Jump Cue NOT WORKING

Most of the time, when I am having trouble playing pool, whether it is pocketing ball, playing shape, breaking or jumping balls, all I have to do is to look in the mirror to find the problem.

I try not to dog anyone's product and I think I am fair about what I observe and of course, it is only my opinion and others might have different results.

I am a slow learner but I have learned that the Predator Air, while it is a good jump cue for cue balls that weigh approximately the same as a red circle cue ball, they are not designed to jump heavy bar table cue balls. Not only did I fail to hit the object ball but I also failed to jump over the impeding object ball on more than one occasion. I wasn't tired and I was using my fairly consistent technique but the heavier cue ball just gave me fits in this past tournament.

I think I will be looking at other break cues for jumping the heavy cue ball in the future.

seems to be a world of difference in bar table cue balls

Joey,

I was going to inquire if anybody knows where a really good comparison of all the bar table cue balls is. I read one awhile back but forget where it was. I played with the cat head a few days ago on the big table and that thing acted like it weighed a pound. If I remember right it has the metal and weight evenly distributed. Yesterday I played on the bar table awhile with the lightning bolt cue ball. I think it has a slug of metal in it and can roll funny. This one surely rolled funny, I don't know if it was the cue ball or the table but slow rolling was a bad idea. However this cue ball seemed very light compared to the set of big table balls that the rest of the set was on the table in the back. There were one or two of the dull colored bar table balls in the numbered balls but most were the glossy balls.

I have a feeling that you are going to have to learn each of the bar table cue balls used as a law unto itself. I know of at least four different ways that they have made the cue ball go one way and the other balls go the other way when pocketed.

You may still need a different jump cue so hopefully there will me some good comment about the current best. Seems like a recent thread favored one maker's, hard to come by of course that is what always makes something better! I think BigTruck had a couple. He should cut his guest commentator a sweetheart deal if you want one.

To my pal, Jay.

I've got bad news Joey. You can't buy a stroke!

YO GingerBread Man:

My stroke is probably a lot weaker than yours Jay but I would still play you some one pocket, race to 5-7 for $500, maybe even a thousand. I struggle with all games and seem to be playing worse than ever but yes, I would give you a shot at a few of my Shekels.

Now don't bother barking at me with your old tired bank pool game. I don't play that game and you already profess to being at a professional level with banks so we won't be playing that.

The only bank I know is where I will put your money when we play some even up one pocket. :woot:

JoeyA (knows that Jay won't be able to use that big stroke of his jumping balls when we play one pocket)

You have to remember that a bar table has thinner slate.I don`t know why but it does seem to make a difference. There is a room around here that has 9ft table with 3/4 inch slate and it is hard to jump on them.I can jump a ball on a big table(1 inch slate) a chalk width away.On a bar table I can`t.I can jump a full ball about 2-3 chalks away on a bar table. On a bar table you just have to put more stroke on the ball.

You're probably right about everything above, but you should let BigTruck or any other Jump Cue Maker realize the opportunity that is before them. :D

I think jump cues are just like pool cues. There is one specially made that will best suit your skill level and your physical makeup. The trouble is you have to find out which one best suits you.

Just to get an idea of how hard you will have to hit a MudBall, to get it over another ball, throw a mudball down on the slate & see how hard you will have to throw it, to get it over a ball.

Jumpin a mudball might take a real powerful stroke.

Turn it off and back on again and see if it works. If not then defrag it and run a virus scan. If that doesn't work just send it to me for proper disposal.....

Right here is the first part of your problem Joey. 3/4" slate has more give so jumping takes more stroke. Then add the effect of a heavy c/b and jumping becomes a real effort. Another example is jumping on 2" slate (Conley ultimate) jumping is simple with a full cue. 2" slate is like a slab of concrete. :D

The 3/4" slate on a Valley does give a bit when jumping, making it a lot harder to jump. I have tried The Frog, The Predetor, and a J B with a phenolic tip. The cheap cue with the phenolic tip jumps well on 3/4" slate. Johnnyt

Never been crazy about the Pred Air jumper. There's a lot of players out there much better than me that love them, but I personally think the plastic shaft is too flexible and doesn't transfer energy into the cue ball as easily as well made wood jump cues similar in weight.

When I had a Pred Air, it seemed like you could do more things with it as far as back spin, sidespin, but if you were just a little off, the thing would really punish you.

Try a Lomax when you get a chance. :D

Good luck!

jump cue

I like the bungee and lucasi,
Mess and air-time make a mean jump cue as well..
I had Worked in a pool room for years, used to hit balls every chance I got with who ever and met losts of players..just about all of em had a jump cue, I got to try out lots of jump cues..lol..
_there is a few I did not come across and some new ones I have not used...
P.S jump shots on rug cloth or loose cloth don't work out like they do on tightly stretched tournament play cloth...I'm no pro player, just my option
-
Good luck on your jump shots
