Just as the title says, Luke Riches of Matchroom Sports and the Mosconi Cup will be joining me next week on my segment "The Legends and Champions Report" on American Billiard Radio next week.
Please chime in here and let me know some questions you think I should ask since Mosconi Fever is starting early this year.

Are there any plans to air the 2014 Mosconi Cup 'live' in the USA and is there anything the American Pool Community / American Billiards Industry can do to help or assist in making this happen?

Why was I overlooked as the American Captain and coach?

What are my odds of making the team as a player? 3:1?

When can we expect Matchroom to take back the World 9 Ball Championship and once again give it the respect and showcase that it deserves and needs ?

PS Please hurry!! Cardiff Rules!!

Has matchroom empowered the USA captain this year??? Does he get to select his team? Discipline his team? What is Mark's term as coach? What criteria is matchroom using to select team members this year?

Will have only American's that love to kick Europe A$$ES.. Johnnyt

1) Has he ever given serious thought to the notion of the Mosconi Cup becoming Team Europe vs Team America, and including Canada in the mix to attempt to make the teams more even.

It would seem that a country vs a continent is not really working, the USA is clearly outclassed. Can we perhaps see Team USA given some help and become Team America?

2) The Mosconi Cup is likely the most viewed pool event by the general public. The general public (not the small niche of zealot pool fans on AZB) in both America "and" Europe tend to largely favor 8-ball as a game they play and understand.

What are Lukes thoughts to 8-ball being the game in the Mosconi Cup potentially increasing the viewership and interest outside of the niche of pool fans and into the broader general public who might take notice of the Mosconi Cup on a TV at the pub if it was 8-ball being played?

3) It is hard to argue that the game of pool is dying in most regions of the world atm. If there is one area that seems to have steady and growing support for pool it is in Asia.

Would it be possible in the future to see the Mosconi Cup format change to include 3 teams playing in a round robin format with Team Asia joining Team Europe and Team USA/America?

The format as an example could be like this

Match 1: Team America vs Team Europe 5 vs 5
Match 2: Team Asia vs Team Europe 5 vs 5
Match 3 Team Asia vs Team America 5 vs 5
Match 4: Team Asia vs Team Europe 1 vs 1
Match 5: Team America vs Team Europe 1 vs 1
Match 6 Team Europe vs Team Asia 1 vs 1
ect....

A team is eliminated when they lose 8 matches and the event then becomes between the two remaining teams.

Thus if the score becomes

Team America: 5 loses
Team Asia: 4 loses
Team Europe: 8 loses

Then Team Europe would be eliminated and the event would continue with Team America playing Team Asia in the remaining matches.

Team Asia would need to win three matches from there (thus giving Team America 8 loses) before Team America wins 4 matches (thus giving Team Asia 8 loses).

The maximum number of matches that could be played in a format like this would be 23 matches (two teams with 8 loses and the winning team with 7 loses). Similar to the potential maximum number of matches in the current Mosconi Cup 2 team format,

The potential growth of the Mosconi Cup viewership, TV deals, and Asian sponsorship/advertising deals when you open up the Asian market to the event could be quite significant and the above would give a very easy to understand format and a very dynamic and exciting event.

It's been rumored there may be a pre-Cup tour of sorts for the US. Will this happen? And will the Euro team be afforded the same opportunity?

For Luke Riches:

Question No. 1: Are you married, in a relationship, or single? I'm sure the single ladies would like to know the answer to this question. :grin-loving:

Question No. 2: Are you involved in other aspects of Matchroom Sport activities, like boxing, darts, snooker, et cetera? :)

Quesiton No. 3: Does Barry Hearn really enjoy listening to American country music while he fishes for carp in his back yard, and which is his favorite country musician?

I think that ABR radio is really providing an excellent service to us pool aficionados. I'm really digging the fact that they are keeping up with the current trends and happenings in the pool world. Having different guests each week is very innovative and cool. Love this ABR radio.

Bravo! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Once Team Europe's captain is picked, will their captain also be picking the five players just as here in the U.S. ?

Even if they end up having the same captain for one more year as Darren Appleton
said was probably going to be the case, will he pick the five players ?

Please ask Luke about the viewing figures / ratings in Europe, Asia, UK etc for their various pool and snooker events.

Colin, click that first link in my sig line. Craig Riley aka "The One" shared it on FB. It's an Australian restaurant. Love, Love, Love this website, ESPECIALLY the music. And look at the menu. WOW!

Some great questions here. I will do my best to fit them all in. Some answers will just come out as the chat goes along.

Will they make it easier for U.S. Viewers to watch it this year? If not a tv deal,at least an official stream? Kinda ridiculous having to search for a stream in the U.S. To watch team U.S.A. play.

team America. .

Yeah, I was actually thinking they should use that song on the intro for the team were they to do it. It is not like language is an issue that can be controlled and it would be priceless given the attitude of America of late in the event. Might as well ham it up.

Looks delicious JAM, lol.

Have been in touch with Craig. He's an hour north of me by plane, so not too easy to have a bash, but we intend to. We met up about 10 years ago in Shanghai and had some fun drinking pool slogging nights together
