Johnny Archer vs. Allison Fisher?

Allison,Karen, and Janette are champions in the league that they play in. They all hold up very well under pressure ,playing players that are reasonably close to their speed. They negotiate situations well playing one another, but when faced with the best male players in the world, under the right conditions they will be in uncharted waters.Playing on 4 3/4 inch pokets with a new fast surface they will remain competitive. Playing 10 ball on 4 1/4 inch pokets will be too much for any of them to deal with playing the upper echelon players. There will be too many decisions for them to negotiate well, simply because that they are unfamiliar with the problems and options. So cosequently they will break down, and when they do winning games will be extremely difficult. Especially when they will suffer in the breaking area of the game.If I had to bet, my money it would be on Archer giving 40 games to 100.
PLAYING WINNER BREAKS WILL HELP THE FAVORITE MALE PLAYERS TO PREVAIL IN THIS INTERESTING MATCH UP.PLAYING ALTERNATE BREAK WILL CLEARLY GIVE THE WOMAN A MUCH BETTER CHANCE. POSSIBLY ENOUGH TO MAKE THEM A FAVORITE. ( TOUGH TO OVERCOME)

You'd have to ask George that question. I bet he doesn't want to play her any 14.1 to see who buys dinner.

How about sex? George might start going 150 and out everytime.

Right now, I don't like your chances if George meets you.

Jay sorry not quite smart enough to know what you meant by last quote?

Do not get me wrong Jay I'm not knocking any female players, several have great games. But I do believe that there is a long list of male players that would get in the box with the best of the women, not just a few males at the top.

Well, I am smart enough to know what he means, so here goes..

He is saying that you are totally disrespecting Jeanette Lee by bring sex into this, whether you are talking about with George or not. George would most likely kick your @ss, and he does construction for a living, so he is a pretty stout dude.

Did you read the whole context? Lighten up.

But that said I would apoligize to the Breedlove family if it was offensive, wasn't meant to be.

Russ, the seven and the last three is a lot of weight at any level. You get a little out of line on the three and the decision to fire or play safe is totally different. If the seven, eight, or nine gets tied up? Think about it.

By the way, whoever said they don't believe Chewy beat Allison, pm me and I'll give you some phone numbers to call and verify that.[/QUOTE

I hate to say this with but I know for a fact that Chewy beat Kelly Fisher at my home room Rackem in Matthews NC and the difference that day was the break, but I have been around Chewy a lot and I don't bet against him and that break. Also let it be known that the spot Tony Watson offered Allison did not show up in the ahead set they played, she just roasted him and the bet was not offered to her again. I also am very sure Sparky Ferrule can't play Allison even much less giving her a wild ball, and Kelly will hold her own against Sparky also.

Seven and the last three? I definitely like Tony or Chewy even. And, and if Tony is "right," he might still win that game with the seven. Their breaks will get them over the hill.

I know a few years ago Tony gave Allison the 6 and the break and Tony lost. After losing to her in a tournament match Tony offered her the same game and she would not play. Before this Cliff Joyner gave Allison the 5 and the break and Cliff won (I did not see this, but it was reported in Billiards Digest). This was odd because I think Tony plays rotation games a little better than Cliff and I think Allison should win getting that kind of weight from Cliff, she may be the the favorite playing even in tournament conditions. During this time Grady and Allison were touring and I believe Grady came out a few sets ahead of Allison during their exibition matches. Around the same time Grady posted on Southern Billiards forum that his 9 ball game was not what it once was and that he had recently lost playing Tony Watson getting 4 games on the wire racing to 11. I think Tony giving Allison the 7 is gambling and I would be more likely to bet on Tony because I think if Tony is in gear he would win quick. Also, a couple of years ago Jon Hennessy was playing about a ball below his current speed and he beat Monica Webb (ranked in the top 5 at the time) giving her the 6, 8, and the last 3 (or 4, I can't recall for certain) and the game was not even close. Spots other than games on the wire don't mean a whole lot at this level. I think the women play really great and on a table with newer cloth that they can play close to players like Tony Watson in races to eleven or shorter. I think the difference will show up when they match up for big money or if they play on tighter tables with slightly worn cloth. I think the men have a huge advantage dealing with gambling pressure because most of the top male players grew up playing for money. Also, I think the men have alot more experience dealing with the pressure of playing great players. The reason for this is that there are very few women players that pose a real threat to Allison or Karen so when they play a match they may "free wheel", but there are literally 100's of men that are capable of running 5 or 6 racks on tough equipment during any given inning. I think this could put alot of unfamiliar pressure on the top women players. Also, I think most women that play mostly tournament matches on new tables with new cloth would have trouble dealing with a seasoned gambler on a tight table with worn cloth. This type of environment requires a more powerful stroke and I think someone like Archer, Alex, Shane, or Rodney would be next to impossible to beat even for the top male players (even getting weight) who play mostly on new tables with new cloth. I am not knocking the women players, but I think there is more difference than just the break. Most players are breaking softer now anyway. I think for someone like Allison to compete with the top male players for money they would have had to pay their dues on the action tables and against the men in major tournaments and this will not happen over night.

This is probably all a moot point...

Yes, ABUNDY, great post.....

I hope that nobody thinks I'm down playing the female's talent, because I'm not, and ( edited because I don't play for enough for anyone to be willing to do it, so it is an empty statement).... but this is reminiscent of the billy jean king tennis match of yester year and nothing is going to actually go down without it being some has been that is no where near top form... The top men aren't going to be willing to risk their reputation on it as is obvious from John Schmidt's humble posts and the top women aren't likely to do it either...

Someone had mentioned that the WPBA doesn't let the women compete in the men's tournies, are you telling me that the top female pros can't compete in the US open???? I seem to remember several of them trying... again I'm not trying to down play their ability at all.... It's just the way that it is that for now anyway they can't compete with the men unless you make all sorts of accommodations like alternating break, not having tighter conditions etc...

I've seen the female's play and they have excellent mechanics and shoot extremely well... I doubt that in my current condition that I would be the favorite in a match against a couple of them, but come on.... this isn't going to happen and if it does and the women win on an even keel, I will publicly, not on this site and anonymously, but publicly in person eat my words....

Barry Behrman will not let any women play in the U.S. Open.
