Mark Tadd at the Reno Open

You are getting old

Mark was 17-24th last year. I know, I staked him then too.

Check the usppa website. He finished 25-32. They list him as 30 but technically 25th.. Won $275. Does that ring a bell?

I stand corrected. He did win $275. I told him to keep the money for his efforts. I didn't take a dime back.

i saw mark in raleigh n.c.(brass tap) stand right in front of archer, earl, tony ellin,etc... and say" all you world champions got the last 2 and i'm gonna play with this 100 dollar sneaky pete" no one spoke up. lol. this was the first time i ever met tony watson, and he was 13. watched him beat mccready 11-2 this very same night. (tournament match)this had to be 89,90,91 or so. ritchie rich, mark gregory, cliff joiner, mike coltrane, eugene browning etc.. were all there. ahhh the good old days.

Some strange stuff going on up in Reno. They won't let Mark play in the same jeans he has been wearing all week. Now he is on a mad dash to find a store where he can buy some pants, and get back in time to not be forfeited.

I just got off the phone with Scott Smith. I asked him what was going on and he told me that Mark can't play in jeans on the final day, but on all other days it was okay. What a crock! So I asked him if he was going to forfeit Mark in the Hot Seat match. That would be the biggest black mark that tournament could ever get.

I think it is one big shark move, and I am thoroughly pissed right now. I don't like this one bit and I'm not going to sit still for it. YOU DO NOT PULL STUFF LIKE THIS ON A PLAYER PREPARING TO PLAY FOR THE HOT SEAT AT A MAJOR TOURNAMENT!! A BAD MOVE AT BEST!

Jay,

I would say the TD definitely should have reminded Mark of the requirement after his last match yesterday... That being said, keep in mind Mark hasn't been there on the final day of a major (yes, I do still consider the Sands as a major) in years and years. They should not forfeit him under any circumstances..

Hasn't this requirement been in place at quite a few tournaments in the recent past, though?

And another question... Why on earth couldn't one of the other players lend him a clean pair of slacks for the last day? Mark is not an especially large/small guy, so I would imagine SOMEbody could have hooked him up.

Wow, that really stinks big time. They should at the very least have warned him prior to the last day if the clothes restriction was going to be enforced differently on the last day. Now, I'm pulling for Mark Tadd ... I had a good encounter with him back in LA at South Bay Billiards when it was open ... good guy.

no shark move, that rule has been listed on the entry form for a year or two now
it states slacks and collard Shirt for the finals only

Exactly how I feel. If you are going to enforce this requirement, then you damn sure better inform a player (who has been wearing jeans all week) the night before. Especially when you (meaning the TD or his assistants) know he will be playing for the Hot Seat the next day. I blame them first and Mark second.

Mark Tadd doesn't have Sunday go to meeting clothes???? Sorry,I couldn't resist.

Yes, but I have it on good authority that the knees are worn out from praying.
Doug
( he should simply buy some shorts and then pray for them to get longer )

Now I lay me, down to sleep.
I pray the Lord, my soul to keep.
If I should die, before I wake.
Just bury me in jeans, for heaven's sake.

I had heard about him playing for a few years now, but didn't sound like he was hitting the balls anything like he used to. Seeing him doing so well here, makes people hopeful the old gunslinger Mark is back. It would be great to see him at the DCC woofin at all the champions like he used to. Many of the biggest names out there didn't want no part of Mark 15 years ago.

He will play tournments but will not gamble. That's alright, some is better then none.

This isn't right. It's puely a move and there is no reason for it. No tv etc.

He is a pretty large guy these days.

I meant to say in my post that he is not a large/small guy as far as I could tell from earlier videos I saw of him.

So, do you mean he is a big guy as in "tall", or "wide"? :D

Sucky situation

It is definitely a crappy situation. But in all fairness to Scotty, who is an excellent tournament director, rules are rules. Dress code rules were put out way in advance for all players. Why should one player be in dress clothes and the other gets to play in jeans? And should he get a time extension to make it to the match? Will there be an *exception* added to the rules?

Directly from the Reno Open flyer:
DRESS CODE: For both events: T-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes are acceptable for all tournament play except for the final tournament day. Hats can be worn on approval before matches. On the final day, only sponsor logos or designs can be worn on the back of shirts. Player must wear a collared shirt or blouse, dress pants or slacks and dress shoes. Belt must be worn if pants or slacks have belt loops for finals.

Of course, I hope Mark finds some pants and gets back up there to shoot his match. Bad situation for all involved. Go Mark GO!!
