Mark Wilson's New Book

Well, after coming back to pool in '03 I discovered I had a chicken wing. I think it's finally on the mend!! Seriously, this is a great book for any level of player. I've paid more for dvd's that had much, much, much less.

........... then go to the men's shop in town and buy a complete outfit for $20. Nice dress shirt, nice slacks or name brand jeans, pair of nice loafers, sox and underwear. Today your talking way over $100 for the same outfit. Johnnyt

JT,
WHAT A RIPOFF!!!! I'm not paying $100 for your 60 year old used clothes! OVERPRICED!!!!

This looks like an amazing book.
The one thing I don't understand is when it comes to "Pool Books"
they should be "Spiral Bound" so you can take it to the pool room with you and be able to lay the book wide open on the table/rail so you can easily access photos, drills, etc..... straight from the book to your practice table.
I could never understand why you don't see this, it just seems to me like common sense.

This isn't really something that I'd read while you're at the table.
It really is a textbook in every sense of the word and the reading is quite heavy and in-depth, so you really have to pick out things to work on a little at a time. If I tried to read it at the table, I'd just end up reading and re-reading each section for hours at a time.

I'd recommend sitting down and reading a section, taking notes and then bringing the notes to the table to work on. You are right about the drills though. It would be nice to maybe have a separate booklet of drills that can be easily brought to the table (I just photocopied everything).

I agree. Re: like the section for correcting head lift (pp42). There wasn't any good images to refer to but personally I have found I have longer practice sessions for this drill (less soreness etc) if I use a LESS preferred twisted wire 'bass note gauge' instead of the preferred 'narrow gauge'.... Less advil and less trip to the pharmacy. Nothing in life comes easy they say...

Great book Mark!

RH,
I think you are the first person to notice this groundbreaking technique :-)....as you can tell there are long periods of tedium during the writing; the authors should be excused for a bit of temporary insanity:-) (and don't tell Cathy....we just howled as we wrote that, and she was so horrified at our juvenile behavior that we told her it would not be included in the book....we lied:-)).

If he is only selling it from his own website, he might consider getting his website redone, it's very shoddy and unprofessional looking. Looks go a long way for credibility and conversions. If you read this Mark, hit me up, maybe we can make somekind of a deal, I design websites....

It should be a bonus question on the final exam (although it does seem a bit sexiest... maybe.. :-) ). In Medical/Dental school the hidden pearls of wisdom were always in the minutia of the details. You always have to look twice to enjoy benefit. Now that have my 'eunick' qualifications I'm ready to become subservient to the 'drill master'. I hope your statement about me being the first is SO NOT TRUE.... speaks to the reading comprehension pool is up against or maybe to the commitment to the cause.

Funny none the less,

Thanks Randy

Well it may not have been intended as a sales pitch, but Mark just got a sale anyway.
I'm curious to see if I can find things in my stance to iron out.
Gonna read it cover to cover and then maybe someday it'll make it a nice christmas gift
for someone in my league.

I understand what you are saying but I still believe that spiral bound is the way to go.
Even reading it at home and taking notes. I love a spiral bound book, it lays open flat on the desk/table. No hands required, just flip to the next page and it lays there wide open and easy to read.
Not to mention this makes things much easier when taking notes from the text. Just a personal preference I guess. Kind a like those big nice Road Atlases.

I just thought of something else.
What about offering an E-Book download?
No publishing cost unless someone wishes to print it out and have it spiral bound at Kinkos, Office Max, etc.................:groucho:

So at a price of $70 he is just "sharing" his material and not trying to turn a profit? Right .....;)

I've been avoiding this thread and decided to take a look and came across this. Not surprised Happens every time.

OK I'm in one of those moods few have seen here.

One, Up till now it was extremely difficult to even buy this book if you wanted it.

Second the HARD COVER OVERSIZE FORMAT I'm sure aint cheap to print to start with.

Third, I'll bet he's not making $20 a copy.

4, He's not the one promoting the book here. It's everyone else that has read the book or knows who this man is. Unfortunately you don't.

5. A little advise. You're not the type that should buy this book. You won't take the lesson so don't waste your money.

6. What's wrong with making a living? Huh? What do you do to get paid??

7. What investment have you made to make this game better for anybody much less the masses.

8. What time commitment have you made to improve your own game much less the game in general?

9. What are you committed to do in the future to support pool and billiards.

10. Do you even care about your game or even the advancement of the sport??

11.

With all do respect. Your post and those like them are disgusting IMO.

I'm done moderators: You won't hear this again for a long time. Ban me anyway. I'm tired.

Last words, (Sorry Moderators): IMO This book will either go viral and I hope it does, or it will be so sought after that the value will skyrocket. If only this 1000 are printed we're talking $1K per copy in 2020 on Ebay.

4. I do know who he is.

5. I don't take lessons? Why don't you ask Dennis hatch if I take lessons or not.

6. There's nothing wrong with making a living and mark SHOULD be making money off the book, I never said he shouldn't. Someone else implied that he was turning a profit and I said I doubt that.

7. I buy every single ppv by every streamer.

8. I practise almost every day. If your gonna be at derby we can play some sets and you'll see if I can play or not.

9. Anything I can within my abilities to help the sport in any way I reasonably can.

10. Absolutely.

It's pretty amazing that you can come on here and make all these wild assumptions about me when you don't know one thing about me.

What's your name btw? Or are you gonna hide behind a keyboard. My name is Randall Truscott.

Well good thing I bought the book then.

Mark Wilson was one of the first voices I ever heard in the pool world on the Rayes/Strickland Hong Kong match as the commentator. That match was probably in the top 3 things, along with George Fels' articles in BD (RIP) and Robert Byrnes books that got me hooked on pool. This was passed down to my son who at 14 loves playing as much as I do, which also caused me to have a few trips that I may never have gone on with him to Jr National tournaments.

I am going to buy his book ASAP, he can view my $70 as a tip for starting my 25+ year journey in pool.
