no they arent matching up, JAy wrote his book and it was GREAT,

JohnnyT was kind enough to send me the first few chapters to give him some feed back on his book, last week.

THere is no winner here its a tie, one is fiction the other is a account of Jays life, Both of out friends are great writers, different styles, different feel, both about pool, duh???, JT's book is a fast pace story that you cant put down, it needs a bit of fine tuning but I got a first draft, Its far from being done as it moves so fast it begs to be a long read-yes its that good. even in its first draft.

So JT you got your marching orders, finish that book!!! you have a winner, I told Jay the same thing, and his first draft was rougher than yours, like I said its a tie, Both are great reads.

everyone please encourage JohnnyT to finish this book, he is on a winner for sure, the book puts you right there in the "now", its a good feeling, you dont feel like a rail bird with his writing style you feel like your part of it.

thanks

eric

PS: JT I will email my opionon and reasons for a few minor, very minor changes that will not change any thing just make things a bit more acurate. I will say pubically if you dont change a thing your still just fine, man there are some great writers here!!!! hint to Jay;)

Nice post....

Jay's book was first rate....

Johnny makes great posts, I think his book will folllow suit....

In pool, I'll take Johnny on the barbox, Jay on the big table...

There's always room on my bookshelf for material such as "Pool Wars". If the early reviews equate JohnnyT's book with Jay's, get going on the final draft and post up ordering info!

I am looking forward to reading Johnnyt's book. I too enjoy reading his post. I am sure the book will be quite an entertaining read.

I loved Jay's book highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys pool!!:thumbup: That's a 2 thumbs up!

I'm looking forward to meeting Johnny one day. I would almost bet that we have crossed paths somewhere before. That has happened to me many times with old time guys. We didn't know each other's names but we were in the same spot at the same time and saw each other there.

I saw Artie B. play in L.A. many, many years ago and had no idea who he was. Everyone thought he was a big sucker, and he was getting all kinds of weight and robbing people. I ran into Buster Merchant down South and had no idea he played so good. Same with Billy Johnson (Wade Crane) first time I saw him. Country Calvin also in Oklahoma. And Weldon Rogers in Arizona. I had no idea who these guys were until much later. The only one who beat me out of any money was Crane.

I played a lot of pool around Florida in the late 60's and 70's. And Johnny was around back then. I think we crossed paths somewhere.

Jay, although I made many trips to FL in the 60's & 70's I didn't move here for good until 1980. If we met or played at all it would probably be in NY. I played all over the place in NY in the 60's and 70's. Johnnyt

I was there too. A lot! Guys & Dolls, 7/11, McGirrs, Broadway, Julian's, out on Long Island in a few spots, Westchester County and even over in Jersey.

good reads, yes

i read jay's book a few months ago and it is true that it is hard to put down. a pool players must read true story.

now i am also in the progress of johnnyt's first 7 chapters. i am sold on the story and will be anticpating his completion. it takes you into the action right away and it to is going to be very hard to leave this book alone. just last nite and today i read 5 of 7 chapters and as soon as i can
i will be bearing down on the remaining 2. all i can say is people get ready for a good one !

aka poolzilla

I was at Guy' and Dolls a lot. Johnnyt

See, I told ya. I only played about a 100 guys in there, way back in the mid 60's. I had trouble running a rack back then. I robbed Jerry Ohrbach a couple of times though (maybe $20 at two a game ).

That's where I first saw Boston Joey and White Cannonball play. Country was around every day too. Jersey Red, Blackie, Shorty and Richie From The Bronx came in for the big money games. And Johnny Ervolino was THE MAN when it came to gambling.

Did you know the Rebel, Rex, Little Frankie, Augie Catorelli (he played good) or any of that old crew? I forgot most of their names now.

I never got to see any of those players play ? they are just stories I think now. When I started playing ginkky and rob siez where I think some of the best I remember whatching Mountvernon Tommy play alot him Gorge the Greek and chinese Micky but all three of them just past a couple of years ago I have herd so many old stories about guys from NY I wish I was around back then........

I read the first nine chapters of Johnny's book...

I really liked it. It will definitely be a book (or a series of books, hint hint...johnny) that will grab you and not let go. The characters interplay are exactly what you would expect from a couple of high caliber pool players and the action is practically non stop.... I look forward to being able to read the rest of it.

Get Crackin Johnny....

I want to thank the AZ Members that read and gave me good feedback on the first few chapters of the first draft. I also want to give a special thanks to all the women that read it. It's hard enough for a man to write about women as two main characters in a novel without feedback from women. Thank you ladies, I stand corrected on a lot of things I took for granted and it has been changed. Thank you all again everybody. I knew I could count on my friends on AZ for help. John
