I think the more rep points you have, the more green you give.
So if someone like Hu or Joey likes a new member's post.....
..they'll make him look like Ireland..:D

Even a single one of my positive reps will turn someone all green.

Broken system.

Yes, there needs to be some kind of adjustment. When you give green rep, the recipient gets new rep points that are 1% of your total. It takes about 40,000 points to get 11 greenies. Most of the frequent posters have more than 4,000,000 rep points, so any rep from them is instant magic. Lots of posters have more than 400,000,000 rep points, so a nod from them turns even a newbie into a magician.

When the rep first started, those of us who were members, it took a long, long, long time to get all 11 green square above our avatars. Today, as you said, a member can get it with one green rep from a veteran member who's hit the 2,147,483,657 point level.

When a member reaches 2,147,483,657 points in their rep count, they cannot exceed that. It stays the same number.

In fact, if you hit the Member List and then click Reputation, all those who have hit the top number of 2,147,483,647 will have their names in alphabetical order, with the exception of Smorg who will always remain number one. IOW, there is no more rep system once you hit that number.

A while back, I had gotten about five or six greenies in one day, and I noticed that my point number had not changed. I did not realize at that time that the reason my number did not change is because I had reached the maximum allowable rep points. :embarrassed2:

Yet one would think that a couple of pokes in the red department from those same folks should move the needle appreciably, as well. It seems as though that doesn't apply.

Its part of the AZ stimulus package. All the people with the most rep point are spreading them with the less fortunate :) I actually have hit my rep cieling and need someone to raise it for me if possible. But we have toget it passes by Jay, Jewett, Fatboy and Jam. Once they agree we can send it to Mike Azhousepro to sign and I will be good for 6 months. Fingers crossed :)

We've hit the rep ceiling, and time is running out for the AzBilliards stimulus package. If a decision isn't made soon, there will be no more rep, I tell you. NO MORE REP!

I heard there's an independent faction meeting later tonight on the NPR forum to form the AzBilliards Tea Party. They'll put the pressure on to get this rep ceiling extended. :p

very intersting thoughts and comments. i knew how the rep worked. my sarcasm was leaning more towards the side of - alot of them turn out to be trolls. which leads me to think that thier master troll screen name they have kept in good standing and perhaps they are using it to feed their little baby trolls. until which time they decide to flame the baby and kill it by way of banning.
just my thoughts and musings as i don't get on post as much as i used to. but i still lurk around. it's just getting tougher and tougher to fade the nonsense and get to actual good posts that are worth reading.
and jam why are you wasting valuable time responding to my useless wonderings. don't you have to book about that wonderful man of yours to finish up and get out? i need good stories to read damn it. and i can't think of anything better than a book about keith. as i am waiting for that book i keep saying - it's like a nightmare isn't it. it just keeps getting worse and worse doesn't it. PLEASE, put that man's story to paper and get it out to us!

Didn't know how to give reps, or even how to look at them until this I created this troll account. I'll have an army in two days.

2 147 483 647 point(s) total

I don't understand rep points. Am I maxed out?

I couldn't get Pocket Point to turn red.

I don't know the details, but I too have noticed that it seems to take more to turn someone red than it does to turn them all green...

yes , Blue , you are maxed , and in our GIANT tie for 2nd. (Smorg will forever be #1)
Redballs deduct significantly fewer points than greens add . By example , from the #2 position , my greens have a value of over 20 million points. In addition to the greens having a value of 1% of your rep total , there is also a bonus factor which is based on # of posts. Therefore , even though Sev and I have an equal # of points , his 25,000 posts give him a much stronger green rep than my 1,500 . My redballs , however , deduct a humble 1 million points each. Plus , I must wait 72 hours between reds , and must have given green rep to a variety of other posters in that time period .So to turn a veteran poster like Pocket Point red , it would take a concerted effort by a group of posters over a period of time . Smorg used to call these "Bombing Runs" !
Unfortunately , due to the high value of green reps , one friend of the poster which you're attacking can undo the damage done by 40 like-minded bombers .

Smorg worked out the rep point thing long ago or some of his supporters did. You give out 1/2 the red rep that you give out green so it takes two heavy hitters tagging you with red to undo one green. At least that was the info I heard. Hard to put anybody into red that has been around awhile and gotten a few greens from big hitters.

I do wonder if we are all maxed out at two billion and change or if our rep still goes up and the counter is what is topped out. Idle curiosity, it doesn't really matter.

No , it stands at red deducts around a million , but 2nd place can green 20-40 million depending on post count . It's 1% of the rep total , plus some multiplier based on post count . JAM posted the users manual for vBulletin software a few months ago , and it explained it that way.
In our this winters red war against Sheldon , he was receiving frequent red from many #2 repho's , and no green from anyone , and while we were moving him down , we weren't moving him far or fast !
Always thought it was a really strange number to top out at , ain't it ?

not really

The secret is the number is really stored in hex. One more point would require another place holder which the software doesn't have. The counter stopped just before two billion base 16, 7fffffff. I'll take credit for that one, I think I was the first to point it out way back when.

Gee, jrt30004, dunno. You've posted four times as much as me, been a member since 2008 while I joined last year and didn't really post until a few months ago, and you've got the same rep as me.

I remember that when I first posted you insanely ranted that I was sc5, I think, or some other poster, who was pretending to be me. I dunno. Maybe because you're annoying?
