Matlock vs Keith

A monster TAR bar box double header two day special.

Day one Keith vs Dave

Day two SVB vs Bowman

I would miss work for this one.

No, I think Bowman should play Justin Bergman, and CJ should play David. Winner of ea match plays for the hill.

Bowman/Bergman/BarnBurner would be a good one to sweat. Race to 11 best two outta three sets, win by two in the third.

Be kinda Fun....

Ohh and this David can't play on the 9 foot. I remember when he beat Buddy Hall two sets. One on big table and one on the bar table. Additionally, wasn't he one the top American finishers in the IPT??

David can play anywhere. No doubt about it.

This is a great idea too.

The best players I watched play during the 70's and 80's on a barbox was,
Billy Johnson
Brian Ashley
Johnny Archer
Keith McCready
Buddy Hall
CJ Wiley
Paul Turner
Eugene Browning
Allen Hopkins
Scotty Townsend
Reid Pierce
David Matlock
Not in any special order, and I didn't play much up north or west of N.M.

Johnny Archer? 70-s 80's? Maybe very late 80's he didn't really hit his prime until the 90's, right?

I was referring to when I played. Johnny was playing great in 1989 and 90. The younger guns at that time was Hatch, Jimmy Wells and Shannon Dalton.

I think DH and SD would have been around 16-17 and Jimmy Wales would have been like 14. Shannon and Dennis could play on anything but Jimmy seemed to play a good deal better on the little table from what I saw.

I don't believe that Keith Richards is a very good pool player.

Maybe he won't even be alive in 2015. He looks like hes living on borrowed time.

He does like to play snooker from what I have heard but if they play I will unload on Matlock. I got Keith in the guitar wars.

Now if you are talking about playing pool with the Ether, the nightmare, the one called Grady on the big screen then there will have to be some serious consideration as both of them are purebred bad^ss freaks of nature.

I've seen Buddy play several times on a bar table and in my opinion he was the BEST with a small cue ball ! Bar none !!!

He did win a million bar table tournaments, all against strong fields! Seemed like he was first or second in every one he played in for 20 years! And yes, no one wanted to match up with him at those tournaments. He was there for one reason only, to win the tournament. Back then (the 70's and 80's) they usually paid $1,000 for first, not a bad payday then for two days work. Then Buddy had five days off to get to the next one. He hit all those tournaments back then, criss-crossing the Eastern United States. No one to this day knows all those highways and byways like Buddy. He can give you directions from anywhere to anywhere else just like that, naming every road you need to take!

Ok what most people don't know is Keith is the greatest combination shooter of all times playing 9 ball ! "jus sayin"

Ronnie was the best combination shooter (two and three balls!) playing One Pocket of all time! It was amazing how accurate he was.

I won't claim to be an expert because I am limited in my first hand knowledge to the early 90's to now. I have played Keith a couple of times in tournaments on a bb and it was disgusting. He was unbeatable for someone of my skill level even with a huge spot, it just wouldn't have mattered and I am not completely crippled. I have played many great players on a bb and he made it look easier than any of them, except maybe Larry Nevel. I may catch flack for that but if anyone here hasn't seen Larry on a bb, it is pretty sickening.

I can't say for sure that Keith is the best but I know (knew) a couple of guys on the best ever list and the name I heard regarding this subject was Keith. I never got to play him or see him in his hayday but he made me want to quit the game when he was "washed up" lol.

I beat Kanella in Dallas on a bar table at Times Square in 1971 and I also beat Matlock playing even on a bar table in Mountain Grove Mo. in 1982 ! I might have never beat him again but it's the truth !

And Cotton had the biggest shit eaten grin on his face ALL THE TIME! Ha Ha, BUSTED!

Hey there, Keith, I have to say your story has been verified to me many times!

I ran around on the road (betting high) with several of the players that was around LA Keith back in those days. Weldon Rogers and Omaha John were both champions on the "BarBox" and agreed that Keith was unbeatable on the bar table.....of course there were many players that had that "high speed," however, Keith seemed to always be in "Dead Heat" on the "Bar Rag".

I'm not taking anything away from David Matlock, he was a killer on the "small track"......he ran an "8 Pack" on me for the cash, and I managed to come back and win, but would not want to play him "day in and day out" for a living...that's for sure!

John Shuput was one great player, but so damn slow he would wear you out just watching him run a rack. :p
I stayed with him in Omaha and he steered me to some good spots. I won the money but got his car (a little Triumph) stuck in a snow drift! True story. :)

In match play I've beaten 5 of the above, one got lucky and another flat Beat me, the rest we just didn't ever play....

I've gambled with Billy, Keith, Allen, Johnny and Scotty. I haven't done so well against that crew. In fact I may be 0-5! Oh well....

"I'm Pretty sure Tracy Joe Salazar BEAT EM ALL, ...
In HIS PRIME,
He was A BAR TABLE MONSTER,

Until Keith gave him the cure! Keith spotted all the Mexican champions the eight ball on a bar table and robbed every one of them. I watched it with my own eyes (and my wallet :)). The eight ball meant nothing the way Keith played. His first nickname in L.A. was given him by the great Mario. He called Keith "El Diablo," the Devil!
