Mainly for Billy Incardona, Who should be the new generation commentary king(s)

Joe Rogan Joe Rogan Joe Rogan

This is a good suggestion. Joe brings a lot of professionalism and energy to a broadcast.

I think Joe and someone from AZ, like Joey or Lou, would be great to bring some game tech and forum relevance. I did some commentary with Joey a few years ago and he was great but started lagging towards the end (probably because of his age) and I had to carry him for quite a bit. That we didn't agree on much re: shot selection didn't help :-)

that?

I know you got me on ignore, but that's funny Lou..

I always bet against Frost in one pocket.... but I really liked him as a commentator. He obviously knows the game inside and out, and he has a good voice, dialog, and he actually talks about the situation at hand.

Kenny is too overbearing. He talks non-stop, and he talks over his co-commentator. If producers are listening, they really need to pay attention here. Let one guy speak, then the other guy. Its no good if both guys are always talking over each other. A few good things about Kenny is he stays on the game, and is knowledgable.

Some of the smaller streamers (Alvin) ramble on about nothing to do with the game and its annoying.

My favorite of all time is Bentivegna. That guy was interesting to listen to. Always had good insights on the situation at hand, and had an occasional action story to throw in.

I'm also a big fan of "Billy & Grady" commentary match, as a matter of fact I buy any match that they both commentated on just to hear them, that's how interesting team they were. I love it when they argue, and debate things, it is so exciting to listen to, you could learn a lot from their arguments believe it or not.

I'm going to be honest here, I hate most of the new commentators - I won't name names, but they are so bad that they make me wanting to mute the audio, some of them are great people, but they are not cut out to commentate on a match of pool because they make the match less interesting to me.

There are many pointers as of why they make it less interesting but I am going to say an example, Billy Incardona would never tell you a stated as "Oh he's out" when a player just finished breaking the balls, this would remove intensity & fun out of a watching a match, most new commentators would say this "Oh he has a shot, every ball is in the open, he should be out" and really I hate this even though it's true, but Billy would always tell you what the problem in a rack and often he is right. Billy will tell you that in order for him to get out he needs a "this" angle on the 4 ball, so he needs to get perfect on the 3 ball, so then he could get on the key ball the "5ball" . if you get my drill he always point out a key ball in a rack even if the rack is easy. and he tells you that he need to focus, in other words he keeps it interesting and exciting no matter what.

That's just one example, but he has a way of making the whole game interesting and exciting, the new commentators most of them make a great game bad, while Grady and Billy they make a bad game look great.

So yes, commentating is so important to the game of pool, some streamers & pool tvs really don't get this and ruin a tournament/match, it is like the most important thing in the game for it to succeed to pick a great commentator that can make it more exciting to watch.

Billy and Scott Frost together in the booth is still the best commentary I've ever seen/heard.

I remember Billy or Cory D and then Scott joined in for some one pocket a while back (Maybe DCC 2011). They killed it. Billy wanted text book one pocket solutions. Scott wanted to power one pocket the moon and Cory was from Venus.

They had me in stitches.

I remember that match: Reyes vs. Gentile, one-pocket race to 5 in DCC finals. Up until that point I thought Billy was a great commentator...but this wasn't his day. Billy picked fights with Scott; Scott fought back with Billy; and they both picked on Corey. It was so distracting I muted the audio. Individually I think they're all good, but together it was a train wreck.

*********

I like the idea of Joe Rogan because he has a good sense of timing (comics have the best timing). He'd know when to talk and when to shut up. I think he's pretty good friends with Max Eberle; they could make a good combo.

The problem with Rogan is, unlike pool players, he works. That's right, he has a paying career. Imagine that.

I agree that was a great match, and I don't remember any of the shots. I'll end up watching it again for the commentary.

I think Jeremy in the booth with Billy could spot the commentary world the 7. Shannon would be a great choice as well I would think.

It was the US Open 1 Pocket match not DCC in case anyone is looking for it on Youtube.

Grady and Billy were one of the great commentary teams in sports. Which only goes to show that you need a good foil in the booth because it's not about the individuals as much as the chemistry the two commentators create when thrown together.

I think you guys talking about the finals of of the 2011 US Open One Pocket. I was sitting next to Corey,Scott and Billy when they were going at each other. I was worried Billy was gonna snap and stab them both. It was awesome.

For me, Jimmy Wych is the best commentator. Of the ladies, it's Ewa Laurance.

I'd just like to have a moment of silence for two of the greats in pool commentary:

Sid Wadell..........R.I.P.

Grady Matthews..........R.I.P

Both were great for the sport. Both are missed!!!

Sid.. was interesting to listen to LOL.

He LIKED TO.. emphasize words THAT were not THE MAIN part of the sentence. Just look AT THAT shot that he JUST made, it was amazing TO see.

Keith as in McCready? Fun guy to watch, but I don't think he's cut out for public speaking hehe.

Let me assure you that when McCready speaks, *everybody* listens -- and hangs onto his every word. :D

As far as *public* speaking, my only experience with that was sitting in the booth with Keith and J.R. Calvert at the Derby City Classic. I was sitting on pins and needles wondering what was going to come out of Keith's mouth next.

He's definitely got the gift of gab. Whether it's good for commentating would be in the ear of the beholder.

Keith is great to listen to, but Mike Wallace he's not ;) He makes a great interviewee rather than the interviewer.
