Condolences to family and friends. Kevin was one of the better Az'ers and will be missed.
It's with great sorrow that I report to this group that Kevin Brewer, one of my best friends, a friend I made in a pool room in 1978 and counted among my best friends ever since, passed away yesterday from a sudden heart attack.
He was an amazing "one-of-a-kind" character with endless charm, wit and wisdom. Everyone he touched will miss him, few more than me.
Love ya man,
Joe
I see that AZ has "stickied" this thread, further proof of the impact Kevin had on all he touched. I spoke with Dawn, his partner and soulmate for 35ish years today and have a bit of information to pass along.
I have been asked by many people about funeral arrangements, etc. and here is what I know:
There will be no formal funeral, Kevin was far too upbeat to want anyone to sit through a formal service. Dawn prefers to honor Kevin with a celebration of joy, rather than one of sorrow, fitting for all who knew him.
The exact timing is yet to be determined but the plan is for a gathering, ideally at the beach in Los Angeles. The dress code will be the more casual the better. Flip flops and t-shirts, ideally with the shirts containing an upbeat or lighthearted message. Dawn hopes some of the ladies will be in bikinis, my guess is that Kevin shares that hope....![]()
Some of Kevin's favorite food, drink and music will also be present. He spoke fondly of the many "everyday people" who sat around drinking and telling stories at his father's funeral and Dawn thinks that is the part he'd like for himself. I'm sure I've neglected some details but expect a celebration of his life, not a mourning of his passing.
In any event, Dawn's happiness at the thought of celebrating his joyful life clearly seeped through all the tears and sorrow. The "party" will be open for all to enjoy and I will likely create a separate thread to announce details once they have been determined.
Until then,
Joe
