Little Bar Box Tip

On a bar box (any brand) often you will have BIH after the break from a scratch or BIH early in the game when most or all of the balls are still on the table. The 1-ball is at the short rail at one end of the table and the 2-ball is at the other end rail. Many times I see players, especially players that play mostly on 9’ tables take BIH, make the 1-ball in the closest pocket and go one, two, or three rail through all the balls on the table to get to the other short rail.

Often the 1-ball has a clear path to one of the down-table corner pockets. With BIH if the 1-ball goes the QB can follow w/o any obstacle balls to run into. I think some players are so use to taking the easy shot on the 1-ball instead of the long shot down table. There are really no long shots on a bar box and it’s a lot easier to control the QB with follow. If this seems like Captain Obvious to you just watch a BB stream or watch players live and see how many play the one in the closest corner and hit a ball going down table or miss position over/under trying to go the rails way. Sounds like a great tip. I play 99% of the time on 9' tables, so I'll keep this in mind. I assume this is what you are recommending (path A versus B).

Nice tip, even for a big table. I'm guilty of habitual shot selection and will remember this one.

Always shoot the toughest shots first. You gotta get them out of the way early.

This is too simplified. I think the toughest shots should usually be taken with ball in hand, but always in the order that makes table control most likely, which isn't necessarily first.

That's a good tip. I almost always play the shot the way mosconiac drew it on the Cue Table. Sometimes though, if using a cue ball that is playing light, I will opt to draw back for the 2-ball, as a "light-playing" cue ball often does not follow well.
