Live NOW! Austin Murphy vs. Efren Reyes

I've seen it 100's of times. Put an up and coming kid in with a champ that knows all the ropes and the kid is NEVER the same after hit gets beat bad. And he was holding back tears during the interview. Johnnyt

I have to admit the video has been great here. I have to thank the IPT for that. But I think they need to do away with the fan voting for who plays. You get people voting for someone 100 times. Then you get what you have tonight...a mismatch. Johnnyt

Kinda funny watching the kid's Dad trying not to stare at Rebecca's tits during the "interview"...LOL

Those aren't Rebecca's tits. They belong to the Goodyear Rubber Co. If they do anything for ya, I believe there is a website where you can buy the whole inflatable doll. :)

I was wondering why she looked so familiar... :)

not bad

Austin actually showed a lot of heart and maturity. When he accepted that he was almost certain to lose he relaxed and put together three good outs in a row including the only break and run of the night I believe, for sure until that point.

Having seen it happen in other IPT extravaganzas I wasn't surprised to see Efren back off quite a bit once he built a big lead but when Austin ran the second out to win two games in a row you could see Efren putting on his battle face on the sidelines. The break and run came after that and the most serious Efren of the night came to the table when he got his chance. He had absolutely no intention of having the story spread worldwide overnight of a fourteen year old coming back from a huge deficit and beating him. Although Austin had played some outstanding shots and position in his brief flurry it was all over but the crying then.

Austin did play some canny safes on Efren, more of them and he might have slowed him down a bit. Austin is definitely a shot maker now. When he has more experience knowing when to shoot and when to duck his game will be even stronger. Unfortunately for Austin, Efren seemed to always have another gear anytime he needed it.

Final note on this match, at least at first Sigel made a real effort to say "Efren", apparently all of the razzing on this forum and others didn't go unnoticed.

As for the undercard, strapping an 84 ball inning on Oliver was all John needed to own him on this table. John fumbled a bit when he didn't close things out with three balls left to run but the writing was on the wall after his one huge run. Eighty-four balls are a long ways from 400 but on that table with those pockets and cloth a sixty-odd ball lead was a bunch.

Not a bad night of pool after some initial trouble getting into the broadcast. Worth every penny I paid for it!

He is only 14. How much do you think he should have accumulated by now?

I am sure that a more experienced player would be playing better. However Austin won the viewer's choice - and kudos to the IPT for doing what the viewers wanted to see.

I guess the only thing I can say is that a solution is for players to get out there and market pool so that more people outside of the hard core fans will participate in events like this. They say a rising tide lifts all boats.

So here is a chance for players to aggressively market pool in a grassroots fashion and try to get interest started virally.

I agree.. He's only 14/15, but he has also played in probably 3000 tournaments at minimum... I have probably played in 5-600?

I have to agree. NO disrespect to the kid but absent Efren having a heart attack he had no chance to even stay in the match let alone win.

He got creamed against Efren's B- game...a fact about which there could have been no doubt.

I thought it was kind of sad on several levels. One, for Austin who obviously took the whole thing much more seriously than he should have.

And the whole thing struck me as sort of a circus side show.

And yes, the fan voting thing is silly.

Jim

Well I predicted the kid would get 8 and I was wrong. Someone posted an offer to bet that the kid would get 6. Bet he's happy.

What is wrong with fan voting?

This wasnt a tourney ...
This wasnt a gambling match...
This want a grudge match....
It was just an exhibition... nothing more nothing less...

The kid came here are campaigned a little bit and won a seat at the table with ER.. good job to him.

I actually dont think anybody would have really gave it a second look if twiddle dumb and twiddle dumber didnt start running their mouths the way that they did...
