I have used these tips for a few years or so .
They only last me 2 months or so .
Anyone else have that same problem ?

What I have noticed is after a couple of months they start glazing over, and if I don't scuff them up I start miscuing.

These tips need constant attention more so then other tips I had, at least that has been my experience.

Yes, they last about that long for me. And I agree that they glaze, which is a problem. Bottom line is that they cost too much for the little time you get to use them. I've tried a number of tips, each less than $7 each and have been as pleased with them as the kamui products. $20+ for a tip, seriously???

kamui tips

all of the ones I have installed on my cue and on my customers cues seem to last a about a year.

I sand and shape mine and even soft break with it.

The tip getting harder when it getting down in size could be caused by wicking the tip with thin CA.

Kamui black non clear tips are known for being a nightmare for falling off.
so the cue repair guys wick the glue side of the tip with thin CA.

Its like putting water on a sponge, the tip will soak up allot of CA glue.
It has to make part of the tip harder because of all the CA.

You might try the Kamui clear tips !

I think they are a good tip, but I like to try to hit center cue ball as much as I can and almost any tip works about the same.

I have a few shafts for my main player all with different tips and I always carry a spare cue too.

Triangles onxy sniper ultra skins moori , kamui I shoot with any or all the tips.

I dont use a ss but I do use kamui black S and this same tip has been in use for over 2 years and I had about 1/4 of it cut off when newly installed.

great performance, holds it's shape real well and has only needed mild scuffing every so often.

I'm very satisfied.

I have heard similar complaints from other ss users. must be these supersoft ones wear fast.

best,
brian kc

I use the Black SS... they usually last me around 6 months and I dont have the glazing problem with them. At least not anymore then any other tip. Plus it maintains it's shape pretty well. I like them. I don't have it trimmed down much at installation either. Maybe 1/4 of it at the most.

I play a lot, but I'm not pro either...

I had a Kamui SS black installed on my main player. Had about a 1/4 cut down on it and it lasted about 6 months of infrequent play. Hard and roughing it up seems not to help.

another back up shaft that Im using now also has a kamui SS black installed. I have been using it about two months and no issues. Have to wait and see that is my experience thinking about milk duds next but closest repair man ill use is 4 hours away. need a dang lathe.

worth mentioning:

like with many popular tips, be very alert to the fact that there are lots of counterfeits out there.

make sure you are getting your kamui tips from an authorized kamui dealer or know you are taking a risk.

and, of course, the knockoff aren't gonna perform well.

best,
brian kc

Hi there!
Had the same, maybe not 2 months but not more than 4!
I'm using the "clear"now, seems to last a bit more.....so far!
For the glazing, I check and re-burnish the side quite often.
No mushrooming so far.
Hope this helps.

Happy shooting :)

It seems like every black tip i have ever had or put on for customers have glazed over and gotten harder faster than the brown tips. I assume it is either the fact that most black tips are water buffalo vs the brown pig skin or the dye used to turn the tips black. I quit using black tips for my personal cues several years ago because of this. I personally prefer a hard tip and play with a Wizard hard and have not found anything that I like as much as them. The black tips just glaze over too fast and start miscueing sooner than the brown. As hard as my tip is new I still cut it down to 4 layers to make it harder, yet I still get less miscues than people with SS black tips. JMO on why it happens, but that is my personal experiences.

Chris, Kamui's all get real hard after use. And they are way "High Maintenance"

Try one of Renfro's K-Tech soft. I promise you, you'll never look back. these out perform the SS's all day long, and are very low maintenance. I know it sounds crazy, a single layer that plays better than a Kamui, but they work, and I love Kamui ss. I'm just tired of the constant work involved in keeping them up. I have 4mo on this tip, and have touched it twice.

I will add that mine are fairly tall, I don't like it, and usually have them cut down, but for the money they cost, I wanted to get as much use out of them as I could.

When it is time to replace these tips on my player I think I want to try Renfros K-Techs.

If I paid $35 for a tip with install, I'd expect it to maintain itself. Mine cost 35 cents each. I have no idea how we ever got the CB to move or spin with a one layered tip. Johnnyt

Try a Ki-Tech Soft. I went from a Kamui Soft to those, and it's quite a bit softer at first, then firms up a bit, but still feels pliable on the cueball hit, like an eraser. Has not glazed or gotten mushroomed in months of use, including breaking with it every so oftern.

Even if the Kamui was the same price, I'd pick the Ki-Tech due to the fact that the Kamui hardened up a lot over a few months, the Ki-Tech stayed close to the same firmness.

Using this logic a 70,000 Mercedes should be able to maintain itself too.

Just sayin :grin-square:

I bought my 2002 Mustang new and it still looks like new and runs the same. If we take care of things they last. Funny, a lot of the foreclosed houses on the blocks around me had $70,000 auto's in the driveway. ;) Johnnyt
