Joe Rogan should color comentate pool!

I would pay to listen to Alex, Rogan and Justin in the booth. I would be laughing for days. Those 3 guys are hilarious.

He might play well off Rogan though, think Don Cherry and his antics and high opinion of himself. Rogan would be the more laid back side that just smirks at Mike at times and goes along humoring him.

In truth though, I have a hard time thinking of anyone in that 50 or so age range. Allen Hopkins maybe? Never heard him commentate, kinda lacks charisma from anything I have seen him in. A 50 year old Miz would have been PERFECT alongside Rogan, but we don't have anyone at all like that these days. Perhaps CJ Wiley actually, he was the right type of personality and does not actually play much himself these days.

Allen is pretty good, here is a video with him commentating, any of these Legends of Pocket Billiard have him commentating, they are all over Youtube. He also has done the Challenge of Champions for quite some time.

I agree, Joe would be great! He knows pool well enough to hold his own with a player in the booth, and he's a super professional commentator. His natural humor would be another big plus. He's just so damn busy I seriously doubt we'll be seeing him anytime soon. Maybe some day he'll surprise us all!

Sorry I'm not familiar with the term "color commentate". What does that mean?

Usually they riff on random stuff while there's not much going on in a match. Also they're usually pretty funny, crack jokes, and they'll run statistics and sorts. Joe would be great at that.

Any chance of Max Eberle in the booth for a while? Max for pool insight, Joe to give Max and everyone else a laugh.

Other pro players that spend time in the booth as walk-ons could be fun. These long sessions lend themselves to humor and different voices/viewpoints during the match.

Mike Sigel.....a tremendous player no doubt....but, is there enough oxygen in the TAR studio for everyone?

Shane/Earl...This is going to be good.

I didn't know Joe could play pool. He does a great job for the UFC, so I imagine he'd do well at covering pool as well, but pool couldn't afford him.

Maybe they should try getting a "hustler" for their for color commentary. It seems to me that pool keeps trying to get away from its "seedy" imagine, but embracing/acknowledging it might be a better way to go. Imagine a Minnesota Fats type personality doing color.

T he is knowledgeable of the fighters and MMA, I am sure he knows the players and the game of pool just as well.

I'm sure he's equally knowledgeable regarding kickball, darts and Australian football. :D

Seriously, even if he knew nothing at all about pool, (which I doubt is the case), he's such a competent commentator that he would be better than 90% of the guys currently doing the job.

I've watched him play, he plays better than 80% of the people on this forum without question. He should have no problem talking on a mic about pool. Maybe one day, he will.

80%? Really...

The majority of people I've met from this forum play under what I saw Joe play. Obviously 80% is just a guess and maybe not accurate... but I would guess most of this forum (including myself) doesn't beat he 9ball ghost. I would guess Joe does beat the ghost.

I'd say you're right. I wish we could get an honest ideal of how people actually play. It would be interesting to see the actual dispersion of playing levels. It seems that everytime a poll is up, everyone is a shortstop and they got that good in less than five years.

I love the internet, not intended to derail the thread.

I think Joe would be an excellent choice for commentary.

Well the way I see it just because someone is extremely knowledgeable about something doesn't mean they will be a great commentator/ analyst. Perfect example is Jerry Rice trying to talk football on ESPN. Greatest receiver ever but pretty bad behind a mic. Some people have the personality to entertain people with their words and some don't. Joe Rogan has that personality and then some. Add to that he does indeed know pool and he would be a great fit. Like others have said though, at this point pool can't afford him, if it could though he's the type of person that could really help grow the appeal of the game to the general public. Sometimes I watch streams or YouTube videos and just turn the sound off because the commentary is so poor but I think he'd definitely keep a viewers attention. Just my 2 cents anyway.

You don't have to play to pay your dues.

Look at baseball, some of the greatest play by plays in the business never held a ball.

What do you think is paying your does anyway. I know plenty of guys who can't play much at all but are great behind the mic. You may know how to talk about something but executing is a different story.

This is a pool forum, several people on here are "star struck" on JR. However, if you go over to sherdog, where all they do is talk MMA, I've been a member there for a long time, you will see plenty of threads talking about him and how he is not a good announcer.

Yall are entitled to your opinions thinking he is good, I'm entitled to mine thinking he is not good.

You'll also see people on sherdog salivate over Bas Rutten who I find pretty annoying after awhile.Half the forum over there is still stuck in the pride years.

He can empty me and 3 others here at the pool hall out to a high number if you want think he's beating the ghost.

You want to do a 12 ahead? We'll come to him or you, no need to leave your keyboard.
