I don't think it was particularly malicious.

Listen, back in his day, the 70's and 80's, Jimmy had more heart then King Kong. And he could play! Besides, Earl has dished out some himself, so he should be able to handle a little. Not a big deal as I see it.

i like mataya on the mic, he wouldnt be allowed on ESPN but so what? he is funny and speaks his mind, in person he is the same and the center of attention and funny, i wouldnt want to hear him commentating on a one pocket match but for a ring game he is great and funny-fast and loose, he would be good for the action matches too-part of the time. he is very knowlegeable and entertaining, however when he drinks a bit too much then i'm done with him, but his energy is great. i think his ring game commentary is the best of all of them-it suits his style, but 14.1 or 1p he wouldnt not be my choice. i like him the times i have met him and spoke to him.

At 23 minutes he wasn't insulting Earl at all. He was implying that Earl plays by feel, he is a fast, natural player. He doesn't contemplate shots, like Souquet for example. That was definately not an insult, just a very accurate statement about Earl's style of play when he is in top form.

Btw what is wrong with Ewa? Why bash on her? Just curious.
I think the implication was why did Jimmy let her go, not why did he marry her in the first place.
