Joshua Filler withdrawn from the Mosconi Cup!

What does the sport owe him or anyone else?? Look folks, he's an adult that signed a contract/agreement with MR/WNT. He's obviously gone afoul of it and is paying the price. He's not a victim here. HIS actions got him to where he's at. Integrity and one's word should still carry weight. Seems like everywhere you turn these days people want to whine and play the victim. I got two words for JF: GROW UP.
The thing is I don't see anywhere where he is playing the victim. We, the peanut gallery, are making him a victim. He's going about his business, playing pool, and traveling with his wife.

Pretty big blanket statement. Some are licensed and held to a higher standard. Others are considered entertainment, and simply pretend to be news. The weak minded can’t tell the difference.

They are all like that. I had a cousin die 15 years ago in a scuba diving accident. He had been diving for 20 years, and was trained in the military to dive. Sort of like we are for pool. The local TV news station in Philly, an ABC affiliate, reported "diver died during his first dive". It was his first dive "of the day". They made it seem like it was his first dive in his life. They all do shit like that to make the headline better.

Yes, I am aware. That doesn’t change the fact that actual news sources can suffer consequences from advancing false information, while the fake ones get a free pass.

I am in the news business. "Shit" like that isn't done to make headlines better. It's almost always the case of younger reporters being ignorant. Or general assignment reporters lacking expertise in any one thing.

I've worked with a lot of young reporters. They get things wrong simply by being young. Most are increasingly cloistered, growing up in liberal urban enclaves, the product of upper-middle class or upper class parents.

My father was a Navy diver. We learned how to dive as youngsters. Most reporters have zero clue what diving entails. It's a foreign world to them.

The decline in media profitability, what's more, has robbed many news organizations of enough experienced editors to prevent these sorts of errors.

The truth is, as usual, more mundane. ;)

we're veering off topic but there are companies specializing in generating clickbait and generic drivel, and selling their services to newspapers like the sun, daily express etc.

legacy media is dying and many of us aren't mourning

basically the promoters have a business model and that is of their choice. if you dont like it dont do business with them.

if you sign a contract with them you are obligated to do what you agreed to for the term of it. that was your choice you made. and your word.

if the majority of players want something different they need to have their own tournaments or form a union of some kind to get more say in what goes on.

This just in from Albin on FleeceBunk....

Still not clear what point Albin was trying to make.

He says you have to keep your mouth shut. But something is not a dictatorship. Is he saying MR is not a dictatorship?

If MR is not a dictatorship, why does he keep his mouth shut? I know some, perhaps, most players are reluctant to speak out. But I can't recall MR punishing anyone for doing so.

Niels Feijin criticized MR at the UK Open for too-tight pockets and he lived to tell the tale. Even got to the semis in the US Open.

For many, many years of my professional life I worked with members of the news media on a daily basis -- all the national networks and newspapers, foreign outlets, wire services, radio, trade publications, and radio. Given my military background I was often invited to various events around the country to speak on the topic of "Engaging the Media" from that perspective.

And, IMO, the foremost thing all the hundreds of reporters I worked with over the years tried to do was: to get in right.

Having said that, for a variety of reasons sometimes they didn't. Nowadays there are plenty of organizations masquerading as news outlets which are clearly biased one way or the other and the reality, in those cases, is that they aren't really news organizations to begin with. So, as with many things in life, folks need to take care in deciding who is making a good faith effort in telling them the truth and who is just blowing smoke up their ass.

the problem lou is that many or most people only want to hear what they want to hear or believe.

they turn off things that dont go to their beliefs.

years back news agencies made money by reporting the news correctly and if missed then asked for forgiveness with their apology.

now its more about generating the maximum income. and that means attracting viewers so they get more sponsors for the commercials.
reporting what brings in customers is the goal now.

Idk man I think all of this is hilarious. Has absolutely 0 effect on pool being played in every setting that isn't affiliated with MR or WPA which is 99% of all pool. I personally could not possibly care less who plays where. The fact that so many folks online feel so strongly about any of this is legitimately hilarious.

You voted for Trump, right?
Damn skippy. Not perfect but he has more integrity than creepy Joe or Kammie combined. Figured someone would veer off course and play the political card. Typical NPR shit. They can't defend their point so they go off on a tangent. I still can't figure why so many people are acting like this Filler tool is getting a raw deal. He brought this little shitstorm on himself. I couldn't care less if ever played another WNT event.

Yes, isn't it hilarious that serious fans of the pro game care whether they can expect to see the best possible fields at pool's major championships? Really, why would they care?

It's your every right to not care, but don't mock those of us who actually care about how all this will affect the pro game and the players' ability to earn a living at this game.

Can someone explain what's going on like I'm five? What's the history? What's the WNT?
Do your own homework. There's a 'SEARCH' function on here that can wonders for the clueless. Try to keep up with the rest of the class. There will be a test later. ;)
