John Schmidt

John's a deffinate plus for the sport !

John's 1 of the guys that can give pool a facelift from the negativity that's usually surrounded with the sport....Talk all the chit u want John...You know da crazy cajun got your back..lol

For some reason, I thought it was John Schmidt's choice to leave this forum. That said, hell yeah, I'd like to see him back!

I missed this, he left? Man it seems like everyone eventually decides to leave here. But I can't imagine why, everyone seems to like him and hardly anyone I saw ever said anything negative to him, except occasional sniping from Danny.

yessssss

Well i know john personally and he lives in my home town when were not out riding dirt bikes and are playing pool he continues to give me pointers he is the kind of guy that beats you out of 20 and buys you a 25 dollar dinner over all he is a stand up guy and a person i consider a great friend

Dont know him personally but would like to. From wat i've seen on here he seems like a very honest, down to earth guy. Would love to see him back. Good luck with everything John.

That "ate by a goat and shit off a cliff" line he wrote was classic.:)

I"d take him to a dance just because of that line!

He seems rational, open, intelligent and cool some of the time but sometimes he comes across as an angry guy who wants to bash people. Maybe it's when he drinks? I don't like him in attack mode.

He DOES play some pool.

Jim,

For starters John drinks very little, and if he seems to be attacking anyone on this forum or otherwise you can bet he tried to turn the other cheek first. I know for a fact all of the noise with Harriman started well before their first match because of a statement that John made in jest and Danny decided to act like "A LITTLE B!#$H" because of it. I always thought the timing was a little funny since the statement wasn't an issue until the first "All Around" was set and only a couple of weeks away.

I normally would l not get involved in a thread like this, but for someone to make a statement that makes John look like he is responding to something or someone because he has been drinking is a little out of line in my opinion.

Sorry if I took that statement wrong in anyway.

I know john pretty well. His passion for straight pool inspired me to bring back the 14.1 world championships after like a 17 year hiatus. In the time I've spent with him, I've only seen him get the respect deserved from his peers. I find that a good ruler to measure a man by.

His occasional sniping here has been a result of being attacked. I remember like 7 or 8 years ago he complained to me about the paltry pay outs at tournaments. Without wealth and fame that usually accompanies pro athletes, john feels that his reputation is all that he has. I respect him for defending it.

I agree sjm, he is a great talent and a valued asset to the pool community. God knows, there aren't many of them.

Randy

As long as john continues to remember his roots and be a down to earth honest guy, he will always remain one of my favorites.

That said, I only wish he would post more in random threads. Seems like he only posts in threads where his name comes up.

Big deal if it leads to that sh*t, John should ignore it and know that it's just envy.

Jim: If he does drink, it is very rare. I had dinner with him and a few guys down at Derby a couple of times, and, unlike me he didn't take a drop. His good buddy, Bill M. also abstains.

To get back on topic, John has always been very cordial to me from the first time we met. He doesn't act like a big shot and he goes out of his way to make the casual player/fan feel comfortable.

The big brouha that started with that other pro was started, as another poster pointed out, when John said something lightly, in jest and the other fellow took it literally and started making a big deal about it and attacking John about it. John has tried to defuse the situation before but to no avail. The other fellow is like a dog with a bone and won't let it go.

As another guy said, if we had 100 like him, the pool world would be much better.

Neil: I sorta see your point, but it kinda makes it sound like he owes people something just because he's good at pool. A lot of dudes are good at pool on this forum, he's just exceptionally good. What he has is valuable and maybe he'd rather sell it than just give it away. You'd expect to pay 100, 150, or even 200 an hour for instruction from a player at john's level.

Or maybe it's just a communication thing. You can sorta tell he didn't go to keyboard finishing school, and I dunno if he is willing to bother with stuff like the wei diagrams. Maybe he finds it a clunky way to communicate and would much rather just show people info in person with live examples. Granted it doesn't spread as far and wide that way.

Or maybe he just prefers to socialize ^^

I can't believe he left this forum and it's somehow not a big deal... where's the big threads saying JOHN DON'T GO and whatnot? How's that slip under the radar? He was one of the most active of the top players and he's joined the ranks of Toasti and other pros who have apparently thrown up their hands in disgust at the forum. I hope it's just a rumor.

Good post, Creedo.

I don't think he has actually left completely. He's just out riding and playing and living his life a little. He did post on the 14.1 forum a 208 that he ran on a diamond about a week ago.

I have to admit, I lost some respect for JS after he posted the private message from DH in the public forum.

Well, I guess I'm a little different than most on here. I do not know him personally, just from on here. From all the comments, I assume he is a nice guy, gentleman, ect. There is no doubt he is a great player. And, therein comes 'the rub' for me.

John has 582 posts. I just went through every single one of them to make sure I didn't miss something and end up talking out my backside. Out of those 582 posts on a POOL FORUM, this is what I have learned from his posting-

1. 860 is a better cloth for pool than 760
2. Dirty balls don't play as well as clean balls
3. When playing 14.1, don't run the cb around much.
4. Silicone spray will make the ball spin faster.

Now, granted, I didn't even learn that, I already knew it. My point is, it's great that some pros are on here. "But what benefit is it that they are here if they aren't going to share anything? NOBODY is going to all of a sudden become a world beater from a few tips they might share with us. Why not share some info? You have a unique asset to this forum, why not use it?

You love to come on here and get your ego stroked. And, I have no problem with that. Everybody on here does the same thing to some point. But, how about giving something back? I don't think that there is a single person on here that wouldn't appreciate you and the other pros giving some tips and advice on shots, patterns, ect. How about it? That is the thing that makes this forum so great. Be a part of it!

I doubt there are many secrets besides a lot of talent and hard work.

i believe that you have to put yourself in uncomfortable positions and see how you perform, whether that be gambling or tournament play.

Ive looked at some of the diagrams of scenerios of tables set up and it seems that almost everyone from amateurs to pros agree on what the right shot is , the difference is the pro can execute consistantly

When someone sends you a letter, or an email or tells you something on the telephone or tells you something in person, Do you think that you have no right to repeat it to anyone??

A "private message" on AZB is merely the name AZB has given to its in-house email system. It just means that it has not been communicated publicly on an open forum and has been sent just to the recipient(s) just like the forms of communication mentioned above.

There should be no more of an expectation of privacy in a pm than there would be in any other form of communication.
