Joshua Filler withdrawn from the Mosconi Cup!

The social media bullying of Joshua Filler continues. On Matchroom's Facebook Forum, somebody posted a photo of Joshua with a black face, which was shocking, racist, and disgusting to see in the year 2024. And what's worse is people had a field day mocking and ridiculing and demeaning Joshua on that thread.

YES SHOCKING - Is it demeaning to Joshua or black people?

The moderators eventually removed the thread, thank goodness. I found it upsetting to see, number one, but number two, it is this type of cyberbullying that can cause major depressions and, sadly, even suicide when it continues on and on and on and on. I do feel Joshua Filler is strong emotionally and mentally. You have to have that kind of strength to withstand the pressure of competing on a professional level, especially in front of the cameras.

FROM ABOVE.
Black people face far worse on a daily basis. I'm sure Joshua can cope with it. If not, he can seek councillors...

I think Matchroom's two-sentence cryptic message about removing Joshua from the Mosconi Cup is lacking, especially considering the uproar that has occurred because of it. I do not believe his removal has anything to do with how the other players feel. Sometimes Matchroom's admin staff with their cheeky replies off and on camera is not to my liking. In some cases, I think they enjoy the reaction by the public, wondering what the heck is going on.

I AGREE. MR seem to be pushing social media clickbait as part of their marketing and promotion campaign.

WPA sanctions events, they don't run shit. They're a bunch of stuffed-shirt carpet baggers who sit in Qatar and make national orgs and promoters(the people that actually DO shit) bow and kiss the ring 'godfather' style. Fk em. Pro pool does not need them.
Yeah I mean that's fine and all but the fact remains they "put on" events that pay out real money. May be a different structure but anyway.

That forum in general needs greater policing. Even the endless video shorts of guys with tables in the their backyard are enough to prevent me from partaking.

Cyberbullying is an adolescent problem (flame on). Kids can't prevent themselves from wondering what people have to say, good or bad, and can't emotionally detach themselves from that exposure. Adults, especially professionals in the public eye, either require a thicker skin or not bother to begin with. My point... Filler is a grown man. I expect him to act as one when people say mean things

The only person MR may owe an explanation to is Josh. ...and besides the things that happen to not jive with your liking has you discussing them. That's what they want... All the spectators watching/bitching about this melodrama are just feeding the machine. ....dance puppets.
I was the recipient of cyberbullying at one time, and I had dark thoughts. I got through it, thank goodness, but some never do.
That's a shame... the fact you allowed yourself to be exposed to it and subsequently allowed it to effect you in that manner. Glad you got to the other side. Hopefully with a thicker skin.

No they don't put on anything. All they do is bless/sanction. They don't do a thing in terms of running anything. They don't run, organize, promote, pay shit. All of the REAL work/details are done by promoters/organizers. They have pretty much tossed all their eggs in the Snooze, errrrr,Heyball basket. Even there all they do is sanction. All the grunt work and money comes from promoters/organizers. Professional pool would do just fine if the WPA was gone tomorrow.

Never gonna happen. Pool will never make these player rich enough to afford to go on strike. Herding cats would be breeze in comparison. Last thing pool needs is the stink of unions.

The last thing Pool needs is an association and a promoter dividing the players in order to conquer!

Thanks for sharing your opinions. I feel MR owes the public an explanation instead of a two-line cryptic message, knowing damn well everybody wonders what is going on.

I disagree with your thicker skin analogy, only because I do know adults and children who have died by suicide from cyberbullying. I'm glad you have a thicker skin to prevent it from happening to you, if it ever does. No everybody is cut from the same cloth, unfortunately.

The Surgeon General of the U.S. thinks children under 18 should not be allowed to use social media like Facebook. Of course, we know this will never happen.

Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Until you walk in the shoes of someone else, you may not know how they are being affected by cyberbullying.

Your previous post about "black face" is corrupted. I can't reply to it directly, in other words.

There is absolutely no excuse on the face of the Earth for anyone to post a black face, with malice aforethought, on another human being's photo, no matter what race or ethnicity they are. It is disgusting and has nothing to do with they should put their big pants on and just deal with it. Good grief!

You know what they say about opinions.... keep dancing. I'm sensing a theme

Yep, those who can't handle the mean aspects of the internet, probably shouldn't be exposed to it. Kids can't help themselves unfortunately. Those with the same insecurities and level of impulse control should also take the S.G's advice to heart as well.

No problem... ...and I have no idea how anyone is effected by anything. I do know that those who are adversely effected by 'whatever' shouldn't make the decision to actively expose themselves to 'whatever'.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to pro pool the last few years. MR has done more for the PRO game than ANYONE else in the last 25+yrs. The only outfit dividing anything is the WPA. Filler's current deal is of his own making. A union would only make things worse not better.

I've grown up watching cue sports and the growth of MR since it began managing Steve Davis.

MR are great for cue sports worldwide including pool. That said, they are not 100% innocent in what is happening now.

[Otherwise ALL the players worldwide would simply drop the WPA and ride alongside MR.]

It takes 2 too tango.

Agreed 💯

a union means an agreement of a group and working together for their benefit. it doesnt have to mean they become tyrants and strike.

but by working in concert they do get to have some say in what happens to them. as there isnt any real competition to the two groups who control the lives of the players , or at least their monetary futures.

My other half said when he was in his prime, social media did not exist, but a lot of chattering railbirds and others used to hate on him. In fact, he said this happens to some pro players in their peak when they show emotion. Often it is misinterpreted. As most who follow professional pool know, off camera, Joshua is humble and very nice. Again, this crap of he went back on his word and changed his mind does not cut the mustard for me, and I'm not afraid to speak up about it each and every time I see cyberbullying happening. I was the recipient of cyberbullying at one time, and I had dark thoughts. I got through it, thank goodness, but some never do.
Well said

I don't always agree with JAM as many of you know, but if she's right, she's right, and in this case she's 100% right.

Come to think of it, I agree with about 95% of what she says - it's that pesky 5% that has gotten us into some good ones lol

WNT (MR) is an org only for the elite of the game. The notion that they must be 'not good' because 'not everyone' wants to abandon their federation support is pre-school type logic.

i don't know enough about it, and i don't do facebook and all that, but i think it's safe to assume that filler can fade ppl talking bad about him. actual threats is a different matter.

They've tried forming Player's Associations at least five or six times in my years involved in Pool, and none of them ever lasted or accomplished much of anything. What Pool needs is something akin to the PGA Tour and it has it in the WNT. If the players stick with it and support it, they may one day be very happy they did. Many of them are pretty happy already. Ask Fedor how he liked receiving that 250K check. I bet he'll be smiling!

something like the PGATour advisory panel would not be a bad idea. Have a few guys that work with WNT HQ on tour issues but a full-on union just isn't needed. For the foreseeable future MR hold the cards(and the $doh-re-mi) and any attempt(s) by the players to get snarky over shit like what Filler BROUGHT ON HIMSELF will backfire in their face.

The problem, far too often, has been that the players associations have been delusional about their collective ability to strong arm the event producers that are the backbone of the pool scene. Instead of working WITH event producers, the players associations tended to have an adversarial relationship with them.
