I have been listening on a number of the streams to quite a few veiled, and some less veiled references to Shane's going off in the casinos for big $$$.

I am met with a few emotions when hearing these, and, btw, the comments are from various guys, both on the Ultimate10b and now the Great Southern streams.

So, to be clear - *they* have made this public knowledge.

The two main feelings I have when hearing this on the streams are:

1. he's a grown man, why are you putting his business on the street?

2. if you have something to say about it on air, then come out and say it for crying out loud and stop with the cowardly (imo) drive-by one-liners followed by silence.

what's the point of it?

do you want to have an intervention for him?

are you trying to come across like journalists with a scoop?

the one that put me over the edge was just moments ago when Shane lost his 9b match to Jayson Shaw and Geoff Conway said "I wonder if Shane has enough money left to do the buyback". Then nothing else.

gee, I wonder if svb will be able to find it.

You guys behind the mics should probably zip it or short of doing that, then go all the way the other direction and make it a topic of discussion.

All of the veiled zingers followed by dead air make you all look weak.

in my opinion.

best,
brian kc

I don't understand it either...What Shane does on or off the table really shouldn't matter..Like you said..It's the latest scoop..an so goes the drama queens rumor mill
of pool yet again..

hope you have a good weekend.

Conway Mr Doom and Gloom......He always wants to knock and american player when he is matched up against one of his boyz from across the pond. Ill bet money he was steaking Jason.......

This was put up on AZ a few years ago, saying he lost a lot in the casinos. A well known and respected AZ member and a friend of Shane's said then that it was not true. Casinos are for losers.

I done a lot of crazy stuff in my 72 years but I have never stepped foot in a casino. My Dad use to deliver and set up 1 arm bandits and other gambling games in bars (basements) all over Long Island for Julie Klein (FBI public enemy #1 for awhile and local teamster boss for trucking and cement) and also for Al Ford (the vending machine king of L.I. at the time. I would hear them all talking about all the money they made off the suckers that didn't have a clue they could never win in the long run. Johnnyt

Not a big deal.. if he's blowing 20G and leaving 80G at home.

Otherwise, we're going to end up with another story about a former top pro that needs everybody's sympathy and help because he couldn't take advantage of the great gift and opportunity that was there for him. Meanwhile, us dancing desk monkeys grind away our days so that we can pay the bills and have a dinner outside the house once in a while.

No wonder even some pro pool players want nothing to do with other pro pool players.

Here's an idea for a pool hall that'll make money..

Put a half dozen Diamond 9s in the middle of a casino and see how far the money gets from the table before the house has hands on it.

Regular games i.e. slots, most table games yes you will lose in the long run....as far as poker goes, well depends on the casino and players that go there, but where I play on occasion 200nl is very beatable....it's comparable to 25nl online in fact which can be tougher depending on the site lol.

I really feel it is news because pool players as a whole like to hear stories about other people losing. They get jealous when they hear about other people winning.

So SVB could kick my arse on the tables ... but *snicker, snicker* he lost a TON in the casinos. That type of mentality.

Gambling is an occupational hazard for a pool player. It doesn't mean they all do it, but a lot of them do. You should see Efren in the casinos. :D

i believe it is the comentators job / responsibility to discuss any issues deemed to be relevant to the players performance.

Ya know first of all Geoff Conway is terrible and should be kept far from a mic. He works for free when they need an extra voice but Honeatly I'd rather hit mute, and do.

Aside from that, what Shane or anyone else does with their money is on them and nobody's business. Just because that nit has no gamble doesn't mean other cannot have fun with their money. I'd bet Shane is doing ok with money.

SVB too nitty...

I thought Shane was too nitty to go off in a casino? I'm being dead serious too. He's really kind of nitty in my opinion. I've gambled with him a couple different times. But then again I know a lot of nitty people that won't bet their alive at the poolroom but blow their dough left and right at the casinos. Really kind of strange.

Well, one way to look at it is that casinos that host pool tournaments *love* those who gamble on their table games. Pool players that gamble on the table games while at these host casinos are doing their part to help the tournament be hosted again in the future.

At Turning Stone Casino, every pit boss knows who Keith is and they treat him like royalty. :D

Don't think someone's hobby of playing in casinos is private business that shouldn't be mentioned.
Gambling in casinos is a pastime, like hitting golf balls or bass fishing.
If he goes in a public place to do something perfectly legal and common,
it's not some dirty little secret they need to keep under wraps.

Even mentioning that he lost big isn't really a knock on the guy, that happens sometimes.
It's a casino, you're supposed to lose.

I do agree though that it's lame to imply he has a problem or he's foolishly betting the last few dollars in his bank account.
If he's not betting more than he can afford to lose then they could just say something like
"well shane had no luck at the blackjack table last night, but he's having plenty of luck on the pool table."

I missed it though and would have liked to hear the context, I suspect they were joking.
Who knows, maybe shane would have laughed to hear it.

He won 8 dimes in the tournament, lost a chunk on the table games, won some of it back, and had fun during the process. Nothing wrong with that!

I'm afraid SVB has lost his way.

Just playing off of your other thread obviously. Did he comment on how much he lost? Maybe he just saw him at a table lose a hand or two and ran with it. Not all people in casinos are degenerates. It's a form of entertainment.

Yes, gambling has ruined more than a few people. But that speaks more of those people than the casinos IMO. If you can't control yourself, don't go in. If that doesn't work, call 1-888-Gambler for help.

I go to casinos. Sometimes I lose, sometimes I win. Just a form of entertainment for me. I'm not betting my mortgage payment.

It is an addiction-It has ruined many lives-not as many as drugs and alcohol but plenty still . Im not saying he has the disease but if he does, He will be chasing or could be chasing after his money and staying broke for a long long time- especially trying to beat the casinos.

I had the disease. For me -way easier to beat than cigs, alcohol and late in life pain pills (the worst). Haha. I use to bet the horses a lot and then id have a big 900 number phone bill also from calling it to get results. Of course i'd call it too early also-some times 2 or 3 times to get the same result-Brutal

For some sports bets, i use to have my ear to the radio- (in NY) trying to bring in WOWO-Ft Wayne Indiana or some Chicago station that you'd get a a barely audible signal on one out of every 15 minutes or so. I finally smartened up at about 32-35 years old im guessing.
