Man we had a great vacation planned out if he won-on his nickel, now I have to cancel the plans.:(

Oh well he will live to fight day. Like tomarrow.:)

. . . then 2 Mexican champions came through vegas in 92 or 93 and robbed everybody here in Vegas(almost), It was the first time in years I saw anyone come to Vegas and stay 2 weeks and beat alot of local players and leave winners, Vegas was a trap for road men back then, i dont know about now. I watched them(they played 8 ball real good) and said yeah I could play that game, so I played a little, beat a guy who could have easyle gave me the 6 playing 9ball, i retired from pool after that, but remembered that I could play a little 8ball, so now I do and like it, funny how that works.

No doubt. In my neck of the woods (SF Bay Area), they love to play 8-ball last pocket. I have a tough time with them. Just a totally different concept. A nice blend of 8-ball offense and the defense makings and banking musts of 1-pocket.

We were going to the PI for 2 weeks, we were going to fly 1st class, eat pineapples, mangos, drink coke out of glass bottles and play pool. But that plan changed he isnt in a good mood I just hung up the phone right now, he is comming back to my house, he sounds sleepy, man he got close in a BIG tournment, he feels "Like a dog with no home" what ever that means. Jay is one hell of a guy, on the square I really wanted to see him win a big one.

At least he went down from a bad beat and not from bad play on his part. Don't know if it helps, but he had a bunch of AZ people rooting for him.

I don't know what the odds are on King Kong against Pocket Aces, but it seems as though whenever I have a pair someone else does as well. Kinda strange.

Happened to me yesterday SNG. First hand dealt AA to me. KK to Villain. He goes all in. I call. K comes on the flop. Im done on the first hand dealt.

I went to the poker room today and played in a Hold Em tournament. I even brought a bag of small baby carrots, in case there were any deserving Donkeys at my table.

I limped in with A,Q suited and the button raised to $1,000 and I called. The flop was 4,7,10 rainbow and I checked. The donkey went all in and I called with my A,Q. He had A,9. The last card was a 9 and I was illuminated. I HEE HAWed twice and left the table.

Okay, so thats what happened, K's against A's. The long story is I sat down in seat two, and got the big blind first hand. I lost 2,200 my first two hands, without seeing a flop. The guy on my left was raising every other hand.

I knew I had to wait for a good hand. And I did, two full rounds until I picked up K's on the button. I had 12,500 left. The guy under the gun raised to 2,500 and everyone folded to me. I thought about the correct raise and decided to push all in. I really didn't care if he folded a hand like A,Q. I would be glad to grab the 5,000 that was out there.
But he insta called me, and flipped over A's. Bye bye Jay! I finished about 410th, 30 spots our of the money. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, and another tournament. :)

dont feel too sorry for jay, he beat me playing 8 ball tonight, 7-0 7-4or5, I had him beat the second set and let him off, i was ice cold the first set, I didnt hit a ball and we started, i knew that was at least a 4 game spot and i'm the weaker player. I was in horrible pain, at 5-0 i popped a couple pills and started to feel better, when we started the second set I chewed up a 2 pain pills and 1 muscle relaxor so they would work faster, I was almost pain free and could have went up 5-2 I think, I cant remember all I know was I was playing better than Jay-jay wont stall on me, if he ever did I wouldnt give him action, we had a mid size bet-enough to make it count, were friends and the bet will never effect our relationship but I cant play for free, I get odds on the $$$ 6:5 he still has the best of it, but damn it I had him, and I let him back in i did catch one bad roll, the pain started up again,

And thats what scares me, i took enough drugs to put a "Clean " person in a 12 coma and for me it helped for 20 minutes, I couldnt take any more, sitting here typing this hurts, i should be in bed on my laptop but i'm sick of that bed.

I let him off, sure he is a better player, but I have mental lapses in concentration that loses me games, I dont get hot and throw things I stay cool, but the lapses in concentration have hurt me for years, over all i'm still a winning player because when I was broke I picked my spots carefully, now in the past year i'm a losing player, i'm taking hard games, i cover my loses with rail bets. But I want to win. John Morton said "You just have to find a way to win"; to me in 90 or 91, I had that for a while. I'm not nervious about the $$$, our bet is so small that if that made me nervious I'd really be pissed. But I out played him for long enough he had to dig his way out, one bad roll and a funny hit helped but still I got weak, my concentration was fading in and out. The pain came back and thats a distraction-it wasnt bad enough to cost the set, right now I couldnt play we finished 45 minutes ago.

I cant rely on drugs to play and wont, but assuming I feel fine, I have to figure out a way to keep the focus, i have read all the books, on sports phsycology and spelling books too ;) . Seriously WTF do I need to do, I have a quite mind no noise, I dont get the "what if's" I dont feel pressure, i dont really look at the score, I dont play to lose for sympathy(I knew I guy who loved to lose so he could feel sorry for him self) the amount of the bet dosent matter, if I beat him 300 sets in a row bragging about it isnt important. I'm not a ego player who says " oh yeah I robbed him" i might joke about that. but that dosent distract me. I have played alot of years and have found that groove of winning when I had my chance at a high % but more often than not I lose when I have my chance. I just cant find the solution, words are the tool that will convey the solution into my game, but I have to find the root of the problem. I'm not embarassed to lose.

I'm not suppost to beat Jay all the time(maybe 38 out of 100 sets  ) but I should beat him when I put myself into the spot to win tonight by playing good-I just cant hold that gear(and playing someone like Jay thats suicide), I didnt get lucky to get in the winning spot, I out played him the 2nd set and set myself up to win, I didnt let up. I played better than he did until it mattered, then I didnt(this is the root question, I wasnt playing attention to anything but the balls). Again I didnt feel any pressure and when I do I still respond the same way or play better. I have played for $$$ over 2,000 times so it aint new to me. I'm not mad I lost I dont like it, but I sure as hell would like to "Find a way to win" like RudeDog told me years ago, I can sometimes but not often enough.

All the practice in the world, having a perfect stroke, solid fundementals means shit if you cant use them when you need to, I still hit the ball fine but something aint working.

any ideas???

thanks

and yes I'm gonna play him again. I might play better than some people but I cant find a way to win, this whole post is about winning not who plays better, who wins better is what counts, and thats something over looked, people say "SVB plays better" or "Archer plays better" when was the last time you heard "------ Wins better"?. Look at the Morra/Bergman match Bregman wins better, I'm knot knocking Morra he is my friend and I have alot of respect for him, i'm just using a recent example. He plays great but not when it counted, i feel he lost for a differnt reason than I did, thats what bothers me I know why he lost I asked him it was because of ******* and he said yeah, I know why I been in that spot. of course I was told by someone here "I'm a recreational B player and was wrong on so many levels" but Morra said I was right, so much for me being a recoretional B player-what ever that means...

All the practice means shit if you cant win better, who teaches winning? other than the inner game of tennis etc, i'm done with books. Seriously who teaches winning, not shot selection or pendulem stroke but what counts HOW TO WIN!!!! the rest is bullshit when you dont win when yyou should, SVB playes 95% of the patterns in 10B I do because I have played over 20 years, One Pocket is a different thng.

I dont lose everytime I play but I dont win when I should too often. I dont expect to beat Jay in the long run-he plays better but man to lose when it was there puzzles me, i'm not upset, this is along post because i'm looking for answeres I never saw before.

Thats my biggest fear Jay when I tell people Im going to play a tourney is when you have a hand you have to play like QQ,KK,or AA and you go up against another pair bigger or smaller and get beat.I analyze my play and as long as I played well what else can I do,just get your money in with the best of it and hope it all holds up.One time I had AA,another guy had KK and another had QQ,we all put our money in preflop,a King came and that was that, roll with the punches I guess and get back up if you get knocked out. ;)

Yep, we went at it again last night. Two sets of Eight Ball. Eric is using me to get in stroke. He now has a sparring partner (me) who plays a little better than him, which is something I recommend to players who want to improve.

For the first time, I am feeling some pressure playing Eric. He is DEFINITELY getting back in stroke. The first few times we played, I felt pretty comfortable and didn't feel like I could lose. Now, I CAN LOSE if I'm not careful and don't get out when I'm supposed to. Eric wins his share of games and gets out pretty good for the most part now.

He pretty much told the story right here. The first set he didn't show up and just handed it to me. Shades of the old Eric. The second set he had me on the ropes, and was outplaying me. I was down 3-1 and he had a shot to make it 4-1 and had a nasty scratch in the side. So it was 3-2. Then at 5-3 Eric, he had a good shot to get to the hill at 6-3, and once again made one critical error. So now it's 5-4 and he appeared disheartened, and did not play quite as well. I won the last three games for a 7-5 win.

Eric has shown me that he has game. If he ever gets his back situation handled I suspect he will play a lot better than people think. Right now, he can only play for a limited time. I feel bad for him, but he's right about one thing. I am trying to beat him every time we play. And I KNOW how badly he wants to beat me! :)

Don't be fooled by his poor performance at DCC in the Ring game. He was in terrible pain and should not have played. Mark Tadd was willing to fill in for him. But he promised people he would play, so he did. I tried to talk him out of it, because I knew he was in no shape to play pool. Hell, he could hardly stand up. That night is no indication of how he plays. Eric is a low level 'B' player right now, and seems to be improving each time I play him.

Wish I had stayed long enough to say hello to Jay and wish him well in the WSOP. My wife and I really appreciated the tour of your estate, it's truly spectacular. For your AZ friends whom you have invited to visit you in Las Vegas, they are really missing a bet if they don't take advantage of your hospitality; heck, just seeing all those Szams and Bushkas was worth the drive!:D
